NOW is not the time to realize the toilet paper gnomes have struck again.

Jim Richards 02-14-2013 05:06 AM

Mornin' y'all. That's good to hear, Janet.

RKDinOKC 02-14-2013 05:17 AM

Mertnin all

an glad ta hear the chebby is not an option. I even think it's silly when hot rodders put a chebby motor on a Ford chassis.

Company I work for has a "Show Truck". It a 1948 Ford F1 pickup, the same year the company was founded. They also have a vintage Harley to put in the bed. Say it really brings people into their booth at the trade shows.

Anyway the only thing Ford about the truck is the actual body and hub caps, the suspension is Dodge K car to add disc brakes, the motor and drivetrian are chevy, and even the seats are out of a Camaro. They started with Ford and couldn't get the crate CobraJet running so, swapped the whole drivetrain for an LS1 setup.

Every time the management sees a totally stock F1 they drool all over it because theirs is just a street rod now.

Jferr006 02-14-2013 05:20 AM

I guess he thought I NEEDED 300 hp.. I really don't, I get the rationale but, I put my foot down. I'm gunna hate myself for it and he's probably going to hate me but... we'll see how it goes.

Jim Richards 02-14-2013 05:24 AM

It'll all work out fine, or at least OK.

GH85Carrera 02-14-2013 05:26 AM

A friend of mine years ago had a early 50s Ford pickup. The cab is tiny on those things. It was a nice driver antique. Then he attacked it. He essentially cut the cab at the rear window and extended it to be nice and roomy, and put that body on a modern mini-van chassis. He had power everything, reliable fuel injected engine ABS brakes, airbags, killer stereo and a 15K paint job. He sunk a small fortune into it. He got tired of every-time he stopped someone wanted to chat about his cool truck. He sold it for 1/3 of what he spent on it. Someone bought a cool street rod.

Richard, that's how I feel as well, I like stock cars, I like them not necessarily totally restored, thats why Miss Daisy is kept stock and will not be all gussied up and repainted, I like that she is over 50 and looks it, but mechanically she is very sound, but with Porsche bits, and her interior is functional, I have replaced front seat covers, only covers, the underneath horse hair is still there, I have recovered the dash, but she has her original dash metal underneath, a few holes in the dash metal, but stripped, POR15'd and repainted to keep the rust at bay, and recovered with same coloured vinyl.

Some have said I should get her repainted as she has some pitting on the bonnet, courtesy of the mice that must have lived in the rafters of the garage she sat in for 31 years, and a few blemishes from dents , but I like it. I am going to get some old nerf bars and take her bumpers off occasionally to make her look different for summer fun, but that's about it.

Brother In Law loves to get stock cars and then start modifying them, I just don't see the need.

Also we get a car and keep it for years, he swaps out cars evry two years or so, always has 5hit cars and complains that he can't afford a 'classic' like us, derr, if he stopped buying stock and spending 5hit loads modifying them, only to sell them cheaply for something else and start again, he could get a classic and spend some money making it worth more and keep it.

azzarule 02-14-2013 05:34 AM

happy valentines day everybody

GH85Carrera 02-14-2013 05:35 AM

We had a guy at the autocross in a 944 (or was it a 924?) that was a Frankenstein. He cut a hole in the hood to have the carb get ram air. The exhaust ran through the passenger cabin and it was more like dryer vent hose than exhaust pipe. It broke down on the track more times than it finished a lap. It was a total POS.
