My dad said when he was a kid he would often wake up in the morning and see frost on his bed. He would have to get up and make a fire to heat the house and thaw out the pitcher of water that was frozen just to have a drink of water.

I really like my thermostat that is all automatic and modern.

Glen, I have a barrel and a pile of firewood just off the porch for lighting fires and roasting marshmallows! I'm not too bad at building a fire the old fashioned way!

Its totally not to code, but neither is the non gfi in the garage either. I will have to swap them out before we sell the house... Easy enough to fix though. There isn't a single GFI on my parents place, and its still fine.

Sid, I figure an Eagle Scout could start a fire the old fashioned way.

Yea, it is Friday!

Morning Y'all,
Well had a simply fantastic morning. I woke up to find the internet was clipped in the office because Beth payed the bill early. Seems to be fairly simple to fix.......................not. They had me doing all the usual reboot crapola and then finally got disconnected from the paki trying to tick me off. (he did a great job at that btw)
Finally got someone on the line with a few active brain cells who got me up and running. Worst part is I use a microcell for my phone here since AT&T blows where I live, and that doesn't work without the internet.
Yeah I like coffee, have I mentioned that before?

I will add my internet is actually much faster now, I have a feeling a hard reset of my modem is going to be happening more often, I also like the new IP number

I downloaded the upgrade to Quicken the other evening. It was 138 MB and it was download in just a few seconds. It was just amazing and my internet can be twice as fast if I was willing to spend the money for a new modem.

It is just so astonishing to see it download that fast. I so remember buying a 300 baud modem that was not even an autodial modem for $600. No graphics in those days at all. I could read the text as fast (or slow) as it streamed down. I was supposed to call AT&T and tell them I was using a modem. I was a scofflaw and never did because they would charge me a commercial rate for the phone line. That was the days when AT&T owned everything on the system including all the telephones. No one owned their own phone.

My first 14,400K modem was just a screamer and only cost me $700 but it was the Courier US Robotics dual standard to run my BBS.

I am limited as to what I can do simply because I only have a ten meg dsl line. It's fast enough for me, and that is really all I car about

We just switched from a 3.5Mbs unreliable ISP to a 12Mbs that everyone we talked to says is pretty reliable. We added a land-line as well for emergencies, no long distance, for not much more per month. With our our old provider we were down before Thanksgiving and hadn't had a solid connection back when we switched on Tuesday.

I have a business cable connection that is 20Mbs down, 5Mbps up and 10 fixed IP Addresses. According to speed tests my iPhone on Verizon LTE wifi turned off is also 20Mps down, 5Mbps up.

Remember my old 300 baud modem that I had to type in the AT then D and the number to reach BBSs. It was an Apple modem. If you typed ET instead of AT for the attention command, it would reply with PHONE HOME. Absolutely Minutes of Hilarity. Also when I put up my first Internet server in 1991, they were Apple Servers. If you did not have service running, like ftp or web or shell, etc if someone tried to use command line to access the server instead of not responding like other servers the Apple servers would answer "Service Not Available" But in Klingon.

My cable connection is 20 Mbs down now. They say I can get to 40 Mbs with a new modem. I may have to do that upgrade if Mrs Carrera streams a movie while I am streaming a movie in my home office. So far we have never had an issue. It is just crazy fast.

You have plenty for streaming two movies on Netflix or Amazon Prime.

Really the only time I ever had an issue was when I had a house full of kids. A couple of game stations on line half a dozen phones a a couple of computers we would have rolling blackouts for units. Since it is just Beth and I now, it's all good (and quiet)

'ning all.

Just had a friend over for a chat, baked beans on toast and a few reds.

She has been diagnosed with throat cancer, has had a large tumour out of her throat, got a scar that loooks like someone tried to slit her throat, a few lyumph nodes, and one tonsil which is apparently where it all started. She needed to have a laugh and a chat . She is unmarried and lives alone, and just needed to chat. feel so bad for her, she starts radiation therapy on Monday, every afternoon for the next 8 weeks, what a time of year for that sheeet.

Her Mum is coming over from Oz on the 22nd to be with her when she starts to feel like sheet, they told her that the first two to three weeks she will feel okay, I wonder what they define as feeling okay, might not be too bad physcially, but the emotional stress is starting to show.

She went in about 6 months ago with a swelling on her neck and the specialist said it was just a fatty tumour, no problem, she could put off surgery for months, so she did, then they go in to take it out and 5 hours of surgery later she looks like a Columbian drug lord tried to slit her throat, we were all shocked at work, at the scar, and she didn't tell us and a few days later she goes in to have a tonsil out, that's when we all started with the wtf is going on, you can't keep this to yourself, you don't need to keep this to yourself, you need to talk about what is going on, you don't have anyone else here, you can share what is happening, so all of us old Mums and guys at work have been looking after her emotional state since we found out. So tough, she is a wonderful kid, well young lady, she is a RAAFie Flight Sergeant, lovely girl, been to the sandpit and is a great kid. This sheet is not fair.

Today also had another friend who was in surgery having a breast removed, has been going through Chemo for the last3 months, jeez I feel blessed that I am healthy, and all of my loved ones are healthy.

Oh well enough doom and gloom.

Any time I read of hear the C word...have to mention...Triple dose Amway's Nutrilite Double XX daily vitamins. Made my brothers prostate cancer disappear in 3 months, and my Mom's breast lumps go away between mammograms.. And most recently my housekeeper's daughter's brain cancer seems to have somehow dissolved in 6 months. Have heard of others. It seems to give their bodies what ever it needed to get rid of the cancer and other lumps that were not supposed to be there. Normal dose is 3 tablets twice a day. Double or Triple that.

We have had foggy and overcast weather all week. A whopping .15 of an inch grand total after a week. It was 60 degrees yesterday but still cloudy and grey.

We are off to the PCA breakfast shortly.

I bailed on cars and coffee this morning. Not a fan of going in the rain, and the chowder heads that merged the event with another car club decided to have anew meeting place. In an open air retail shopping center, the largest one in Charlottesville just a couple of weeks before Christmas, and not too far from all the U.Va. sports arenas.
Yeah I stayed home
