Azzy, I have Grundy insurance for the garage queen. It's about $525/year for $35k agreed value, for DC. Probably would've been cheaper if I lived in MD or VA.

azzarule 03-08-2013 08:39 AM

Grundy, mm I will have a look at them. I know we have discussed insurance before, but I was just shocked at how much the difference was.

GH85Carrera 03-08-2013 08:51 AM

My 911 is agreed value and I pay right at $300 per year for it. It is insured as a pleasure vehicle so only occasional drive to work, unlimited towing miles and they did not blink when I hit the deer. I took it to the shop I wanted and had it fixed right.

Jim
If it makes you feel better, when I came here from Albuquerque, I chose the lowest priced outfit I could find and got a discount for shipping two. I towed the third one myself. It was the 4th of july weekend and there were record temps the entire route (around 105F). I had 5 flat tires (not at the same time) on my trailer and had to sleep in the Walmart parking lot twice waiting on trailer tires since local shops were all out of them. The last day, it rained like crazy all day. The truck showed up a day later and the cars were perfect and looked just washed as I had given them to the driver a week before. I don't know how they avoided the rain. The one I towed, was filthy.

Well, at least your trip wasn't boring. :D

I'm not worried about the actual shipping of the car, just the pickup/delivery schedule. It has to be picked up before we fly out to SoCal late next week, and arrive in SoCal while we're out there. So, a firm drop-dead date for both pickup and delivery. Otherwise, it'll have to wait for our next trip. And, I've already given notice to the guy I rent a parking space from for the garage queen. I was just surprised by the last minute scheduling drama from them after I made the arrangements with them 5 weeks ago. At least this morning's email from the transport company makes me feel more relaxed.

RKDinOKC 03-08-2013 12:18 PM

To be honest your shipper is shopping your load around trying to get the best deal up to the last minute he thinks he can guarantee your dates and prices. They don't even know who the actual carrier will be until it is locked in. That is why they tell you you will be called when the guy will show up. The reputation of the shipping broker is what is on the line, and they have quite a bit of clout with the trucks as they can make or break them. Probably started their load listing a little low and the load wasn't locked in with anyone yet is why the last minute drama.

Nor much you can do, thats the way the industry has evolved. You can hire a real shipping company like Intercity with their own covered trucks, but it will cost more than double.

Jim Richards 03-08-2013 12:22 PM

Yep, Intercity Lines runs their own trucks. That's who I'm using.

Porsche-poor 03-08-2013 12:24 PM

Made it till noon. Headed home then nap time.

Jim Richards 03-08-2013 12:30 PM

Sick and twisted. But I like that type of humor.

Jferr006 03-08-2013 02:08 PM

I just need to check bottle of Pinot off the list and then it can be the weekend.

GH85Carrera 03-08-2013 02:20 PM

It is the weekend for me. I am gonna make like a baby and head out.

porsche4life 03-08-2013 02:41 PM

My coworker and I took some customers, including my dad, on a guided striper fishing trip today on lake Texoma. We all had good success by the end of the trip, but as the pictures show, early in the day my coworkers fiancé thoroughly kicked our ass with the big fish... But.....

In the end I won! ;). On the last cast of the day, I hooked up a big one, and it was the biggest all day at over 12lbs! A bass that size puts up a fight!

Sid, that looks like some good eating. It is a good thing you were there to whip the chick. ;)
