Ripped the door panel on the Lotus apart....the drivers side speaker wasn't working so I was going to replace....got the old one out and saw that the damn wires weren't hooked up....made the proper connections and it all worked beautifully.....if only it weren't an all day job to get the stupid panel off......800 little bolts in absolutely bizarre locations...

Had a nacho day at work one time. Boss brought in a gallon jar of jalapeņos. We used the oven for heat treating turned way down to make the nachos. He ate nachos with jalapeņos on em all day long. The next day you could hear him screaming. He swore he would never eat another jalapeņo.

Love hot spicy foods. I use the Ying Yang philosophy of balance. When eating something hot and spicy balance it by eating some ice cream. Ying Yang, Hot Cold. It makes the Ice Cream taste better, neutralizes the burning mouth, cools the sweat, AND neutralizes the after burner effects. Works for me.

Had to adjust the door handle on the Rover. It stopped opening the door. Required removing absolutely everything on and in the door except the door handle itself to adjust. And that was following the factory shop manual instructions. British engineering, make it so it has to be adjusted but not accessible to actually adjust it. What I don't understand is how 20 year old brittle plastic clips are supposed to be removed without breaking them, even when using the clip removal tool.

Dude, I can't remove the plastic trim clips in the 10 year old rover without breaking them. And of course, rover uses entirely unique trim clips.....
The worst part on the lotus is trying to remove and replace the little handle escutcheon without cracking it....stupid thing is really thin.

Just makes me appreciate my old Series Landy...


I know a guy who just had a top end rebuild done on his....he paid the shop 10 hours of labor...ran him around $1200.....I almost died laughing....told him I'd have done it for beer and cigars and we could have swapped in a new Carb and electronic ignition to replace the point/condensor and he'd have saved about $800.....When I did the top end of mine it took about 3 hours....pretty sure I could do it in 2 now.

Welp, I galloped into Gallop, NM.

Another 900 mile day in the books. When I left Monterey it was 54 degrees. Just outside of Needles, Ca. It was 108. It was so hot I could feel the heat coming through the instruments and the door panels. The AC struggled but I never got warm. As soon as I got to going up in elevation and it dropped to just 95 it was so cold I had to turn the temp UP. Thank you Charlie Griffith.

Just don't like working on cars. End up breaking two or three things getting to the part that needs fixed, then the OCD kicks in and I get this overwhelming desire to spend a week cleaning and polishing everything in sight. Who cleans the back side of parking lights that you can't even see due to the fender liners? Well, unless you have it spart every 20 years or so to replace the bulb.

This part of the country has some cool scenery. Like the backdrops in the movie cars. I can't take a good picture while cruising at 75 MPH (the legal limit) but here is one area that is cool.



The buttes and cap rock are cool looking.

That is a neat drive glen. The winds and snow can suck azz big time through there though! Spent the night in Gallup in March and it was 40mph wind all night.

I just checked I am 699 miles from home. I am gonna round that up to an even 700. It will be more that that with pee breaks and gas breaks. I do want to stop at the continental divide.

When driving back and forth from OKC to Atlanta use to get and listen to unabridged books on tape. If it was a good book would find myself wanting the gas to go in quicker and rush the stops so I could get back to the book.

Also get cups of ice instead of drinks to keep from getting thirsty and reduce the frequency of pee stops so they coincide with gas stops.

When driving back from wild weekends in Dallas late on a Sunday nights, sometimes early Monday mornings found gnawing on beef jerky does wonders to rouse a drowsy driver. Much much better than caffeine and/or cold air.
