I have a 1986 Cilo, sweet ride, not cheap back then but I would love an old Schwinn Paramount.

I had a gorgeous mid 70's Eddy Merckx that I sold a few years ago. It was a bit big for me, but I regret it a bit...

Just picked up a Walter Croll Pista from evil bay. Anyone know anything about Croll bikes? From google, seems like he was from MN and this is an early 90's frame. Guess he got bought out and no longer building frames.

Walter Croll is pretty well respected in American frame building. The kitted-out Crolls with good components, go for some fairly high $$.

Here's a link to what your Croll Pista might look like once you fit it for track work...

Now that I think about it, my Cannondale is old enough to be vintage. Late 80's with Shimano 600 Components, except the crankset. I swapped out the 175mm arms for a set of Sugino 170's for more "spin". I still have the original 600 175's, AND the BioPace chainrings too. The wheels are late 70's , early 80's Zeus 32 hole hubs, with Mavic Open 4 CD rims. I even have SCOTT DH bars on it.

This thing SCREAMS late 80's!

Hey what track is up there in your neck of the wood? I used to ride a track on the road just so I can spin. Usually around the Rose bowl.

DD74,

Griffith park??? I used to know every inch of that place down to where the cracks, pot holes and the easy side of the street to ride. I grew up 3 to 4 miles from there. My high school is less then 1/2 miles away from the park just up the hill. You know what I did everyday after school. Too bad, it weren't chasing cheerleaders. When did you start riding there, and did you do the wednesday or saturday rides?

I've got a mid-80's Trek 520. I bought it for just the reasons listed earlier.
- Chromoly frame which is tough as nails. Compared to most of the current road bikes -- it's a truck.
- The front fork has more spring then aluminum or carbon-fiber.
- Lug mounts for luggage racks and stuff.
- Used, it cost a heck of a lot less the lowest level of Trek road bike from their current range -- which didn't have the features I mentioned above.

Nice set up! I'm thinking Chris King headset, Nitto bars, stem and seat post Brooks and a nice decent wheels. Now, I'd like to have a suicide front brake but unsure if I want to drill the fork. I could get another fork and put brakes on those for street riding I guess.

So you goinna ride this thing on the track or the street? On my old Medici, I had an old colnago chrome fork on there just so I can spin through the winter. Don't drill the fork, its too pretty. Why Nitto bars and stem. No Cinelli or TTT?

I still and never know why would one ride a fix gear bike on the street?

I never seem to find those Wednesday or Saturday rides. Maybe I arrive too late for them. Now and then I'll latch onto a couple of groups, but that's about it. I've been riding the park ever since I started riding bikes. I used to do a huge Sunday ride of about 50-60 cyclists. Great fun!

I found them, I was curious on the pricing. the striping would cost...I may have found a guy to do the decal work. I might even have one at work. Bike's gotta come apart first.

Wed night rides has been long gone. A bunch of national riders used to come out for that one. Saturday ride is a gonna as well. You should try the Montrose ride. That's a heck of a lot of fun if you are in ok shape. The sunday ride? Is that the one that take you over La Tuna Canyon. How long have you been riding?

I think the Barry ride still exist. I did it a few years back. This is the ride that will get your heart pumping. They start at Riverside by the studios and go through the park then up Chevy Chase and over to La Tuna and down to the other side and everyones kind of go home form there. Wed morning at abut 8:00am.

Do you live near the park? In the valley?

Sunday rides for me were just an informal seven to ten laps around the flat parts of Griffith Park - no hills. We'd start at the pony rides and cycle to Barham Blvd for a full lap. Put in about 50 miles, though I was never sure.

I've never done Rose Bowl, believe it or not, nor Montrose or La Tuna. I lived on the Westside during my racing days, and ended up training a lot in the Santa Monica Mountains out to Ventura. Deer Creek is probably the most perilous descent around. I think I've hit about 60 mph down that.

How long have I been riding? Road bikes - Shoot, about 25 yrs.

I live about 6 miles from Griffith Park, so it's an easy jaunt out there for some crank work.

We are about the same age. If you raced in the mid 80-mid 90s then we might have cross paths. There were only a bunch of us that race in the 80s, so you pretty much know who of all the hammer heads are. Did you ride for a club on the west side. I rode for La Grange for a year with a couple of those guys at Erines. Did the ride from MDR a good few times.

I started riding USCF races as a Junior at 16. was serious for about 20 years. Pretty much quit after that. Now I do about 20 miles of pizza a day.

Yep - I rode with La Grange a few times up into the Malibu hills. Sorry to say, they were slow. The Montrose boys were much faster in Griffith Park.

I rode past where Ernie's was on San Vicente Blvd. last Saturday. Now that was a pro shop. Right now the space is some typical fru-fru rich Westsider eatery. Shameful.

The whole world's come down to mass crap supplied by either Trek, Specialized or LeMond, and it's all sold at Helen's Cycles in either Santa Monica, Hollywood or The Valley. I mean, when's the last time you've seen a new Pinarello or Colnago, or even a nice Bianchi, except on TV during the T de F? Hell, I was the only one I knew of who had a Scapin. And that was a bad-assed fast ride (until I bent the frame. ).
