It is 74 with 77% humidity outside and 72 and dry air in the garage. I had to stop for my lunch break and eat some of the bosses leftovers.

To get to the water pump the AC compressor has to be removed from position. It stays connected, just gotta move it out of the way to get to the bolts for power steering pump that is bolted to the water pump. Of course the alternator and all the brackets for it have to be removed completely.

One of the bolts on the power steering pump is hidden on the bottom so it is really handy to have a lift to get the car up and down to get to the 7,000 bolts that hold everything on. Well OK, my mom told me a million time not to exaggerate, it is lots of bolts. Some are 14, some are 15 a few 17s and some are friking 16 MM! Of course some are 7/16th and some are 5/8ths. A total mix of metric and SAE on the Elky. It was back in the 80s that most of the car is metric, but the engine is SAE, except for some of the accessories.

When I got the brackets off for the power steering pump I saw it was leaking more than I could accept. So I just got a replacement PS pump, and new hoses. It requires a pulley remover and installer special tool to do the pulley for the PS pump. I just happen to have them since I have BTDT before. The connection for the top of the power steering rack to the hose to the pump requires a 16MM Crow foot line wrench. Not something one finds in a normal tool collection. I chased down a Snap on truck and bout it years ago. Without that 16MM crowfoot line wrench you can't tighten up the high pressure line.

Just things that wear out more than once after 361,000 miles. Back to slaving for the man!

For the last 6 years I have paid my neices boys to mow my yard. They ask me and since they were family I let them mow instead of the neighbor boy. Whom was doing a good job. Well, the neices boy have gotten worse and worse. What they mow, what they pick up, etc. This past summer they have only mowed my yard 4 times, 4. And have let weeds and trees grow next to the stockade fence. If they don't want to mow my yard why don't they just tell me. I am sure there is a neighbor kid that would be happy to do it.

Stijn!!

Phew.

I have never ever even thought about being a professional mechanic. No one on the planet would want to pay me my rates. Dang I am SLOW! Today proved my thesis.

The biggest problem is all of my tools, ALL of them have the ability to cloak and transport themselves from where they should be to "how in the heck did it get there? I would never ever put a tool down there!" And where in the heck is that thing at? Even parts can vanish, and transport themselves in my garage. I can stand in one spot, and a tool will vanish, I go looking for 5 minutes for it and suddenly right there where I was working. It has to be stealth mode tools.

I stopped working at on the project at 7:45 CST. Everything is back together, and it looks good. I still have to tighten up all the accessories (PS pump, AC compressor, and alternator) and cinch everything down. Then fill up the antifreeze and PS fluid. For sure the PS pump slowed me up a lot. Getting the pulley off of the old pump was a chore. I had to resort to the impact wrench to get enough torque to get the puller to pull the pulley off. Going back on was easier, but still lots of grunting and cussing. The new PS hoses were a pain as they sold me generic Chevy hoses and I had to make em fit my needs.

So just a few more hours tomorrow and I will have the Elky back on the road. And then I can go fly in the million degree heat tomorrow afternoon.

Mertnin.

As long as you aren't off trying to play wet nurse. Unless, of course the "wet" part means beer.

Morning all

Four days of retirement training coming up. The missus and I are catching a flight to Melbourne today.

We'll spend Saturday arvo/evening watching a mate get married and drink copious amounts of his beer, and spend the rest of the time R&R-ing.

Yahoo! The Elky is back to road worthy. I hit the ignition at 10:15 AM and as always it fired right up, but the new and improved no leaking water pumps and power steering pump had no leaks and the water pump was actually pumping water. No that is if off and in a box, I can spin the main shaft and feel and hear it growling. It sounds like a rock grinder. What is weird is how it failed so suddenly with no real warning. I keep watch of the temp gauge all the time, and it was doing it's job perfectly and had no real leaks. Now I will run to the FLAPS and get my refund on the parts.

And if you know someone that needs a small block Chevy water pump replaced I will do it for $2,000 plus parts. But that is a limited time special offer. Prices likely to change which means go up.

Jeff, you seem to always be flying for retirement training. Does that mean you will fly all around the world when you retire for real?

Probably be cheaper at that point. I don't think Sharon would like it though.

Maybe he just likes to get out of Alice Springs and go to the coasts!

Oh boy.
We replaced all our VPN hardware.
Wouldn't have had to if they would have setup our company netowork as a 10.0.x.x network instead of a 192.168.x.x network.
The new Merki VPN routers are supposed to fix the fact that almost every home router in the world automatically assigns 192.168.x.x

Not mine. I set it up for the 10.0.X.X I don't even remember why. I still don;t what difference it makes for me.

I took the parts back for the core on the PS pump and the refund on the water pump. The car did great. Now I need to wash the engine. After a big antifreeze leak and the mess it is filthy. That will have to wait. I guess the boss is gonna make me do some aerials for the company today. The temp is 95 with a heat index of 107. That will help further flush my sweat glands this afternoon.
