Yeah, my appologies for the spelling. I should have double-checked, it didn't look right to me when I wrote it.

I flew into Charlotte last Wednesday Sept 27 and out again on Oct 3, but except for the airport I spent all my time in SC. An old highschool buddy was getting married in Columbia, but anything's a good excuse for a bit of touring around . I put almost 900 miles on my rental car and had a great time. That was my first visit to your part of the world, but will probably not be my last.

Unfortunately I only drove through Greenville on my way to the BMW plant after driving west along the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway. Way too much to see and never enough time!

In case you're looking for another 911 I saw one for sale at a little 'used car lot' (they had a total of 4 cars) on the 11 just west of the intersection with the 178. It was a mid-year, and quite ratty with poorly bonded-on carrera flares, but maybe it's cheap; there was no price on it nor anyone around to ask.

Yeah, Bloody Ban. "The first casualty when war comes is truth": it would seem that a lot of the stories about him were gross exagerations, more likely battle rallys. A Patriot battle cry was "Tarleton's Quarter", synonymous with "No Quarter". I don't think either side has a corner on brutality in any war.

You might check it out more. Jane Standen,widow of "The great Standini" Tony Standen, maiden name Tarleton. Tony & I were friends through the Porsche connection. He & Jane spent time here before he died. Jane & Her cousin Alexandria, Alex, were also here during their travels. Both of them chuckled when I speculated that they may qualify for Daughters of the American Revolution membership. Ol' Bloody definitely has descendants...you might check the Sothoby's site. I read that other decendants of Tarelton were going to auction off the captured American battle flags he had. Alas, Jane & Alex not close enough relatives to share in the loot. The flags can be seen under his foot in the portrait.

Banastre did have 5 siblings, so I assume Jane is a decendant of one of those? The battle flags were sold by "Captain Christopher Tarleton Fagan,...who is Ban Tarleton's 4-x-great nephew". He said they had become too expensive to insure. They went for $17.4 million! That would have been nice to share in.

That's funny about the Daughters of the American Revolution . I wonder what they would say to that application.

Here's one more photo from Cowpens. This is taken from the initial British Cavalry position looking towards the Patriot lines. The first Patriot line would have probably been a few yards behind the copse of trees in the center of the photo stretching from the right end of the copse to the left and across the Broad River Road, also visible. The Patriot Cavalry would have swooped in from the right causing havoc amongst the British.

Just back from a trip to USA to catch up with my son who is on Rotary Exchange in Rome NY. He is staying in the small town of Westernville just north of Rome and they had their annual fair when we were there. William Floyd (one of the guys who signed the Declaration of Independance) lived there.



Also visited DC and went to the Air and Space Museum. Love this first shot - the history in just these three planes - not to mention all the others just out of shot.
