Rick, I carry as well, but wouldn't dream of having a sidearm on me when on the m/c. In a tankbag, sure, but if you ever landed on the thing, it could cause nasty fractures-I know of cases where folks have had serious sternum injuries from ipods and the like, wouldn't want to hit my hip on a .45 or SIG in a fall...just something to think about.

Holster velcro'd somewhere between the front seats, ideally a holster that doesn't look like a holster when empty - that would be my idea.

I've gone down threee times on the bike while carrying in a Fobus holster. Gun didn't even come loose and I felt nothing. In the tank means I'd have to take it out and holster up when I get off the bike and I don't want to do that too often.

Not necessarily. There are federal weapon transportation laws. As long as you do not make a scheduled stop in certain states, you can pass through without doing that state's song/dance.

People I've met who are LEAST knowledgable in firearm laws? Law Enforcement Officers...

Regardless, the OP is asking how to carry his weapon in his car...he didn't say anything about crossing state lines. If you are going to carry concealed, then storing/locking the weapon inside your vehicle makes it useless in event of an "emergency". Wear it, or leave it home.

Sorry, but that's not "concealed" according to FLA. As crazy as it may sound, the weapon must be concealed from view at all times. If another driver sees the weapon on your seat, you can be charged with unlawful display of a firearm.

790.053 Open carrying of weapons.--

(1) Except as otherwise provided by law and in subsection (2), it is unlawful for any person to openly carry on or about his or her person any firearm or electric weapon or device.

Another word of caution in some of our more oppressive states ( MA comes to mind) it's ILLEGAL to leave a firearm in an unattended automobile , even locked in the trunk!!!

Of course I cover the weapon with something. I just stated that I placed it on the seat.

Why would a cop ever see the gun anyway? I'd never consent to a police search of my car and I'd also never give them a reason to ask.

Funny I"ve been pulled over and asked if I had any weapons or illegal drugs in my car!! I'm thinking "yeah you ********* like I'd tell you if I had a kilo under the seat and you'd give me a break if I did", and since 99.9% of them think they should be the only ones with guns, I've wondered what a "yes I"m carrying" response would get ??

I'd always answer NO, regardless of what I had or whose car I had. No point in giving him a definitive reasonable suspicion to search it without your consent. And then if he asks your consent, you know he doesn't have a reasonable suspicion, which means you might be able to get the search overruled in court if he searches anyway and finds something.

If you said no, and even if the the officer didn't have probable cause, then found your weapon, what then?

At the least, you might spend some time inspecting the stitches in the rear seat upholstery of a patrol car wearing a pair of stainless steel bracelets. And if you weren't alone (e.g. spouse, mother, mother-in-law, etc.), they'd be keeping you company too. As they say, "You'd be in whole world of hurt", but in that scenario, not from the police.

The cop wouldn't even have to ask me, since I always hand over my CCW with my license instead of letting him hear the words "I have a gun" leave my mouth. Producing a CCW usually lets cops know you're not a bad guy. But in states that don't honor my CCW I still keep a sidearm in the car and I don't show a CCW then. Happened to me in CA in April and once in a national park. Cop never asked me about what was in the car, but I'd have not told him or consented to a search if he had.

NJ is the worst. Do NOT drive through that state with a gun, and damned sure don't drive through with hollowpoint ammunition.

You don't need to consent to a vehicle search, vehicles are an exception to the 4th amendment by caselaw. Most cops will ask so as not to have to litigate, but they don't "need" consent if they have pc for the initial stop.

If you have a CCW and have a weapon on you when pulled over...you are requiered by law to tell the officer...before he asks.

Not true in many states. It may be adviseable, but not legally required. I think it's a much better idea to quietly hand the CCW over with the driver's license, not say, "I have a gun".
