Welcome back!
Now that your back Jim may have to take a break until he learns to post pics of crappy weather for the pre-breakfast walk! |
There, I washed, claybarred, and waxed the wifemobile. Good for a couple more months.
|
That might be my Sunday project. Hers takes a while.

Know a couple of car detailers that no longer really detail cars. It's now called paint restoration and costs a lot more even though they spend about the same amount of time on the cars. Both of them the cars they do are winning car shows.
The stuff they use is different. They do the claybar thing, but the polish step is a lot different. They use different grits of cleaner (now called polish) and pads like you would us grits of sand paper wet sanding. Then instead of waxing they use a protective coating, then wax that. Kinda like a long time ago I had a Mother's system, You started with the wash, then claybar, then cleaner, then polish, then wax. Then if you really wanted it shiny the was a pure carnuba, but the pure carnuba only lasted about a month before it evaporated off the car. The difference it was used to be a one step cleaner (that wasn't very good) is now polishing the paint and uses cleaners that are several different grits and is used with paint depth gauges before you start with the protective stuff, that used to be called polish. I've seen some pretty amazing results from some pretty faded out paint jobs. Kinda interesting to me because I used to wax cars when I was a teen, it was before clear coat. I had a cleaner stuff that did wonders. There was only one car I wasn't able to clean up and Mercedes ended up repainting it. When couldn't get the old cleaner stuff any more couldn't find anything like it. Zymol cleaner worked at first, then it changed and quit working very well. There was also some stuff I found that looked, smelled, and worked like the original cleaner stuff, but only found it once. Lately there was some cleaner stuff from Zaino, but it still doesn't work like the old cleaner. |
and then you drive it home and get it dirty again......
|
It won't win any awards but looks as good as most new vehicles but is 9 years old.

the wife will be happy. That's a winner!

My wife is sick with a cold so I plan to avoid her still. I do not need to wash her car!!!!

I am a honey-do machine since retirement. My list gets longer every day. Maybe I made a mistake...
Naaah! |
Gotta pace yourself Jim!
One from her list, 2 from yours. |
My boss in CA used the Zaino Brothers stuff when he sold his car. Was a huge difference than just wash, clean and wax. This was in 2000 or so.

She might not go for that ratio, Wayne!

Used Zaino since my white 944 Turbo. After doing the guards red 928 GT had the local detail guy do it. He got it so much more shiny I got pulled over twice the next morning driving downtown and within 3 miles of each other. I wasn't doing anything wrong, the cops just couldn't resist and told me watch myself. Still kept using Zaino because though it was not as shiney as the detail guys job, it lasted much longer.
Kept using zaino until I got the darker blue 94 GTS. It showed a lot more imperfections. At the car wash it would get a film on the car that made swirls and required the Zaino Cleaner and Wax to get rid of. Even wiping the dust of with a car duster makes scratches. Washed it at home with Zaino soap and still got swirls but not as bad. The Zaino itself also got tiny scratches on it. Even using their special wash mits and drying towels. Again had to do the Zaino Cleaner/Wax to get rid of them and make it look good again. Looked fantastic when done, but decided I really don't like having to re-wax the car every time it needs washed. Had the detail guy do all that fancy stuff on the Cayenne. It's been a year and just using the drive thru car wash it still looks really good. Says he uses different coating and wax based on the car make. |
