Richard, your vision might get good enough to realize you don't actually look that much like George Clooney. ;)
So you're sayin I'm gonna have to start using my own driver's license?
Oh boy, I get to be on call this weekend. Moving all our email from our current 365 host to our on-site server.
So far, I don't see this going well. |
That company that had the long answering machine messages finally got back to me. They had two prints that we needed mounted and laminated with dry erase laminate. They called back and they decided they are afraid of the job. He said they even had the technical representative for the equipment there and they decided it was too risky and they would likely ruin the prints.
They normally print their own images and laminate them but we printed this one because it is a photo of Downtown OKC at super high resolution. There are no pixels that a human can see without a high power magnifying glass and then you have to look real close. They can't print an image at that resolution with their giant printer. The image is 3.6 GB and we print it at 720x1440 PPI as a 44x50. We could make it a lot bigger but that is the space on the customer's wall. So after having the job for a week they call and say they don't want to try and they will bring the prints back to us. The guy that I used to work with and who normally does it for us was out of town so we we tried plan B. He is back in tow and we are back to plan A. Our client is not happy with the delay but there is nothing we can do but wait. |
argh line at the DMV is out the door. No thanks I'll come back.
The only reason we have to got to the DMV around here is for a new driver getting a license or if an existing license has expired. If we are smart enough to renew before expiration we can go to a "tag agent" and get a renewal. For tags the same tag agent is quick and easy if you got to the right ones. Some busy agents have a line all the time. Just go to a different one and you are in and out in minutes.
Every other one here you have to go in person. Last renewal I did online.

Talked to the Server Manager in IT over lunch about the Exchange move this weekend. He told me there was a long IT managers meeting this morning to make plans for what IT was going to do about the Layoffs and the increased workload for everyone else. Said they were relieved because the meeting started with the announcement that none of the attending IT managers were being laid off. Also said the second topic was ME. Said the only reason I wasn't included in the meeting was I don't have employees or responsibilities that are going to be effected by the layoffs. They were impressed because even with increased workload and responsibilities they have given me to date I was the only one in IT who hasn't required more manpower or resources to get everything completed I was asked. Said I was a good example of how they wanted IT projects and responsibilities managed. And because of that, they were going to just let me keep doing the good job I was doing and not add any more for me to do. Said that is almost word for word what the Vice President in charge of the meeting said.
My real secret is no meetings to waste my time and get too many bad ideas to have to mull thru. But I ain't gonna relax until the time of layoffs has passed and the dust has settled. |
Usually, I go to a tag office 3 miles from my house at around 3PM and rarely have to wait for anyone.
They are talking about making our driver's licenses and renewals cost more so they can go to IDs that can also be used for travel ID anywhere in the US. Whatever that entails. |
The CA DMV lets you schedule an appointment.
Heading back to the USA in the morning.
Hope you don't have any disconcerting or unnecessary customs procedures.
Buy a zipper and tell everyone you are bringing back some Spanish Fly. |
Oh boy. Our new exchange hosts were going to leave us without an anti-spam anti-virus filter for 2 weeks. AAAAAAH!
Friend in TX scheduled an appointment, then still got queued in order of when he arrived and checked in and had to wait an hour and a half.
Looks like I am at least be going to have a job the next 2 weeks of our company emails getting unblacklisted because they are not letting me set the temporary on-site server up properly for email sending. "Because we are only going to be using it a couple of weeks." It only takes a day to get blacklisted I assure you, and more than that to get off.
Oh yeah... Thanks to you guys for putting up with my gritching and moaning. I try to just be happy I have a good paying job but it gets frustrating when you how thing should be done to keep problems from happening then having to not only fix those problems but go back and do it the way it was supposed to be done in the first place.
gritching and moaning nahhhh you just need coffee
Oh boy, convinced my boss to let me use the same hosted anti-spam service as my zipbang email server uses while we are are on temporarily on our on-site server until we move to the now hosted exchange service. We are only supposed to be on the on-site serve 2 weeks and the anti-spam service has a 30 day free trial.
Hopefull they well see just how well it works and we can go to it instead of microsofts sorry filter and anti-phishing training that is going to cost twice as much. Got zero fasle positives 2 spam in quarantine and everything else was auto-rejected today. On my company email I got 4 spams in my inbox and 16 in my spam folder using microsofts spam filter. |
Well the fan is all warmed up and the visqueen and been put all over everything. Ready for the chips to fall, bring in the cow.
