An eventual Dictatorship in the guise of Democracy is the only thing that will save the American SUV culture. It will cut through the Political bickering and decisive action to save the situation will be taken.

Also quite unlikely. Even during the depression, when 20% of the population was unemployed , the country was never in danger of disintegrating.

We are nowhere near that condition, nor do even the most pessemistic economist project that such conditions are on the horizon.

More likely if money becomes too tight, taxes will get raised. NO bigee
As an aside: Why is SUV culture worth saving? Does anyone care? I sure don't. Buy a fat ass car if you want. Complain about gas if it makes you happy. Makes no difference to me.

Now really, that IS all. Got work.

No, let's ditch it a move ahead to alternate technologies and lead the world again.

You have to hear a Mark Warner speech if you ever get the chance.

Can you provide any examples (other than increased airport security) where you have noticed a change in our institutions of freedom, justice and equality? I mean in your life -- imagine there was no internet, no left-wing blogs, no cable news shows -- just your own experience. How have things changed since 1996, for example?
By the time it filters down to my and your lives, it will be too late dude.

If you ever find yourself sitting in a federal prison without charges and without a trial, which has already happened to American citizens under the Bush administration, there will be little you can do.

Freedom requires vigilance. That means more than waiting for the knock on YOUR door to take action.

1967 your just like the typical American retard that I've been talking about in this Thread. When I say the SUV Culture I am talking about the American Standard of mass consumption that every Amercian has gotten used to. Take a look in the Supermarket at how many items are available for U to purchase, and then tell me your not part of that culture.

The catalyst for the Fall of America is a Terrorist Event of fairly large proportions...such as a Dirty Bomb exploding in one of Americas larger cities and the ensuing panic and run on the Banks.

Nobody on this Board seems to realize how close to a meltdown of the financial system 911 caused. It isn't the lives lost or the property damaged that send shivers through the spines of those in power it is the DRYING UP OF LIQUIDITY...CASH FLOW...WITHOUT CASH...MONEY GREASING THE SYSTEM>>THE SYSTEM FAILS TO OPERATE. BANKS AND FINANCIAL INSTUTUIONS ARE UNABLE TO MEET THEIR OBLIGATIONS AS THEY ARE OVERWHELMED WITH DEMAND. These instutions for instance Make a Market for Stocks, that means when a stock price reaches a certain level the financial instution guarntees that price by buying the stock to maintain that price. If the selling of Stocks is so heavy that the financial instutions run out of money to keep on purchasing them then the floor will drop out from under those securities and TRILLIONS of $$$ will evaporate in an instant.. This could very well happen if a Dirty Bomb should go off in a Major city, for what is the worth of Micro Stock if the city where Micro Soft is located is destroyed, that kind of uncertainity is what would cause a panic.

Further the major Insurance Companies after 911 will be insolvent ....be Bankrupt....no money...if another 911 should take place. Thats why the Insurance cos went to Congress and wanted the US Government to be the reinusring agent for them. Its like a Bookie laying off bets or in this case risk.

Tabs, you need to notch it down a peg or two, you're working yourself into a lather

While I think your predictions are extreme, my real problem with your thinking, in this thread and others, is your maddening passivity in the face of these challenges. Indeed, you seem to take no small amount of pleasure describing the fall our country.

The problem you describe, with fat, lazy and hapless Americans, is solved one person at a time. if you took as much joy from resisting what would bring our country down as you do in reporting it, you might actually influence events for the better.

Which is all any of us can hope for.

Who is going to buy a piece of RE..commercial or reidential if the threat of its destruction hangs over your head. Who is going to have the money to buy that home if the Banks are insolvent. FDIC doesn't have the money to cover everybody....Trillions of $$$$$ will evaporate in an instant.

In other words the Financial system will be OVERWHELMED....and that means the government will lose the means to govern effectivily and that will allow anarchy to reign just like it did in NO when that authority was absent.

Well then Rodeo I suggest that we all turn our TVs off now, go to the window and yell, "I'm as mad as he11 and I'm not going to take it anymore." as a first step in the redemption of the American political soul.

Maybe so. Or maybe reading all the Bush-is-the-boogeyman stories over the past 5 years has made you paranoid.

Who are these Americans who are sitting in Federal prisons without charges and without a trial?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/José_Padilla_%28alleged_terrorist%29

He's finally been indicted, but was held for years without charges and, for much of the time, without access to a lawyer.

And don't tell me that he is a terrorist. That would be missing the point entirely.

Look, we all do what we can to preserve freedom and liberty.

For some, that might mean yelling out the window. For others, simply resisting the urge to submit to some inevitable tyranny would be an improvement.

Rodeo I for one think that it is your type of Liberal that will be the most easily led down a Garden Path by a Dictator.

The Overnight Lending Rate was LOWERD to 1%, GM went to 0% Financing which one kept the cash flowing and the American people buying....there is nothing like greed to keep an American purchasing.

When the monthly cost of borrowing money decreased the price of the merchandise went up to recreate an equilbrium of cost to income. As prices rose to keep the wheels turning special financing schemes were put into place. Now to slow the increase in price of the merch the cost of borrowing money has increased. What then becomes at special risk is the special financing loans as they come due but that is another topic of discussion.
