Unlike your less than knowledged observation, I asked one or two mechanics about the possibilities of this engine - none of who had any hands-on experience with it, so, no, I don't know "his mechanic. Nonetheless, they agreed that while a 2.4 on the outside, it could easily be a 2.8 on the inside, thus allowing it to rev as high as 8,500 RPM. Now, unless EM is willing to tear down his motor in front of all of us, the parameters of the bet coincide with whether or not the motor revs to 8,500, not how or why it revs to 8,500 RPMs. For my money, which I said continually through this thread that I was not betting anyway, had I bet, it'd be on the motor reving that high, because why in the world would the owner say it would and it in fact does not? As far as EM as a person, if you read CLOSELY, you would see that the owness was on those who said the engine would not do what it was claimed to do - not necessarily on the owner. So if no one was around to pony up a C-note, what's he going to show up at WSIR for? To go around the track a few times, then go home. Granted, you're coming into all this on the caboose car; your only interesting comment involved the age of the tach. But if all this still bothers you, by all means, be the lead person on another thread pointing toward this Dec. 13th when there'll be another track day; and put up $100 to see if the engine is what the owner says it is. If anything, this has made for some great low-brow aspersions on both sides worthy of Porsche ownership. Oh, yeah: I forgot your accusation of my "defending the guy." Let me put it this way: I think I've made it fairly clear that I'd defend malibu.exec and his half-assed comments about as vigorously as I'd defend your half-assed comments, which is to say I wouldn't.

I am sorry I was not able to make it out to WSIR today. Circumstances that arose on Monday took a front seat to this track day. Family and work come first, play time second. Sorry but that is the way I am. I had made sure that EM knew he had a paid for track day entry fee with OTR and OTR knew that if EM showed that my fee was to be used by him ( I had paid for myself weeks ago). I still owe the first round at OutBack after the next track day.
Would anything have been put to bed by the end of the day? No, probably not, but it would have been a great track day. Again my apologies to all for not making it today but my reasons for being home were more important.

Ahh, I missed the part where EM did 165 MPH while drafting Dave B.'s butt!! Well where's the mystery in that? Ever ride a bike and draft behind another cyclist? The guy in front does all the work and breaks the wind, and you just coast behind him. Notice how cars in Nascar also draft behind each other - conserving fuel? I knew someone once who had a bug who's front end was literally sucked up for about 10 minutes driving behind a semi at speed. He couldn't get off until the the semi slowed down. Hell, back when I raced bicycles, I could do 60 mph drafting behind a semi - that doesn't mean I could do it by myself.
The point is, you could probably do 165 mph in a 90 hp Ford Pinto, assuming the engine could rev high enough, or the transmission was geared high enough, if it were drafting behind another vehicle. Just because the engine can rev to 8500 doesn't prove anything. You need horsepower to achieve high speeds, and I'd like to see this 2.4 be able to pull 165 mph by itself, no drafting, or 30 mph tailwinds. |

Am I the only one who finds it doubly ironic that the man who repeatedly says he does not believe in books or equations trots one out (the gearing chart) -- and THEN chooses the wrong one...

and to think I was glued to this thread like a blue Targa to an RS Carrera at 7800RPMs... Its a good thing I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Randywebb thats hysterical, not only that why not mock up a chart that looks even better, if he's going to use meaningless charts?
Who are the photo shop guys ? can we get some tach pictures with all kinds of really high numbers showing, they prove a lot!

My first thought was, "Unbelievable. All this and the big letdown. A no-show." Then, I began to realize this was never gonna happen. The Pelican OT forum is one if the biggest crocks in the world and this is exactly right for it. I can't believe I read ANY of this ***** thinking it would actually occur. I can't say I'm disappointed in anyone, however, except myself for being sucked down this worthless, time consuming hole.
I shoulda never opened this thread. Kinda makes me want to go out and put a for sale sign on the car I have had for only a month. I'm just too embarrassed. Please, don't anyone say they saw me here. I once went to a party in Newport Beach where one a*****e decided to start a game of Liar's Poker with hundred dollar bills. Just a ploy for all the silk shirts to open their wallets and spill some hundreds on the ground. Haven't been to a Newport party since. Newport Beach, Malibu, same place, different coordinates. I need to email Wayne and tell him to rename this the Corvette and Viper owners forum. Wonder what the next challenge will be? No, I really don't want to know. Unsubscribed. (Actually, I never was subscribed.) |

Milt, Really, I've been finding this whole thread to be one big belly laugh...I loved your comment on Malibu & Newport Beach...think about it...this whole thread has been great fun, and certainly a cultural education for those in other parts of this great land of ours. Parts of Southern California ARE different, aren't they?
![]() I've thought about buying a Corvette, but I haven't learned the trick of chewing copenhagen without opening the can. Furthermore, Cindy refuses to bleach her hair and get a boob job...

BTW, I should be kissing EM's ass. Why? He has the cool job. He's a car stuntman/coordinator and renter of cars to the movies, etc. Hence the 500 cars. And, he can drive. |

Heated water? Malibu doesn't even have a sewer system. Each house holds its own ***** via septic tanks. The mountains are pushing the highway into the Pacific Ocean, and between fire, high tides, earthquakes and landslides, a house will be lucky to survive a decade anywhere from Big Rock to Ventura County. Not all is Hollywood and C-notes spilling out of open pockets. Just ask a real local.

Photos of Tachs
I am happy to see the first photo of that tach at 8500...
The grainyness of the photo makes me believe it was from a camera from a phone....as now days the cameras have much more definition. Gauge interprertation of the tach along with the paralax error shows that it is close enough to call 8500. A gauge with this much space between lines and values is meant for general and not definitive value....Therefore with my professional opinion is that it is at 8500 rpm. However, the second "holy smokes" photo showing 10,000 rpm is a fake...The picture has been doctored. I hope that was meant as a joke. Am I to understand that none of you guys showed for this?
