Flagstaff is a great stop. Nice and cool, and some great college town restaurants. The horrible part of the trip is from the border of California to the coast. The that is the armpit of the state or at least one of them. OKC to flagstaff is not bad, just long and boring.

GH85Carrera 03-30-2015 08:07 PM

Richard, get out to Flagstaff and spend a week. There is a ton of great stuff to see in that area. Easy day drive to the Grand Canyon and back, Indian ruins, a volcano, painted desert, petrified desert and more. Oak creek canyon is a fun drive and real pretty.

porsche4life 03-30-2015 08:43 PM

Richard its interesting if you have never seen it. The road is straight and smooth and conducive to your driving style! ;). Once you get to Holbrook head south into the mountains and catch some awesome roads!

Been to Gallop couple times, and out to Orange a couple. Then we took train, then we flewed. Been from OKC to each coast by train, plane and automobile.

First time I went to Gallop I was 2. My first Niece was born in Gallop day before my 2nd birthday. I remember being very embarrassed because I had to change to my clothes from my pajamas in the back seat driving somewhere in Texas.

Good morning folks.

We made it through Monday. I am still dealing with the lady that I guess can't type. I send her an email and a simple question and she calls me back and then make me have to scribble down the location of the spot to call out on the map. I suck as a typist but I could type it out way faster than a phone call. Oh well, that is my paycheck continues to appear in my bank account.

Jim Richards 03-31-2015 05:25 AM

Only four more Mondays until it's Saturday.

GH85Carrera 03-31-2015 06:23 AM

Dude, your calendar is messed up. Tomorrow is hump day and starts the downhill slide towards the weekend. Monday is over.

Good Morning Travelers

Dudes, the feelgood-o-meter is running high right now.

I just committed a huge sin in the eyes of flippers and money grubbers...but pulled a huge solid for a stranger who is a true Porsche enthusiast.

Story:
My uncle owns a large used car dealership, only deals in high end late model cars, but has personal special interest in vintage american muscle...so he has no clue about the Porsche scene. Excitedly calls me the other day about an '83 coupe, dark charcoal (excellent orig color respray) 2nd/3rd owner, 113k, dutifully maintained by Auto Assoc here in CT (great shop if you've not heard of them)...

This 69y/o uninformed seller is only selling because he's only put 12k on it in 14/15years...he want's $18.500.

So, I talked to Mrs Saucy, told her what i was going to do and if she was comfortable with me passing on the $ that's available. She told me with the new baby coming, go for the do good.

I just spent 30mins on the phone with this guy informing him of what his car is actually worth. He told me he heard something about the values changing but doesn't own a computer but reads car magazines. In the end he told me the I "was a God send" and we're scheduled to meet-up, go through the car, and write an ad which I'll post in the FS here for starters.

Flippers be haters but if the tables were turned I would hope someone would help me instead of take me.

I hope this works out for this guy as he's a great dude.

Jim Richards 03-31-2015 07:15 AM

¡Hola, Richard!

SauCy, you're a good guy.

GH85Carrera 03-31-2015 08:32 AM

Yea, screw the flippers. You did a solid good thing for the owner. Fair market value is a self explanatory term. Lots of shady folks would happily cheat someone out of the fair market value of a car.

ckelly78z 03-31-2015 08:39 AM

Good for you, and the guy who got your help, he would have been happy with that price and never known differently. Maybe he'll send you a bottle of wine and a thanks card.

Yea seriously. My uncle also had a line on an '86 930 Minerva blue, 56k orig miles, 2nd owner, guy got in a bad accident and has been in a wheelchair since 2 years after he bought it...was considering selling to my uncle at $25k....

I encouraged the seller to do some research...he couldn't dispose of the 4-sell sign fast enough!

The best part about the guy I'm dealing with...he's selling his 911 because it requires "too much love", which is also why he shys away from taking it out. He's an old street racer, currently has 3 Mustang GTs, one a Coyote, and he told me "you can just beat the ischt out of those mustangs, change the oil, and do it again. The Porsche nonsense with valve adjusting and over 10 quarts of oil, and really it's only as fast a a family Subaru."

Guy had me in stitches.

flipper35 03-31-2015 08:46 AM

Just for clarification, my screen name comes from my last name and dad's race number and not from my profession.

Wayne, I saw Elvis before my wife was born.

Today is my hump day and tomorrow is my Friday.

Jeff, I remember a challenge form the early 80s in the Peterson PV4WD magazine where they all decided that their truck could go the furthest with nobody driving so the dropped them in gear and set them free in the desert. I don't remember what won but I think it was an early Toyota Land Cruiser. With your road, you could almost do the same thing but behind the wheel.

Joe owning a German car, even for a short time, is about as wrong as playing Breadfan on a harpsichord.

Wake up!

I just keep falling asleep this afternoon.

Rick V 03-31-2015 03:18 PM

Evening Y'all
Had a guy roll into the shop yesterday with a car overheating and he cooked it and was wondering about putting massive amounts of stop leak in it. I told him mechanic in a can is never a good option.
He tells me that I have no idea what I was talking about and the boss told him we would pull the head and if it was warped or cracked the owner would pay for the repair and it if was not the boss would eat it. (okay I think the boss is trying to see if I really am as good as I told him I was)
Yeah the head was warped and cracked. Looks like Mr. Smarty pants customer is going to get himself a big bill for the new head I installed.
I still hate my job, but at least I am not having to fight for respect
