As much as i loath the pens there is no denying they're a great team. I take no issue with the preds goal being disallowed in game 6. I thought it was pretty clear the whistle had blown. Whether it was a quick whistle or not is a moot point.

Now this talk about this pens squad (15/16 and 16/17) being one of the all time great teams.... Lol .... Ahhh i don't think so. I would rank the pens early 90's team as better and neither of them as good as the mid 80's oilers, or late 70's habs, maybe even the early 80's islanders. mind you as a flyer fan my guys lost to all three of those teams in a finals series so its not like i exactly like those teams.

+1. Include the late 90's/early 2000's Red Wings, as well.

In other hockey news...We still suck the most!

Cheer up flatbutt. Toronto looked worse that yous guyz and a few picks with some younger players and they had a decent season.

While I agree this version of the Pens did not pass the eye test for greatness,(although one could say their perseverance alone constitutes greatness), I believe the stats do tell a different story.

1). Four top Cup playoff scorers
2). Top goal scorer
3). Top assist man
4). Top goals against goaltender
5). Top save percentage goaltender
6). 5 of 16 wins were shutouts
7). Top scoring team in playoffs
8). Second best goals against team in playoffs

Malkin being a beast, leading scorer and leader in PIM. Pretty heady stuff.

Those are pretty good stats. I will say though they did not look 'great'. Maybe it was all the plug-n-play they had to do.

Have faith Flatt, you have to sink to the bowels to come back up. Just ask a Pens fan ;)

This and I missed maybe the most important aspect...

A back up goalie had to win the first two series. The second being a game seven on enemy ice against the best regular season team in the league.

Hell, While I'm at it, having the toughest road to the Cup final.

OKOKOK before more vomit ends up on cheerios.

Let's say a rookie goalie, although this year I think MAF won 7 games, MM won 9. Regardless MAF was a rookie this year.

But MM was not a 'back-up', not this year.

A little late to the thread--CONGRATULATIONS PENGUINS!. I was out of the country and didn't get to see any of the full games, but was able to watch the highlights--what a series. Can't wait to watch the full replays.
Quick thoughts.
the Predators have a strong team and will be contenders again.

MAF and Murray were both epic in the playoffs--(2) shut-outs in the final (2) games for Murray(technically still a rookie). and MAF goal tending against the Jackets and Caps kept Pit in the finals. MAF handing the Cup to Murray was a nice gesture--MAF will be missed in Pittsburgh.

Malkin once again was essential.

Hornquist getting the game winner was a very nice moment. He has been a goal machine.

All of the Pens role players stepped up--huge praise for Mike Sullivan he is a hell of a coach.

Loved seeing Hainsey get a Cup win--and Kunitz getting his fourth, and Kessel adding another after his bum treatment in Toronto for years.

Crosby--one of the all-time best. He is right up there with Howe, Gretzy, Lemieux, Orr.

Looking forward to a Three-peat!
