Today I climbed Mulholland Highway from the Rock Store then took Latigo Canyon Road to PCH and back. The note at the beach said "Latigo 9.2 mi 2,250 ft" then I can add to that the climb on Mul. Hwy. which is 2 miles and 768 ft according to mapmyride.com. I did Latigo in about 45 minutes since I was just ejoying the ride and spinning rather than standing and pushing a tall gear.
Piuma Road (which I did yesterday) is 8.04 mi and 2,165 ft of climb to the top of Stunt. I am not sure if those numbers are elevation changes or total climbing but it has been a good week of cycling, especially the today and yesterday. Both rides had dense marine layers such that I could only see about 50 ft. in front of me. That and the wet road made for an interesting descent on Latigo Canyon near the top! It cleared up for the descent on Mul. Hwy. today, though. There is great scenery on both roads and also fun, twisty turns. I love living so close to the Santa Monica Mountains.

When I ride a bicycle in the mountains I prefer the Kansas or Florida mountains.

I am going to take tomorrow off. Just do the Rock Store climb in the morning then back home to watch Le Mans (starts at 6am Pacific time). Sunday will be light too as I have to move all my stuff back up to school since class starts on Monday.
So today I went over to Latigo and was not planning on going all the way to PCH but I was feeling good and I figured if I was going to do it any day, then today is the day to do it. Thursday I did not plan on Piuma, either. I just decided as I was heading to the Rock Store in my car to do a short ride and went the other direction.

I liked pedaling my 10 speed road bike through the Ozarks. There were a lot of hills, but they were steep but small enough at a time that the going downhill made up for the uphill bits. But hey, I was 15 and knew no pain compared to today.

My last bike had only three speeds and it weighed a ton. It had horrible brakes and was a POS.

Up to a point I can just stand up and attack them but when they get too long I get tired out and have to go into the granny gears and spin like mad to make it up at a snail's pace. I like the pretty constant, shallow to moderate grades in the Santa Monicas. Plus there are many more paved canyon roads here. In SLO there are more mountainbike and hiking trails.The pain goes away after a while. If you can ignore it long enough you get sort of numb or else an endorphin high. My lower back muscles are what hurts the most when I am sitting down. Plus my seat is one of the racing kind, wheras my mtb has a cushier one. So I would get out of the saddle for short periods to relieve the pain.

Yeah, but the organizers decided they want it to turn LMP2 laptimes and not challenge for outright victory. That is a shame since it would be cool to see something so different and with a smaller engine and light weight spank the heavier LMP1 cars. Of course, those cars are "supposed" to turn 3:30 laptimes. At least that is what the ACO wants.
Personally, I would like to see rules sort of like group C. You would be given a certain amount of energy - fuel or electricity - and you can do whatever you want with it. Just say that the car has to fit inside a box x by y by z and also has to pass safety tests like the F1 crash tests. Then no minimum weight or any other sort of restrictions. Well, no hazardous materials or manufacturing processes.
