This show continues to intrigue....although this week's episode was somewhat predictable.

Interesting bits:

1. Cyclons are monotheists and humans are polytheists. They hinted at that in previous episodes...but still the cylons seem to know quite a bit about the religion of the humans even though they protest it as a "false" religion. Obviously the writers are ripping a few items from the headlines.

A very interesting differentiation that I picked up too. Sharon #2's reference to the 'One true God' sounded very Judeo-Christian.

2. The actor that plays Baltar plays a great wacko. His interactions wit the doctor were very amusing.

His eyes - that look. He's done that a few times - but when he looked at the doctor when the dr. mumbled something about being crazy - well, if looks could kill...

3. What I think makes the show interesting is the whole plotline hints at a vast back-story history, which is only gradually being filled in.

That's it. Just some observations.

The 'start a series in the middle of the timeline' has been very effectively done in this show.

Some other observations:
The map room - very brilliant, extremely clever. Using the constellations/zodiac to represent the 12 tribes. As Starbuck said, "When the members of the 13th tribe looked upon the heavens, they saw their brothers from the other 12 tribes." I think it was cool that it was Starbuck who made the connection that they were 'standing on earth.' The stonehedge type monuments was also a great idea. I suspect the 'map room' was just an illusion, kinda like a planetarium, of earth, and not really earth.

All this almost makes me want to believe the Galactica storyline is real...

And next week, Zena makes an appearance. (She's that blond reporter sticking her nose in where it doesn't belong...)

Truly a refreshing show.

My personal preference:

I do not think they will find Earth until the very end of the series, and even then the question of what state earth is in will remain open ended.

Z-Man, the quote that you cite is interesting...interesting because it might actually be a hole in the plot.

1 It is recounting what happens to the 13th tribe once they found earth...but being nobody (before this episode) knows where earth is, how would they know what the hell they saw? They are the "lost tribe" after all so how was this communicated back to the colonies to wind up in "The book".

2.And why would the colonial flags represent constellations as seen from Earth when clearly they would not be seen the same from anywhere else?

I really enjoyed the bit where Number Six was messing with Baltar's head. Very funny.

I also find the new Sharon to be interesting. She seems to be more in control of herself than the old one. The fact that she decided not to kill Adama means that she is really different, or is waiting for an opportunity with greater effect. The whole Sharon/Helo/Chief situation is going to be fun to watch unfold. It seems that all of the Sharon's are programmed to latch on to some guy...

1967 R50/2: Good points about how could they know about the contellations if the lost tribe was indeed lost and never heard of again?

My opinions on that:
1. The gods may have brought back this information to Kobol, and they locked this into the 'map room' on the tomb.

2. The thirteen tribes always identified themselves via the signs of the zodiac - and when the 13th tribe landed on earth, they made the contellations 'fit' to they could 'see' the other tribes up in the sky.

Still doesn't answer how the map was brought back to Kobol -- hmmm - I wonder if mabe the cylons have something to do with that....

Definately a show that has some many levels - really makes you think about stuff...

I liked Number 6 in a pony tail messing with Baltar, that was awesome ! She looks even better that way ;-)

And I agree with Skidup, I think the Cylons want Galactica to find earth and just put enough pressure on the fleet to egg them on. They could have wiped them out several times already... They want to get ALL humans !

I just bought season 1 on DVD, (Uk version on sale in the US) I am however not impressed with the quality of encoding. It looks worse than what I got on the Tivo !

It looks great on my version. Are you using an HDTV? I know that not all DVDs play well with HDTVs.

Yup, you hit it on the head. Brand new HDTV, and practically everything I own looks like crap on it ;-) Not my best purchase... I've got an upconverting DVD on order though, and will soon switch provider to get HD source as well !!

I don't think she answered him. I think Adama said "I want you dead" or something like that after she said that.

However, that means she knew Sharon #1 was indeed killed (even though she acted surprised when she found out on Kobol). Adama asked Sharon #1 "Why" in the morque, which implies that Sharon #1's thoughts were still active and then they were transferred somehow to Sharon #2.

So Sharon #2 is up to something...

My wife and I play a drinking game when we watch. It's very simple. Take a drink every time someone says frack. We're not doing shots. We just take a drink from a glass of wine. Many episodes we don't even get to a second glass, but we still have fun playing.

The cables made a HUGE difference on my system. IIRC, I might have paid like $150 each for the component cables which go between the the HD TiVo to the HDTV and the DVD to the HDTV. The difference was astonishing.

I will not claim to have thought this up, but it is an interesting notion:

Baltar is a cylon ...but doesn't know it.

1. He does not have a chip in his head...yet he is somehow is getting information from the cylons. We know the cylons are at least somewhat interconnected. How would this ability manifest itself if you didn't know you had it? As a hallucination?

2. #6 keeps going on about how they will have a child. From the "Farm" episode we know how extraordinary it would be for cylons to have children and how much they want them. So her obsession makes sense in this con text.

3. Do we know that he has ever taken his own cylon test?

It is a possibility.

I thought of this a while back, still festers in my head.

The real Baltar died when his home was destroyed by the nuke blast (glass blasted out with quite some force). His memories were put into a cylon-like clone; by some process I have not figured out.

But hey, if they can make someting as complex as a cylon, why not something as simple as a clone?

Possibly. I was thinking more like the original Baltar was a cylon and so is the current one.

Baltar a cylon? I think not!

The major premise of his character is the fact that he 'sold out' the human race by letting a cylon (Number 6) into a sensitive computer area.

Also: in the original series, Baltar was the only human the cylons tolerated.

So, I really don't think the 'new' Baltar is a cylon.
