Quote:
When have you visited me and had dinner or spent some time getting to know me? You know nothing of my past ( no one on this board does, for that mater ). The suicides I've been touched by were performed by cowards. People that chose NOT to deal with life's adversities and took the easy way out. That's the way most suicides are. The one's left behind are racked with guilt and feelings of missed opportunities or signs. And you're not the lone beacon of pain when it comes to loss of family to long, miserable deaths. I have 6 under my belt (seems almost morbid to say it that way). None of them even hinted at checking out early. Their strength throughout its course is a lesson I learned and carry with me. Oh, another thing, I work in diagnostic imaging and see brain tumors and other illnesses every single day. Come spend a week with me and then tell me how smooth my life is. I believe you, sir, are the one enjoying a smooth life. One where you can simply push the off button when things get tough. Must be nice. I dislike getting involved in heated discussions here because so much can be lost in communication. I would like to meet you Milt, and share what life has dealt. There's room for discussion with me as well.

Don, fair enough. I think we both have the "experience" to qualify our opinons. Yours is yours, mne is mine. We can take it from there and be friendly.
Your post just rubbed me wrong, that's all. And, after all, this is OT where we tend to be a little more abrasive. (Well, not me, I'm abrasive all over. )Your "count" exceeds mine enven thaoughI remembered another one; my father-in-law who simply stopped eating shortly after he was placed in a "home." Tough ol' Marine colonel he was. I guess that's suicide. But, you're right about one thing, it's very selfish if it isn't done neatly and HST didn't do it neatly. Here's more of HST on imagining ending his life on a winding mountain road halfway between Louisville and Eglin Air Force Base in Florida: "My concept of death for a long time was to come down that mountain road at a hundred and twenty and just keep going straight right there, burst out through the barrier and hang out above all that … and there I'd be sitting in the front seat, stark naked, with a case of whiskey next to me, and a case of dynamite in the trunk … honking the horn, and the lights on, and just sit there in space for an instant, a human bomb, and fall down into that mess of steel mills. It'd be a tremendous goddamn explosion. No pain. No one would get hurt. I'm pretty sure, unless they've changed the highway, that launching place is still there. As soon as I get home, I ought to take the drive just to check it out." |

[I]One of his last interviews.........talks about us being the Nazi's now because of Iraq.[I]
http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=05/02/23/164218 [I]Doonsebury comic strip character Uncle Duke was inspired/based on Hunter S. Tompson[I] http://www.wvu.edu/~journal2/west/docs/link_thompson.htm Hunter S. Thompson served as the inspiration for the character "Uncle Duke" in the comic strip Doonesbury. Thompson has complained vehemently about Trudeau's profiting on his image. http://www.doonesbury.com/strip/faqs/ The late Hunter S. Thompson was indeed the initial inspiration for Doonesbury's Uncle Duke, who first appeared in the strip in this July 1974 series. Their paths diverged as Duke took on a life of his own, and over the decades his ever-evolving career has differed dramatically from that of HST. I saw part of this movie late last night - wild stuff, will have to rent it sometime. http://www.stairwell.com/doc/exam/fearand.html ....................somebody remembered that Terry Gilliam could direct a movie. His version of [B]Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas[B] stars Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro. |

I used to follow Doonesbury fairly closely back in the day. Duke was one of my favorite characters and since the departure of HST, I've been reading the strip again in the daily fish wrap.
Upon learning of HST's exit, Duke's head blew up. Not the first time that's happened. Won't be the last. I reckon there's some people and a few editors have their panties in a bunch over that. What say you? I thought it was fine and exactly what I expected. And any thoughts on what Duke's going to "morph" into on Friday? My Duke/HST references are rusty. I am glad to see Honey is still around.
