I'll resort to working on Big Brothers VF750F.
Every piece on this thing is a work of art, art left 25 years with no TLC.
She's held up well but really needs all hydraulics rebuilt, a full tune, fresh pure gas and a sunny day to make glorious noise again.
I'm the lucky monkey to make that happen.

Back Caliper after exxxxxxxxtended sitting
It took the grease gun in the bleeder valve and capping the feed line trick to push the pistons out of every thing. 140 PSI of air pressure wouldn't budge em except the rear master cylinder. I managed to free it up enough it popped itself out on disassembly. Splendid!

Ah, the Honda Interceptor !! I rode one in 1984 around Irvine. Didn't have my learner's permit yet. I would love a red white and blue one. Still remember the tach needle

This bike brings back great memories, I had bought a brand new CB900F in 1981, Big brother was way outgunned on his 1976 CB360T so he went to the local Honda outlet and looked at the '83 CB1100F and the Interceptor. only $100 separated them in price. He sat on the 1100 and liked it a lot, sat on the Interceptor and fell in love- he said it was like it was designed for him.
We did lots and lots of short to long rides on those 2 steeds for the next 5-6 years.
I sold my 900F after not riding it for a couple years- my Son had been born, priorities changed (duh) and I did not want my bike to just sit and sit. It had 26K on it and I let it go in 1994. It still looked and ran like new.
Regretted that decision a few times over the years.

I still remember how different my 900 was compared to his 750.
On paper the 900 should have had the advantage HP to weight wise, in the real world I out weighed him by 20-25 lbs physically, but the Interceptor was about the same amount heavier so we were very well matched. The handling was superior on the Interceptor.
I loved the sounds both bikes made winding up and down through the gears and I'm very excited to hear his bike run again!

Again I'm honored he trusts me with his favorite motorbike and I feel close to him when I'm working on it or just looking at it.
I'm keeping him up to date on progress and asking questions about suspension settings, a couple small quirks the bike has and he's enjoying the journey to bring it back to life.
With CV I've been distancing myself from him since hes VERY at risk with breathing and physical strength issues.

This is something we both have passions for and can still get a kick out of even if only through discussions, photos and some day soon video/audio of it making beautiful noise again.
The only thing he's asked is to not put a "cow catcher" fairing on it... I assured him there is no way I'd even consider it!
Hydraulic brakes and clutch are all now rebuilt and working like butta.
(near as I can tell without actually riding it yet)

Great pictures Skip. Reminds me of the rides my brother and I would take back in the late '70's. He on his Ducati 860 GT and me on my '80 750F. We made numerous trips up to the Rock Store on the weekends. Never did any camping though. I had a similar fairing on my F too.

More progress on the Interceptor- I'd go broke if I was turning wrenches for a living

The 16 valves have all been set, only 2 were at the factory clearance of .005in\ .12M
The other were a mix of too tight/too loose. It may just wear that way, but I always thought valves almost always get looser with wear.
Then again the last Honda shop maniac, er mechanic may not pay as close attention to detail as I do.

Checking, checking- motor manual sez use 2 feeler gauges when setting valves actuated by the same cam. So I did... takes me anywhere from 1 to 4 attempts to get em just right.
One skill I learned when I was 18 and owned a 67 VW bug- how to set valves. I did that a lot!!

Got out for a ride around the local airport, 7.2 miles RT...48 degrees, threatening skies and windy.
Wear rain jacket, toss rain pants in rucksack.
Check.

Found the rain, pulled on rain pants- that made it stop raining within 10 minutes

Made more headway on the Interceptor yesterday too.

Reattached left side cover, flushed out the carbs with pure fuel 3 times (they all had very amber bad smelling fluid formerly known as gasoline), valve covers cleaned and torqued, radiators reattached and plumbed.
She needs oil, some fresh gas pumped through the fuel pump, top up with antifreeze and see what kind of mechanical music it emits.

Thanks! Spring is starting in the valley! The green will fill the valley first, and work it's way up the sides of the mountains. These are real colors on the way to work in the with the heat on and the sunroof open. The point and shoot camera is old, and is not set to oversaturate the scene, like some filters do. The colors the sun cast in the morning are incredible.
