that book is the only one I have ever seen that talks all about bs procedures, bs'ing the paperwork, how they hustle the insurance co's, etc. Again it's about keeping an open mind.

I think the managing the mind concept may have been the the start to all of this. I remember going through a period were I pre and re thought every move, every word I spoke, and it has been down hill slowly since then. But If I could get back to that state of mind, having control that is, I would do it.

Let me preface my response to Mul with the following:
1. I am a Christian, a Lutheran, and go to church every week. Even a member of our church council.
2. I am a Conservative and vote Republican.
3. I believe that prayer can solve problems.

I went to Lenten service last night and prayed for God to strike Mul mute and paralyze his fingers. Let's hope my prayers are answered.

For the rest of you guys on this thread and the previous thread we had on depression, you have grapefruit size balls to come forward and talk. In the end I think it makes you a better man than me. I don't have an answer to your problems, but I can't help but hope that talking it out with all of us helps in some small way.

For you Mul, all I can do is just keep praying.

You guys all need to get the hell over yourselves. Depression is caused by low self esteem and self esteem is right in front of you for the taking - it's a decision. All of you sound like a bunch of gawdam women sittin around moaning about how the world mistreats you. Jeez.....

Thanks to all who are posting and thanks to those who have said 'it takes balls'. Well, it is easier to 'talk' to you guys, ask for advice, and even feel comforted here than to talk to my wife or whomever. I have gone from a huge circle of 'friends' to no one. You guys represent (to some extent) a cross section of my old mind, the voices I used to hear. Even just trying to put ideas/emotions/state of mind in to words that convey the message has helped me. I really do feel like a ******* sometimes, like I just need something to blame my 'mood' on. I didn't think that there were that many who know what it is like to be here, who understand that this isn't just a bad day/week. I wish it were just a bad mood, some sunshine and fresh air would help then. But right now I can't even enjoy those simple things.

Mark, I really wish it were that easy. I've endured a lot in my life, some really trying times. I used to think of myself as a really strong person/character, but this has really brought me down to a whole new world. My math doesn't work here.

self-righteous, passive-aggression..not the first time we've ever heard it, won't be the last. how you deserve the stones to sit in judgment of what transpired in my life after a decade of stressful, on-demand flying at all hours of the day and night in primarily life or death air ambo missions around the world with several in-flight 'verrrrrry close calls' that eventually extracted their psychological toll on me (ptsd), simply beats my queen. i find your position that it's because i'm somehow lacking in my own christian faith to be offensiveness of the highest degree of disrepect. if this is 'your' christianity..sell it to somebody else. i'm finding your own 'conversion' testimony to be somewhat less than inspiring. your attitude is about as far removed from the christian ideal as it gets imho.

One of the most insidious aspects of depression is that it is a bona fide and treatable disease (much like diabetes or athletes foot) and yet it FEELS like a character flaw to the person afflicted. Ask me how I know.

Once successfully treated I looked back and realized there was actually nothing wrong with "me"...any more than there is something wrong with "me" when I have the flu. I was able to look back and say, "Hey, I'm actually a pretty cool guy who unfortunately got hit with a nasty-assed illness."

And I am 100% certain you will have the same experience.

thanks. very helpful..but i'm sure that really wasn't your intent..was it, mark? surely you can be more sarcastic than that. for every group of truly genuine men in the world, there will always be those, quick to judge, point the finger and who have zero grasp of the concept of empathy..little self-awareness, but quite obvious to those who know them.

Guys,
Sorry you feel bad but I did too. I went through years of depression and abused the hell out Jack Daniels. I've gone through a lot of other crap that is just life's stuff - everyone has it. Point is, I realized that the grail was right in front of me and it was mine for the taking.

It doesn't take balls to admit you have a problem. It takes balls to take steps to fix the problem.

Didn't work...He not only ignored your voodoo prayers (never pray for someones harm), but he struck you ignorant as well (or was that preexisting)?...Maybe you should have prayed for those with depression seeking help?...Did you think about that, Kurt?

Fishing something good out of your last post: "prayer helps."

Well. maybe for you. I know kids who inherited mental disorders from their parents. I have a child with BP. You really don't know what you are talking about.

Ryan, again, I feel bad for anyone in pain, but you can sit around and wallow in it or you can stand up, be a man and get over it. We've all had way too many years of Katy ****** Couric and Matt dickhead Laur and the likes of that View show who's only concern is to ascertain "how we feel". What a bunch of babble crap. It only matters that you feel bad for a while, and then you move on.

Dude,
I know exactly what I'm talking about. This thread is about depression, not BP. Please keep up.

I work for a psychiatrist in Houston. Dr Lisa Routh is respected in the treatment of depression and anxiety in both adults and children. She has books on the subject and these are not difficult to find on Amazon. I run the nuclear medicine aspect of her practice. She tends to look to lifestyle changes to defeat depression but will prescribe meds when neccessary. I was heisitant to post this as it may appear as a solicitation for business. It is not. I just wanted the option available for those who may want more info. The business website is brainwavesnic.com. This thread was a fascinating train wreck of conflicting opinions. Seek professional help when possible. Andrea Yates tried Mul's approach to depression and she ended up harming those children that she truly did love. Best of luck to all.
I respect muls right to an opinion, however to bludgeon others with it will win no converts.

It worked for me and 1,000s of others...Has anyone else offered a solution with such a track record here?

Sorry man, but unless they put what you're selling in a pill I've got no interest.

So all of your fellow beleivers have perfect mental health? May be I will look into that...

I am sure that I've read several times about how religion helps people with their struggles. I'm glad it does and I'm glad that people find a solution without meds. The idea that you would suggest subscribing to a different belief system to solve my problems is silly though. Why would I pick a religion which has no relevance to all I've known to be true in this world and then expect it to help me? Is this really how popular faiths gain power. If so then there is one more reason for me to not buy into it.

Just as you find comfort in your faith, others find comfort in their's.
I hope that respecting this is part of what is taught in your church.
-Jeremy
