If I go past "the look" and a "stop it," she calls me a name something like "creep" or some made up name.

My wife's ornery G-ma is moving from her apartment to assisted living where it is already furnished. Nobody wants to deal with her borderline hoarder house, so my FIL is getting "2 men and a truck" to get her moved.....YEA !

I kept a LOT of my Mom's stuff around even though my sisters wanted to get rid of it. Having her stuff around made a big positive difference in her dementia. If they would come in and get rid of something Mom wouldn't know what they took, but missed something, got depressed about it, slept more, and lost more memories/abilities. I just couldn't make them understand that.

Hope she doesn't have Alzheimers or dementia.

Now that she is gone and I can see again will be getting rid of her stuff. Just don't know whether to give it away to try to sell it.
They already threw all of her clothes away, I thought they should have been given to the salvation army, most were only a 5 or 6 years old.

It's always better to donate something than to toss it. Most people won't buy things from a garage sale, because they are used, but those clothes will find a home if given to the salvation army, or a mission.

Good morning all.

We have a a married couple arriving this afternoon to stay for the weekend. Since Mrs Carrera is retired she can entertain them during the day. The cool part is with them here our kitchen will be used for cooking food! With them here for the weekend my normal weekend thinks get shifted around. I went ahead and edged and mowed last night and then for extra fun I fertilized. When I got done with that we went to the grocery store to acquire some food to cook. We will be going out to eat some as well so I may have leftovers!

That is so much like my childhood. ^^^^

I used to cook to feed myself back in my single days.

Same here. My Mom cooked meals every night but Sunday. On that day my Dad would usually cook a traditional meal and we would all sit down around 3pm.

My wife and I have always tried to have family time during supper. Unless the kids are starving, we wait for her to get home to eat.

Mom always dressed up if leaving the house to go somewhere. Unlike nowadays when folks where jammies out in public.

Actually, if the kids ARE starving, I make them wait. It builds character.

Fast food wasn't on the menu growing up. Occasionally, my Dad would get a craving for real pizza on a Saturday and that was a treat.

If you didn't like was Mom had prepared, you went without.

Morning all. My mom was the cook and so was Grandma. We all miss g-ma's cooking. One could get fat just walking into the kitchen.

When i was growing up we rarely ate out. Very rarely. It was too expensive.
Two or three times a year we would go to Sirloin Stockade cause Dad really liked it.
If we had company we went out to eat maybe once while they were visiting.
We did eat out when traveling sometimes, but Mom usually packed sandwiches and we would strategicly stop and have dinner at someone's house. The exception being one of my Dad's brothers. We would stop by at dinner time and leave at bedtime and instead of inviting us to eat with them, they just wouldn't eat. Think my Dad did it for spite because they used to always stop unannounced to have dinner with us.

I remember having pizza just once.
Got burgers a couple of times but it was because we were out working somewhere.

Mom did the cooking unless it was deep fried fish or grilled (after we got a gas grill). Or pancakes, I always made the pancakes. Grandmother even gave me an egg wisk for me to make them better.

My Grandmother passed when I was 18. We visited her a lot, we only went out to eat with her 3 times that I can remember. The rest of the time it was home cooked.

Everyone raved about Grandma's chicken and home made egg noodles. Personally I couldn't tell the difference between hers and Mom's. One time Grandma ran out of yellow food coloring and the noodles came out really white looking. The only ones that would eat was Grandma, Me, Mom, and Dad, because Mom never bothered to put the food coloring in hers and they were white compared to Grandmas.

We used to have Dorito pie, it was Doritos with beef browned with chili seasoning, cheese, tomatoes, and onions. That was way before there was such a thing as nachos.

We did not eat out very often, especially when I was younger and dad was just a Captain not making much money. Since we moved all the time we would eat out more than many families of the era. Once we had moved in we did not go out much. Since dad was gone TDY all over the world on a regular basis he had enough eating out and really looked forward to home cooking.

We had one real simple rule, be at the table with your hands washed, face washed and ready to eat at 6:30, not 6:31 or later or you were gonna miss dinner.

This. We do this with our kids but now my mom will make supper when she is watching the kids and if they don't like it she makes them what they like. I tell her to stop doing that but she doesn't listen as all grammas do.
