had the car serviced just before the independence day weekend.
It blew smoke everywhere and was running like a dog, looked at the receipt they had put 13.5 quarts of oil in. After a chat with Rick, and worked out what was needed, hadn't driven it again, until I took the oil out, today. She is now sitting at about 3/4 inch below the full line at full warmed up engine temp. This is how much we took out! Wasn't easy........................... lots of mess and swearing, wish I had a hoist or a set of ramps here. On the Christmas list.

Besides way too much oil what type of oil was it ? You need Brad Penn or something for flat tappet cams.

No it would be something like Elly Mae Clampet. Several horses, lamas, sheep, goats and such. My wife has always wanted a place big enough to have critters. It is just about 1.5 mil out of our price range.
The place is still taxed as a farmland.

well he was supposed to know Porsche cars, he didn't say on the invoice what type of oil it is.
I have got to hope its the proper oil. Just too much. I think he looked on how much oil the 3.2 takes, but didn't take into account that at the oil change it only need 10-10.5 depending on how well it was drained, and hot it is.

Find out exactly what oil he used and find out if it is appropriate for flat tappet cam engines.

Phew. I mowed the yard this afternoon. The heat index was over 102. Some moronic, idiotic, really stupid person went and fertilized the yard last week so it was real thick and green. next week it will be even worse.
The weather forecast is amazing. It is supposed to rain tomorrow and the high may not break 80!

Just don't think a deer hitting a car, bicycle, or walking would have near the personal physical impact of being hit by a deer while cruising on a motorcycle, helmet and all.
Have seen a Great Dane hit and run broad side into and total a brand new 1976 Toyota Corolla a friend of mine in HS had just gotten. He was going 20mph in the school zone right in front of the school. it was freakishly hilarious.

I use Swepco but I will change to Brad Penn because there is a local wholesaler now. And yes any flat tappet engine needs it. I use it in my El Camino. Check out the monster oil thread in the Technical section. I will search for it.

Any oil that the EPA hasn't sucked the Zinc or ZDDP out of. Most are required to say for off road use only. The Zinc or ZDDP is what lubricates the tappet to cam. Have never heard of camshafts breaking much until a year or two after the EPA quietly made manufactures remove the zinc for better emissions. Then all of the sudden 5 people I know had cam failure within 6 months.

my point is that i've been seriously injured in traffic accidents while walking, bicycling, driving a car, and riding motorcycle. the bicycle was arguably the worst. crap happens. anecdotally, my friend's father used to buy totalled cars to rebuild and sell. he bought a 911 that hit a deer. i am sure that they were traveling at an uber high rate of speed, but, long story cut short: the deer went through the windshield and removed the driver and his spouse's heads, more or less. People get so political about the brand of oil they use. Back in the mid 90's my mechanic said you could change oils and brands to something different every oil change and it would make no difference. Then later he told me he was seeing a lot of 911s with problems caused by bad oil that were using Castrol. At that time I was running Pennzoil Longlife 15w40 in my 944Turbo. He also said I could run synthetic like Mobile 1, but would just be pouring money down the drain, literal, especially if I observed the recommended 3000 mile oil change on the 951.
I currently use and have been using Royal Purple HPC 20w50 in my GTS. It doesn't see the temps of the turbo like the 951 and oil changes are recommended at 7500 miles. When the cam gear broke off and I rebuilt the motor it all looked brand new including the hydralic lifters and cams. Put in a used set of hotter cams and kept the lifters. Been thinking of switching from Royal Purple to Amzoil as several 928 owner claim it's antifoaming keeps the idle oil pressure higher when hot due to less aeration. But it's awfully convenient the local OReilys parts store keeps the Royal Purple in stock.

VR1 did not hold up well in my 951. It got watery very quickly dropping idle oil pressure low enough to flash the low pressure light.

Brad Penn is what Lindsey Racing recommends and sells for 951s.
