Another strange customer story.

One client has a project we fly regularly. We produce a digital elevation model and a photo of the same area each time. The elevation model lets him measure all the volume changes from each flight. The bottom line is he only wants to pay for a one foot resolution elevation model. That is good enough for his needs. He got all bent out of shape when I sent him a file as a one foot resolution, he wants a 12 inch model. As far I know 12 inches and one foot is the same all over the USA. Maybe not in Canada or Europe but the project is in Oklahoma so 12 inches is one foot. 24 hours per day all year long. Whatever, we set the file up as inches and he is happy.

Porsche-poor 04-26-2017 10:57 AM

if he is putting it in CAD that would make a difference. He would have to scale by 1/12.

GH85Carrera 04-26-2017 11:10 AM

It is no big deal for us to produce the file as 12 inches or one foot. It is the same data, just the way he displays it. Since he does pay for it, we do it the way he wants it.

He is secretive about just what he does with the data, and we really truly can't possible care less. Just pay for the job and we will put it into whatever measure he wants,

In SoCal, it's very rare to spot a beach-walking whale. :D

We're at the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch. A bazillion flowers here. My wife is having a field day; I'm enjoying this picnic table with the thatched shade structure. :)

Yawn...

Morning all. I'm off to work to continue my battle with HR - trying to get an RDO re-credited as I have a certificate of sickness for that day. It's up there with pulling teeth.

Porsche-poor 04-26-2017 01:31 PM

go throw up on the HR dude desk.

RKDinOKC 04-26-2017 01:47 PM

When we had 300 employees there were 2 HR people and one of them handled benefits and we were self insured meaning the benefits person took care of all the medical bills etc. Now we have 500 employees and 8 HR people. Our benefits are now managed by other companies.

No, I have no reason to be bitter.

Porsche-poor 04-26-2017 03:01 PM

just play along it goes better.

RKDinOKC 04-26-2017 04:15 PM

&$$!!@@!! self-righteous %%$@@#!!!'s There, I feel better.

It all started when the took corporal punishment out of schools I tell ya.

I would never believe that four days before May in Oklahoma I would be working in the yard in the late afternoon and wearing a jacket. It is 49 degrees outside right now. It will be back in the 70s tomorrow but this is crazy. And it beats the hell outta 89 it was a couple of days ago out there.

GH85Carrera 04-27-2017 05:19 AM

Good chilly morning. It is 41 degrees here. Goofy Oklahoma weather.

One day is is is 89 the next the high is 50. Today is 41 and supposed to be back to 70 this afternoon. The wall project is progressing faster that Trumps wall. So far I think we have spent more as well. If someone tried to hire us to do it for them it would for sure cost billions. Well maybe millions, well, OK, 100 grand would do it. ;)

We almost have the bottom row done on the two sloping sides. Once the bottom row is done the rest will be a easy peasy. Well except for a 3,000 pounds of composted high quality soil called rich-mix. It is good stuff. Then digging more holes to put all the plants in that dirt. Then a big batch of mulch. then the drip irrigation sprinkler system. Golly this is fun.

If she is the professional gardener, does that make you the professional landscaper?

Learning to be more sensitive and trying to not make racial comments I refrained from making a comment about Mrs Carrera learning Japanese and Glen learning Spanish.

Had a new neighbor move in on the corner. He replaced his stockade fence that was falling down. Got a quote from the guy doing it. He wants only $400 to replace the stockade on the south side of the house with metal posts. Sounds like I can't afford to DIY. Replace all the other sides at various times since moving in.

Not long after moving in the neighborhood behind me replaced the stockade fence with stockade and brick posts. They put the new fence 2 foot inside their property so they would own it 100%. Did not have to pay a penny. When my brother moved into the neighborhood he put a gate in the fence so we could walk back and forth.

A new neighbor moved in North of me and he replaced the fence. He is a manager at Home Depot and said he got such a good deal he didn't want me to pitch in for halfsies.

Storm felled a tree in my neighbor to the West's yard and knocked down the stockage fence on that side. Her insurance paid for a new stockade fence on that side.

Several years ago I replaced gates on either side of the house. Put in with metal poles to better support the weight of the gates.

So the only thing left is the fence to the north. It's getting pretty bad. have redistributed staves a few times after one rotted out.

With the weather we are having Rick will be happy to be not living here. Kind of a slush falling from the sky.

We get to fix our retaining wall starting next Saturday so if you are free Glen, come on up with all that experience!

RKDinOKC 04-27-2017 07:15 AM

Shhhh...they didn't dock my pay.

GH85Carrera 04-27-2017 07:25 AM

Mrs Carrera is a Master Gardener, not a professional gardener. Well she will be in August when she graduates. She is still fulfilling the volunteer part of the degree.

Our rates START at 100K just for the initial consultation on wall building or sprinkler installs. Much like my wedding photography. I never did say I was never shooting another wedding I just raised my prices to 100K for the initial visit. So far everyone is just way too cheap to hire me dang it. Just send the check and I will book a flight. We do require a limo to pick us up at the airport by the way.

flipper35 04-27-2017 08:10 AM

Cool. Since you didn't specify what the 100k is we will pay you in calories! Steak, potatoes, corn on the cob, pie, cake, ice cream (home made), sorbet (home made as well), we have some local beer that everyone says is really good. I take their word for it, I don't drink beer.

Porsche-poor 04-27-2017 08:10 AM

morning all. PT done for the week now its time to work and relax.

flipper35 04-27-2017 08:11 AM

Those must be some good painkillers to be able to relax at work.

Glen, I will have to qualify that a bit. The beer comes AFTER the consult.
