My Elky came with just a speedometer, gas gauge and idiot lights. I hated that. I found a total stock gauge layout from a Monte Carlo that was the right color on Ebay. It was just the gauges, and the brackets that hold them. I had to hard wire all the gauges because the circuit board that ran them was selling for a lot back then. Now I have full gauges that work. I ended up having to get the speedometer rebuilt twice now. The first time was to get rid of the idiotic giant orange 55 on the speedometer that pegged out at 85 MPH. It was rebuilt as a 115 MPH gauge and no special marking for 55. That one only lasted 200,000 miles or so and started having issues. I sent it to a expert GM speedometer repair place and they made it perfect. Better than before.

I never could figure out why Porsche did not have a volt gauge in the 911. Mine has one not as part of the Tachometer. It looks stock, but is custom.

Helped a friend put updated gauges in his Z28. That's when I found out is was a tubular frame made to look like a stock Z28. The gauges we update included cylinder head and exhaust manifold temps inside the speedo and tac. He spent a LOT of money making that thing look like a stock car. Even the interior was upholstered to hide the roll cage. Thought it was a bit much, but he did drive a bit crazy once in a while.

When I ran around with him we just did beer drinking and bar hopping. Later I found out he was a drug runner. The glove box was full of police scanners and ham radio.

My ‘75 Z has an ammeter in the dash, but no voltmeter. I don’t think it’s very useful to only know the current draw, or maybe I’m just more comfortable with voltmeters in the dash. Anyway, I’m probably going to replace it with a voltmeter from a 77-78 Z. But that backwards speedo is intriguing. Start out at 180 mph and slow down from there. Better have good brakes!

The shop where I had some work done had a kid that had a1976 Z28 with a blown 454 in it. He wrecked that and put the motor in a mid 90s Z28. It was quick but even at 75-80mph he had wheelspin issues with the widest tires he could fit in there. Another kid at the shop had a 1970ish Chevelle with a small block and was trying to make it a 10 second car naturally aspirated.

The brakes that came with the car were fine on most roads but one day coming down to the desert from Julian CA they got hot enough that the pad material melted to the rotors in huge streaks. Ordered some big brakes from Master Power Brakes immediately and Wilwood remote reservoir masters. Made the trip several times after that with no issues. I also think I will run out of rpms with the shorter gearing to make it to 180mph (yeah, rpms, thats the ticket). With the old 2.73 rear end I was at 4400rpm at 145mph and still pulling hard. I can't imagine 180 in that car without a splitter or dive planes/vortex generators. It will cruise comfortably up to about 135. Unless you are 6'6", then the bugs really hurt.

Back in my high school days the one kid in school that always wanted to "run for pink slips" drove a Chevy Nova, the original small body car. I think his was a 1964. He had the biggest tires possible to buy back then on the rear. His dad ran the local engine shop for drag racers. If someone got close to beating him, they just built a higher horse power engine. He never bothered racing me since I had 1960 VW that had 36 HP when new and maybe 26 HP left when I was driving it.

On the last day of school the local radio station was playing Alice Cooper's "Schools out for summer" and every kid in the lot had that playing, and cranked up. It was cool to hear and see. The kid in the Nova pulled up to the front door of the school and the large circular driveway and left two patches of wide rubber from the front door to the street. I was real sure the school was not going to blame be for that.

He would have had to spot me 900 to 1000 feet on a 1/4 mile track to make it a fair run.

Friend in HS had crinkle wall slicks on the back and bicycle tires on the front of his 70 camaro. The hood was chained and locked. He only raced for pinks. He also had a 57 chevy with the big slicks and bicycle front wheels that the hood was chained as well. He had quick change rear ends in them both. Gears for driving around and getting good gas mileage, and a set for the 1/4 mile. He could change gears in under 10 minutes on the way to race someone. He had both of the cars all through his JR and SR years.

I did not even try to compete. I had a 1968 Ford Country Squire Station Wagon with the fold up seats in the back that faced each other. It was the party wagon!

We used to have a block buster nearby. I think a company that makes erectile disfunction medications moved in. It's a pharmaceutical company and their name is PPOK. At least I used to think that. Now, thanks to Jim, it could also be a place people are sending their Jars.

So blood letting did have it's purposes.

Maybe back when they cooked all the time in those bit iron pots the doctors coming up with blood letting wasn't so far off.

A lot of people still use iron skillets today.

Back in scouts. we aways took a cast iron dutch oven, an ice cream freezer, a big cooler of ice, and fixins to make peach or cherry cobbler in the dutch oven and serve it with fresh home made ice cream. If camping lasted longer than a weekend, Our scoutmaster always arranged for ice to make ice cream. Everyone looked forward to it.

He was not 'donating' blood... no one else gets that blood.

Have a friend that has hemochromatosis, has to be drained every couple months or so.
