This makes it even harder. I am not geeky enough for the geeky engineers, not sporty enough for the jocks, not cool enough for the non-engineer ladies, which leaves me hanging out with Porsche people and talking with you lot on Pelican. ![]() LOL. I met a nice girl here who is very pretty and an engineer, but I realized she could be described as above in terms of looks and principles. (My mom is not an engineer, though).

Janet, what is your degree in? Mechanical?
Did any of you engineers here do FSAE at your university?

My degree is in IT. I started in ME but, realized pretty quickly I didn't want to be an engineer. I really like design technology though, so thats what i do.
We had FSAE at ODU. I actually tried to join but, it was a real pain in the ass plus I was havign more fun going out and partying.

Didn't do FSAE. I had a real job while I was in school. No time to play.

Doing FSAE this year has reinforced my love of engineering. I sort of wish I had started earlier, but it was a lot of work and everyone who is dedicated to the team ends up with a terrible GPA because they blow off classes. But I have learned so much more this year than in my classes. Actually trying to build the crazy crap I come up with has improved my design skills a lot.
The hours are usually very long, but I find that if I am away for more than a couple days I don't know what to do with myself. I need a big project like that. I like the feeling of accomplishment. It is nice to take a break and go hiking or biking on the weekends, though.

As a geezer I remember when Star Trek the original series came out. I loved it. I have always been into Science Fiction. Star Trek is not great Science fiction but it was all there was.
Every kid wanted a communicator and a phaser. It boggles my mind to think the flip phone has come and gone. Why have just a two way radio only? I can make video phones calls and all the other things a smart phone can do. A Star Trek communicator is outdated! ![]() Everyone thought an automatic door was silly and would never happen. Now every store has automatic doors. They don't make the cool shoosh noise like in Star Trek, but they open automatically! And no one pays them any attention.

). He had some great stories, but his degree was in Industrial Technology since it was easier to get into than Mechanical Engineering. He said they used to call it IT for short but they can't anymore.
