That was pretty good, not great. Maybe an 8/10. Still better than everything else, though.

I'm disappointed that they changed the opening theme and credits. The "foreshadowing" clips showing what the episode was about during the theme song was one of the small touches that indicated the crew was really thinking about the show, that it was a labor of love. Too bad that's gone. But still, what a great show.

I thought it was excellent - 9.5/10. Remarkable how "stressed" this show can make me...

I'd give it a 9/10 myself. And I'm hoping they will bring back the foreshadowing stuff in the beginning credits. I think that's a throwback to the original series -- they did a 'tonight on Battlestar Galactica' before every episode.

Some random thoughts...

So what are your theories of the 'ambush' on Kobol? Was it Cylons mowing them down? Was it humans? Was it just an automated defence system?

It really set the stage for things to come... IMHO.

Once that funky cyclon ship hit Gallactica and there was no explosion, I was thinking -- um, er, ya better check the hangar bay. Seeing all those red eyes in the end was freaky!

I liked Starbuck's comments when her ship was lifted: "That b*&ch stole my ride." That's what you get when you park your spaceship on the bad side of town and start arguing with a pregnant cylon...

Can't wait till next Friday!

I KNOW!!! I almost yelled the same at my wife! I definitely get into the show...

The ambush was weird... They never gave a clue who was shooting at them... I'm betting it wasn't just the "toaster" cylons... Mayber we'll find out who the next "human" cylon(s) is/are through this???

I assumed the ambush was the old-model cylons, just because the gunfire sound was the same as in previous scenes when the toaster models fired. At least that's what it sounded like to me. Who knows.

Whoever suggested that Gaeda is a cylon - I'm starting to like that theory.

Boltar and the hot blonde (#6) could only have a baby together (she made this very clear to him that it is their baby) if she is real (cylon) and he is real (human).

This means that a sample of his sperm or same sample they could of cloned him from is on a mothership somewhere with a #6 female serving as an incubator - perhaps the very same number 6 which transmits images into his head. Remember something sets off the sleeper Cyclons and gives them instructions from afar.

Stargate, Atlantis, BSG and soon Firefly............somebody likes us Sci-Fi geeks.

Funny, I was wondering about the ambush too.. I thought for a moment it was that dumb LT firing at his own guys !! But I guess not...

Very cool that we now have 3 simultaneous stories - Kobol, Caprica and Space... And we got to see some space firefights, it had been a while...

I am also surprised the "***** stole the ride" ! I thought they were gonna stick together and that this cylon model was somewhat on the Humans's side (a bit at least)....

As I am going to be out of town this Thursday - Saturday, I of course had to Season Pass BSG on Tivo, so I could get this Friday's episode. While searching, I did stumble upon the fact that starting at 6 am this Friday, they will be running the Pilot episode of the original series. While it was campy, since it hasn't been too long since I saw the Pilot for the new series, it should be enjoyable to compare the two...

What makes BSG and Stargate so entertaining are two things:

1. Good ensemble casts
2. Good writing.

Additionally, Stargate does not take itself too seriously which is refreshing in this genre.

I was a big Buffy/Angel fan (mmmmEmma Caulfield...). I see the same quality of writing in BSG.

One thing that I have been pondering about BSG...

If KOBOL is the 'Birthplace of Mankind', what is Earth?

Earth is one of the colonies, the 12th or something, the "lost" colony.... They go over that in the original episode last season... when they left kobol they ended up in the known systems (caprica etc..) except for one group who was rumored to have found earth...

Smart idea, that connection between earth and the kobol "greek" gods !!

Don't know, I think it was mentioned in the first 2h pilot when Adama says they gotta find earth, the lost colony... Except nobody knows where it is ;-)

On the + side, once they find earth they'll be OK because we speak english too, and we have incredibly advanced weapons ;-)
(personally I 'd let number 6 colonize me anytime)

Did anyone go to the movie theater in the late 1970's/early 1980 to see the BG movie based on the TV series? I did.

They finally get to Earth - in the ending moments of the film they see the big blue ball called Earth, they look at each other (Apollo and Starbuck) and the camera fades to black and the film credits roll.

The 13th Colony............hey 13 Stars and Stripes, and the original 13 colonies of the USA.

There was a short lived series called Gallactica 1980, where the Galactica actually finds earth. Even cheezier than the Battlestar series, complete with flying motorcycles and all!

I'm hoping it will come out on DVD soon, so my (original series) collection will be complete.

I already have the new BSG mini-series on DVD, now I await the arrival of the first season on disc!

Z- It's already available in the UK, (first season dvd) but without any extras or goodies - supposed to release the official US version later this year. I'll be right behind you in line..

Thoughts on tonight's episode?

On the one hand it seems that the Cylons see their future as a hybrid human/Cylon species. On the other hand, the "toasters" seem to kill humans when given the chance.

I think Baltar will be rescued, and try to finish what Sharon attempted...

They are going to have to start making more explosive rounds - or we get to see them resort to roadside bombs. Hey I didn't write religion into the show, I only watch the show.

There is a far less "don't trust technolgy" message being played that they could make- I mean a virus tuning off the power/lights......ooooooooooh so scary. I bet their best weapons get pretty primitive and basic.
