Hey Tabs, school in the seventies is nice, but continued school to the present is better. Enormous new information from the Freedom of Information Act alone has enhanced our understanding all the way back to the First World War.

You put a negative meaning to the word propaganda. It does not have that negativity in the dictionary. So I stand by the use of that word. I never claimed that it was the republicans who started the "missile gap" story. I pointed out both sides used much falsely generated fear of commies and military requirements to promote their own party.

Your miss-representation of the points in my posts is not up to your standards, nor your backhanded insults to liberal revisionist history or my education. I am more than happy to go toe-to-toe with you on any history debate or educational achievements. But you should realize much of your information is out of date.

Howard:

In other words, it appears that the majority sees things as "bad", even though most of us live in a relatively insulated environment, separated from the ills that are evidently all around us and, according to some, right over the horizon.

I watched a program on Pompeii tonight. I wonder how many of them died because they were in denial, even though they were still in the throes of rebuilding after seismic activities in their recent past....In retrospect, I think most would, if they could, say "I shoulda seen it coming.." (in Latin, of course)

He's finally been indicted, but was held for years without charges and, for much of the time, without access to a lawyer.

And don't tell me that he is a terrorist. That would be missing the point entirely.
You are right...Padilla should have been executed almost immediately. There is no excuse for his still being alive.

It's no secret that the Army is scraping the bottom of the barrell to get new recruits to serve as fodder for Bush's folly ... How many sons and daughters of politicans do you know are serving in Iraq?

Thought so.

But...

Would the world not be a better place if we could get rid of everyone that does not agree with our individual philosophy?

Wait a minute....Would there be anyone left alive?

Then again.....

Tabs, now you are just declaring some kind of victory with no basis of fact for such. I thought that was the Mull modus operandi. .

Yes, propaganda could mean spin. That's exactly what I said the government did to persuade the masses to follow.

Yes the Freedom of Information Act has CHANGED our understanding of history. So some of the history you learned 30+ years ago is outdated and just plan wrong.

You should try to keep up with historical discoveries and research developments so that you stop making mindless statements like "checkmate", when you have no factual basis for it.

Going toe to toe with the Ruskies in Nucklear Combat

"some of the history you learned 30+ years ago is outdated and just plan wrong."

U mean the Germans won WW2????

"propaganda could mean spin. That's exactly what I said the government did to persuade the masses to follow."

FDR was worried about how to go to war with the Germans after Pearll Harbor. It wasn't the Japs that he wanted to defeat, he felt he had gotten himself into the wrong war. However Hitler fixed that for him, by declaring war on the US on December 11th. Once Germany had declared war, Germany was lumped in with Japan and there wasn't a need to spin anything. Now in 1940 there was a need to bring the American people along by high lighting just how bad the Nazis were.

"stop making mindless statements like "checkmate", when you have no factual basis for it."

Half this Board fell off their chairs laughing the other day when I got Rodeo to go down the "Garden Path." Rodeo gets the feeling that he was had, but still doesn't have a clue as to how. Now RPK ESQuire your proving to be just like the retards I used to push down the stairs as well, and I though so much the better of U to...how disapointing. .

Now how does someone with my superior intellect , explain it to ...well a person like yourself. ... When U challeged me to go "toe to toe" with U, U showed pique my dear man., and U left yourself vunerable. Thus "Checkmate"

I remember when tabs was all wound up and excited, touting that everyone should be bombed, that Bush should invade Germany on a elephant, that France should be bombed beacuse they didn't wan't to support Iraqi intervention, that USA will be next Roman Empire and rule the world both military and economically etc. Then came posts about his troubled childhood, Las Vegas losses and buffé's, cracking houses and now doomsday profecies about US of America.

I see a pattern here:

1. Something happends on a global scale
2. Tabs reacts on it according to his own beliefs, mostly in a way he would like them to happend or overreacing on his own fears. Interesting fact is that his prophecies are never moderate...it's either boom or bust.
3. Things develop their own way...no world war III or collapse of goverment but just in a manner that you would expect. Economy either goes up or down, armed conflicts bur out, new appear.
4. Tabs readjusts to new facts and starts pumping new prohpecies based on new situation, one more extreme than other.

What we see here is a blogged toughts of man who would like to see himself as important and toughtfull, enjoying the fact that there is a public that actually responds to ramblings. Quite entertaining but off-target most of the times, to say the least.

My opinion:

No , America is not going to fail. Iraq was a mess, yes. Most of foreign people told you that, yes. After 9/11 many folks like tabs were all wound up and wanted to bomb everyone and everything, understandable. Now things are getting in perspective and some adjustments will happend, when military ventures that cost a lot need to be amortized.

Cities won't explode. You might not be able to fill upp the SUV as cheap as before and some folks will loose their money depending on financial decisions they made.

Dollar might loose it's value a bit (I guess around 20% more in next two years) and some export industry will be hit. I also believe that one of giants (GM or such) might tank over in following years. We'll see a dip in economy (totaly predictable as economy was going upwards last few years) and that will hopefully lead to some sort of minor "new deal". This will lead to reorganization of bussines sector as a reaction to new situation and hopefully lead to more competitive US industry when dip ends.

In five years we'll see upturn again and I'll do my best to try to buy that 993TT that I dreamt about

And yeah, I don't believe republicans will win next elections.

Do you think that that is the majority, or vocal minorities at each edge of the fringe? Is there anywhere or anything you would rather be?

Well Tabs,
Being rather new here and not knowing your past wacko history of idiotic statements, I understand now your childish crowing. I love how you think you can logically debate and offer up gems like "U mean the Germans won WW2???? " as a rebuttal to your lack of any in-depth historical understanding or recent research. I actually thought you could think! Silly of me, a rabid emotionally driven nincompoop is all you will ever be, with the benefit of the internet to add a public voice to your nonsense. What a pity! Do you even know how to play chess? No indication of that either.

Howard:

I am one of those relatively happy people, concerned in an intellectual way about the world situation and the condition of the nation, but on a day-to-day basis, I live each day to the fullest as best I can, enjoying the sunrise and sunset, and all the hours in between.

Yes, I think the "majority", from time to time is taken in by all the hype but I suspect that as time goes on, more and more will disassociate themselves from the daily glut of hype from the press and from our "leaders" and realize there are much more important things to concern one's self with. At least that is my fervent wish.

I also think that, world wide, most people want very simple things: Food, shelter, a job, and to be left alone. If only our world leaders understood that, this would be a much more pleasant planet upon which to live.
