Quote:
Back when I was a kid and living on base we rode our bikes everywhere. The typical Air Force private that was too stupid to do any other job was given a patrol vehicle and made a AP (Air Patrolman) if they were too stupid for that they were made a cook, and if too stupid for that an orderly at the hospital. The base theater was across the base from our quarters and they did not allow kids to leave bikes at the theater so we had to walk. Mom and dad were cruel and mean and would not drive us the mile to the theater. They gave us the 50 cents for the ticket and some popcorn and a soda but were too mean to drive us. Several of he kids in our neighborhood would walk together. We figured out if 4 or 5 boys point at the AP and start running they would come over and take us to the AP station. It was just a very lucky coincidence that it was right next door to the movie theater. They would walk us in the station and the Sargent behind the desk would stop the cop and say "let me guess, they were running for no reason" and of course all the boys would grin. The Sargent of course knew all we wanted was a ride to the theater. They did not want to do paperwork on a bunch of officer's kids that had done nothing at all but run. We always had to walk home. They fell for it dozens of times.

The gall of your parents making you walk.
I know because I had to walk to school everyday it was above 0* F and it was about a mile.

And likely uphill both ways!
Yea, my parents were really mean. I walked to school or rode a bike or rode the bus in high school. Even in the first grade I walked to school. My brother was in 3rd grade and we walked what I remembered as a mile or so. I used Google Earth and looked up our old house in Pearl City, HI and the grade school. It is about 3 blocks. I do remember a huge honeysuckle bush that we stopped and grazed at all the time. I walked to grade school in shorts. No shirt, no shoes. One Easter we got dressed up to go to church. I did not have a single pair of shoes that would fit. I had to wear flip flops to church. Of course my mom could buy all the shoes in the store and I would not have worn them on a day to day basis. My feet were like elephant hide.

K-12 was 3 blocks away. Walked K thru 3, then rode my bike 4 thru 6. You had to pass a bike safety test that included riding thru different courses. I got 4th in the state, prize was $20 to spend at the local bike shop. 7 and 8 was bussed 7 miles away. HS was 1 mile away. Walked in 9. 10 thru 11 rode with upperclassman friends. 12 drove myself.
Most everything was within a mile, grocery store, dime store, hobby shop, 7-11, hardware store, library branch, post office. Two pools were within the mile, but wasn't allowed to ride bike there. Don't know why. When I got older it was 11 miles to ride around the nearest lake.

When I was in first grade they put me in Special Ed for half a day. When we started reading books that had paragraphs and was asked to read, I read the first line in the book, then made up my own story that went along with what was in the book instead of going to the next line. 1st Grade teacher thought I couldn't read or something even though I got perfect grades on spelling and vocabulary words. The Special Ed teacher quickly discovered I could read better than most and just liked my stories better than what they had us reading.

As a self confessed beer lover I have never even once in my life stooped to drinking green beer. I can't think of any possible reason to drink some crummy beer with a crap load of green dye in it. I will pass yet again this year. I don't understand St Paddy day or the 5th of mayonnaise drink fest on May 5th. I have long ago had some excess consumption of alcohol on News Years Eve. I realized how stupid that was in the previous millennium. I still very much enjoy some frosty wheat pops but I have not had a hangover in so long I can't remember. Hangovers are just something I avoid much like tattoos and piercing. Get off my lawn!
Good Thursday morning folks.

I prolly drink too much to be good for me, but who give a rats arse? Certainly not me, I enjoy it enough to put up with a few seedy mornings. I must be getting older as the death warmed up days are few and far between (thankfully).
Still, I'm not going to work tomorrow as they can go get fcuked. And I will have a few celebratory Guinness in the arvo.

The old man founder of the company I work for once told me...If you drink alcohol before you are 40, you are foolish. If you don't drink alcohol after your are 40, you are foolish.
That subject came up when I smelled alcohol strongly on his breath while doing some product photography with him. Said it that was the recommendation by his doctor and he always took a couple of shots every day since he was over 40. He lived to be 97 years old. After that instead of occasionally smelling alcohol, I smelled chocolate. I know it was an issue with him as his wife passed from complications due to her alcoholism.

The man that started this company in 1947 had a snort every night before bed. In his words he took "early retirement at age 92" and lived to be 98. He would drink a beer or two at a restaurant and keep good Bourbon at home.

My Granddad on my Dad's side always had a jug of moonshine. Every morning as he sat up in bed he would take a snort. Every night before he crawled under the covers he would take another. He lived to be 92.
And I know it was moonshine too. Distinctly remember riding the the car with Dad and Granddad when I was very young. We were out driving in the country around the small town in Oklahoma. We stopped and Granddad put a jar with some cash in it in a stump near the side of the road. We left driving around talking about the farms and who lived there and who used to live there. After a little while we drove back by the stump. Granddad got the jar now full of clear liquid. Granddad said it was his stump water. My Grandmother had passed before I was born. They used to live on and run a farm outside of town (where my Dad grew up). By the time I came along Granddad lived in a small little cottage type house in town with a flagstone drive, detached single car garage, and a white picket fence. Surrounding the fence and house were flower beds with all kinds of flowers and shrubs. His lawn and gardens were always ideally immaculate. He owned and ran the towns laundromat. He had a black maid that came in and cooked and cleaned for him.

Need to change the oil in the escape, and I really don't want to. Hate using jack stands and the escape is too tall to use my lift. Really thinking about having the stealership do it. Want them to check out the squeaky fan under warranty anyways... Should I just have them do the change and fan all at the same time?

Yep, I have Dumonts do my oil changes. Usually because there is some other naggy thing for them to address, but also for what little labor they charge for doing the change I don't have to worry about carting the used oil off to the parts store for disposal. Don't even still think I have the container I used to drain the oil into to cart of for disposal.
Found out the hard way those nifty oil drain pan/containers aren't nearly as neat and clean to use as you might think! At least not for me. Though I never actually changed the oil on the Rover. There was enough room under it could have just used a creaper. Again there was alwasy something that needed done that it made sense to just add a oil change. I did however flush and fill the brake fluid which I put it on jack stands so I could bleed all four corners sans wheels. The old fluid looked so bad it was more sludge than fluid.

I need to do an oil change on the El Camino this weekend. After 300K miles and doing a change every 3K miles this should be my 99th oil change since I bought it.
I am so spoiled with my lift. I can jack it up and I always find some little thing to tinker with. I always do a lube job on all the grease fittings. I look at the brakes and look for any leaks and inspect the hoses. I check the front end and steering components. I can't blame the previous owner for much after 24.5 years.
