My wife's company changed policy this year and you lose the days if they aren't used. She has a day here and there scheduled for the rest of the year.

When I was working I rarely used all of my days. The last time I had a week off I came back and gave my 2 week's notice.

Mine didn't used to expire like that, but they claim they decided they wanted people to take their vacations so made it start expiring. Think it was really that the HR program they started using got upset over collecting vacation. Got paid like $12K for the vacation I had stowed away over 33 years.

This January they are going to a new program that doles out the years worth of vacation on Jan 1, but doesn't let you carry any over. Again they are saying it's for our convenience to we don't have to accrue vacation days at the first of the year before we can take it. Think it is just the way a new program HR is using handles vacation.

December I am giving everyone an email account so they can log into the system, request and track their vacation on-line. Going to cost the company $4 a month per employee for that. And so far it it is going to be 100 employees that don't currently have company email.

My wife is helping the college where she is going for her Master Gardner's class. It is Oklahoma State University, so not some little for profit degree mill. When my wife is the email expert thay have problems. They have a couple of Gmail accounts and no idea how to really use it.

On her first day of class they had printed out the web page address and email address onto a piece of paper and cut them up into little strips like a fortune cookie to hand to the students. Really! Every student had to provide a email address to register for the class. Emailing that address never occurred to them. It make me think all those Aggie jokes were maybe more accurate than I thought possible.

They know their plants and plant diseases and insects but computers are foreign to them.

Hank goes absolutely bonkers around my daughter. not happy puppy love but more aggressively.

We've told the kids to push him down when he jumps but with her it makes him get more crazy.

Any ideas on why?

I thought maybe because she's female but he will not do this to my wife. He loves snuggling with her.

He does not understand the pack yet. He is seeing himself as higher ranking than your daughter. You need to be 100% the alpha, and make him submit to your daughter. Make sure he understands you rank your daughter above him. Have her feed him. Make him submit and have her take the food away from him. She need to be calm and and assertive with him and have zero apprehension or fear. He is sensing her as not calm and assertive.

Mu second Golden, Camber was an alpha dog. To get her submission I had to finally put her on her back and lay on top of her. Not just a few seconds. Had to stay on top of her until she gave up and quit squirming. And I had to do it several times. Any time she showed any dominance or aggression had to put her down and show her who was boss.

Some dogs are just natural dominate dogs. You for sure need to get that dog to understand he is the bottom of the pack. Very much a part of the pack, but the bottom. He will become very aggressive to any strangers or even guest if he feels it is his job to protect the family because he is alpha.

My MIL had a dachshund that was trying to be an alpha. We were keeping her for a week when the MIL went on a trip. That dog just looked at our very old very much submissive and smaller dachshund and though she could be a bully. I grabbed her, turned her on her back and just stared into her face and eyes and used a very stern voice and explained verbally and with body language that her behavior was not permitted at all. I had to do that twice. After that she was a little aggressive with most guest and strangers in my MILs house but when we came over I made sure she greeted me in the tile floor kitchen because she would pee submissively when she greet me. I was the only person that she did that with. She pretty much ignored our dog as off limits.

Don't think of it as mean like a human child would think. It is a dog's way of the pack. They need to know their place in the pack.

Usually putting the dog on it's back and rubbing it's tummy is submissive as well.

How old/tall is your daughter (and how big is the dog)?

What happens if your daughter kneels down to the level of the dog? I have a Weimaraner who jumps up on me all the time, especially when I first come home. (The dog is almost 5 feet tall when standing on her hind legs.) If I kneel down to pet her, her "aggressiveness" goes away. In her case, she just wants attention.

Make sure the puppy is NOT being aggressive and is instead just playing rough with her as opposed to submissively greeting like you describe her doing for everyone else. The puppy is probably treating the daughter like she is on her same level like another puppy instead of someone to be submissive towards. When a puppy plays to rough with another puppy it stops playing and quits giving the rough puppy any attention. That is why I suggested having the daughter lay on the puppy (holding it down) until puppy completely quits trying to get up. And only letting the puppy back up when it is NOT trying. That is the ultimate "I am the boss of you" in dog.

When a puppy jumps up, you say "no" and raise your knee so the dog runs into it then immediately drop your knee. Learns pretty quick that if it tries to jump up on someone they will run into a knee.

You don't push a dog away with your hands. Hands are for petting, rubbing, and doling out treats NOT discipline devices. If you use your hands to push it away it can be interpreted as "Lets play push away." Kind of like if you try to pull a toy out of the puppies mouth it becomes "tug of war" so you tell them to drop and shove it uncomfortably harder into their mouth. It's the opposite!

My alpha dog would bite. Not in anger but bit and snapped as part of playing. Took forever to get her broke of that. A full year. Ended up having to be like a momma dog grab her and bite her back on her nose to stop that. Only had to bite her twice. I think part of what makes an alpha dog is that they are very stubborn so it took extreme measures to get her to submit.

She is 10 but I think the reason is she hasn't played with him like we have. When he went nutso this morning I put him on his back and held him down, looked into his eyes and told him "NO!". He squirmed like a fish but did settle down. I need to reiterate to her the correct commands, too. She will tell him "STOP!" but I say "NO!". She needs to be more assertive as well. She doesn't have a problem doing that with Jacob.


We didn't have the kids when Mack was a pup so this is new for them.

I've learned different dogs learn differently as well. I am grateful my first dog was inherently submissive and easy to train. Made me want to always have a dog.

Today at the corner store with drive thru the guy was there that really likes her. She said hello right back to him when he said hello. He opened a bag of dog treats to give her one and she started saying "I want it" instead of hello.

Some days she talks better than others.

I took Hank with me to pick up my son from school today and he did well. Once we park I let him sit on my lap and watch the kids walk by.

I'll work with my daughter on being in control when he starts getting aggressive.

We use the knee technique with him and it is starting to be effective.

Our lab recently started jumping up and we tried the knee and stuff. One day I was fooling around and she tried to jump up so I said fine I will pick you up and picked her up in a big bear hug, she does NOT like to be picked up. Now she starts getting a little jumpy I say "I'll pick you up" in a very playful voice and she lays down immediately. I think she is getting the hint. The beagle jumps up, but he stays far enough back to not be close to actually jumping on you most days so the knee doesn't work with him. He likes to be picked up so that doesn't work either. At least he stands on his hind legs 2-3 feet away.

Just set up a serve for our intranet. Now I need someone to design it so I can develop it.

With Dachshunds the knee trick does not work unless you are a midget. My knee is higher than they could jump. They just wiggle a lot and bark upon greeting.
