Hey Dave from SLO, I have a question.

My wife has a Canon T3i and I put it on the tripod with a 300mm lens and the mirror up to take some pictures of the moon a while ago. I put a 2 second delay on since I don't have a remote shutter release and after a few tries with the exposure time and ISO I got some decent pictures except the edges of the moon are all jagged. The rest is sharp. Any thoughts on how to fix that?

Use the timer function for taking a picture?

RKDinOKC 09-03-2014 11:54 AM

Get a Celestron to mount the camera on so the camera can track the movement of the moon for those long exposures.

My dog is officially spoiled rotten. Gave her a plate with the last bite of a cheeseburger, a few fries, and a spoon of baked beans. She ate everything except the beans. My other dog would eat anything except for pickles.

Long moon exposures can be dangerous

I do use the timer. 2 seconds after I push the button it takes the picture. Maybe 2 seconds isn't enough, but the moon is very sharp, it is just the high contrast area around the edges that is an issue. The exposure isn't that long that I need the mount to follow it, I would think the image would be off uniformly if so. I could be entirely wrong about all that too.

Our old lab would eat a burger and spit the pickles out but she loved jalapeno poppers. Onions are bad for dogs.

I wondered when you would join Jeff would join, but you used our english.

The moon does not need a long exposure. It is lit by the sun. To expose for the full moon and get surface detail the exposure of 1/200th of a second at F8 with ISO 100. If you want the stars, then you need a long exposure but the moon will be a glowing orb.

Well, her camera needs a little more time than that. I use the timer because I don't want it to shake when it takes the picture. Maybe I will post a pic later this week when my computer is back up.

Morning ladies and gents

My photography skills consist of point and shoot (a bit like sex), I'm no help with your moon shot.

Our son was told he had to wear pants out in public, and no, it doesn't count if they are on your head.

Jeff, any relation?

Porsche-poor 09-03-2014 02:16 PM

tie as a head band?

flipper35 09-03-2014 02:23 PM

Who knows what the though process is there. He also grabbed a pair of gloves to go to the bathroom with so he didn't have to wash his hands to save time to keep playing. He says he shouldn't have to go to bed at night because he is nocturnal. He thinks front wheel drive cars are useless because they can't power slide.
