Rangers looked terrible. Totally unacceptable. Defeated by a team of average players with one good defenceman. Inexcusable, time for changes in NYC.

Can't hit Karlsson with the puck? No problem, hit when he doesn't have it. Can't keep up with him? Maybe don't let the second or third guy leave him alone? Maybe dump the puck into his corner every single time he is on the ice. Terrible coaching or stupid players.

They did look good and they looked horrible. Me thinks Th King will not be a SC champion

Hey Flat, it took about 3 reads of your post before I finally twigged to whom you were referring by MAF - I gotta cut back on the sauce in the 'magic coffees'

No you need to be a better Pens fan :D I'm thinking your 'PVR' is a reference to a DVR?

But: this is also part of the fun of the SCP, that you never know what will happen, which goalie will get hot, etc.

The Rangers were in the driver's seat after game four. Then something changed. Chris Neil? I don't think that was the difference. Karlsson got better and the Rangers had no answers other than roll over.

Well, sadly it is that time of year again

I really wanted to see Ovi break the curse. He did everything Trots asked him to do and changed up his play to suit the team. Also, he has a good heart (does a ton of charity work that is not publicized) and is a good player. He also doesn't whine or make excuses!

Por_sha911 05-11-2017 05:53 PM

I have to say that Fleury played Cup hockey. He stole that win from the Caps. If a lesser goalie played it could have easily been 4-2 Caps.

Speaking of sucking at predictions:

Stick a fork in me, I'm done.

OK so who thinks the Preds will play the Pens in the final?

+1

The futility of OV was summed up in the last two minutes of game seven. Twice he tried to carry the puck up the ice on his own. Both times he was stripped of the puck before he crossed center ice.

Great pure goal scorer. Great regular season player. It ends there. Truly great players and great teams get it done.

Did any of you guys see the controversial hit by the Leafs Kadri on Ovie's knee in their series?

WATCH: Maple Leafs' Kadri sends Ovechkin flying with controversial hit | WATCH |

Methinks he came in a tich low but from that angle, one cannot make an absolute judgement on the hit. Kadri does have a reputation for some borderline antics & as being a rather unpleasant little sch1tt on the ice. The skinny on Ovie was he played with something less than 100% health (as do a lot guys at this time of year) as a direct result of that hit. I would say that had a effect on his performance. As I've been told a thousand & eight times -'breaks-of-the-game'

Cheers
JB

The hit was technically legal, but just legal.

I would like to see that hit removed from the game. A hip check is fine when a defenceman is backing up and a foward is coming at him. A hip check check for players skating at each other should not be allowed.

Kadri is a dirty player. And a suck. Always looking to make a hit a half-second late, when a guy is looking the other way, then act all innocent.

No one has confirmed that the Kadri hit is what hurt him. Whatever. Players play hurt. He lost.

Buckterrier 05-12-2017 01:20 PM

No one deserves bad hits. Overcheckin isn't exactly a saint on the ice. I'm not even talking about the rap on Crosby's head just in general. I like his grit. But goal scorer is all he is. Like I said Trotz came across in the press conference as pure class. And hopefully they'll both win a Cup someday, just not at the Pens expense.

I'm calling for the Preds in 6 & Pens in 6. I'd say a Pen's sweep or 5 if they had even 80% of their starters in good health.

By the way Joe I whooped your butt pretty good in the Bracket wouldn't you say? AND I still have the Pens winning Lord Stanely's Cup :D

The Russian Hockey Federation has made these claims before without any merit. Just sayin'. We'll see what the Caps say today.

Por_sha911 05-12-2017 06:19 PM

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pray.gif Yes, Buck you killed me in the brackets. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pray.gif
Sigh. I promise not to use the name Cindy between now and the end of the Cup finals.

I don't see Ovi as a dirty player as much as a punishing player. He hits hard and often but he isn't Matt Cooke or Brad what's his name.

billybek 05-12-2017 08:02 PM

lol.

Joe I saw your post while looking on Pelican not signed in. That's manning up and I respect it, (it will also be a breath of fresh air ;) ).
To you hockey hardcores wasn't it the 1-3-1 trap that NJ used in their heyday? And wasn't it also what just about ruined hockey, that and all the clutching & grabbing that went with it? Mid - late 90s?
Pens need to stay focused and not get frustrated by the trap.

Ducks didn't have any wings last night, cement skates. Geez Ketzlaf is a wrecking crew and borderline dirty. I haven't seen enough of him to say for sure dirty but he certainly enjoys playing, as the incomparable Mr. Milbury likes to say, nasty. Just from watching last nights game he looks to injure with some of his hits.

guilty as charged :( . BUT we were good at it!

Getzlaf is an elite tough player. Possibly the best all-around player in the league.

Por_sha911 05-13-2017 04:47 PM

That boring hockey put Marty Brodeur's on Lord Stanley's Cup 3 times (not to mention some very nice hardware in the trophy room).
Must have been a love/hate relationship for the Devils fans. Love that they win/hate the boring strategy.

I for one really hated it. It's OK when you're defending a one goal lead in the final minutes but not to stall a whole game. I also hate dump and chase except during line changes.

The Sens/Pens tilts might prove interesting - maybe some fire-wagon hockey??
My own ill-advised quote (#1180) in hindsight should have been in the sarcastic font. A bit of a boring game courtesy of the dreaded '1-3-1', but a very effective one if you are a Sens fan. The game did have a few 'moments'. Hopefully the Ducks/Preds will have more action.

Cheers
