Coming back from Monterey, CA through the lovely parts of California like Boron and Barstow and the topper, Needles, the temp was 118. The AC on my 911 struggled a bit. I had been driving most of the day and the car was in full sun all that time of course. Going into Kingman, AZ it cooled way off to just over 105. The AC was back to where I had to turn it back down some.

Actually I think Boron, CA is the ugliest, nastiest place I have ever been. 90% of the traffic was heavy trucks, and no sign of anything green at all. Just drown dirt and rocks everywhere. The areas in Utah with no vegetation at all were barren, but they had a natural look to them. Boron is all just man mad ugly with nature helping out to make it ugly.

MT Makes a 235/60/15 in the Sportsman S/T. Tire rack has the 215/65/15 in a bunch of brand name tires if you don't want the wide tire. Those would probably grip better than the BFG slicks you have now.

Sid, Roger Krause has some Hoosiers for you! Was going to get a set for the Cobra until I found out they were good for 5000 miles if you drove nicely. 2000 or less if you were more aggressive.

Right now the 235/60/15s. will rub on the fender liner at the top of the tire under a hard bump.

I really want to go to a slightly smaller diameter tire. The width is fine, the tire is just a tiny bit too big.

The great part about the new 17 inch rims for the 911 is Euromeister did their homework. The width and offset completely fills the fenders, and there is zero rubbing. Well, except the bottom of the tire rubs against the road and scrapes off rubber when going aggressively around corners in a fun manner.

They will do fine.

New slicks put on today and despite the weather supposedly being rain free, it rained. Had to drive with corded slicks and a tire with a puncture (I could hear the air coming out after I inflated it) to the tire shop, then with new slicks on back into the rain. That wasn’t fun. The oils from the manufacturing process added a whole lot of fun on the wet roads. Sliding everywhere.

Had some Dunlop Direzza Red Stsrs or something like that and they were really sticky and had good street/rain tread. They were also the onliest tires I've ever had that actually blistered from getting too hot autocrossing. Would NOT want those for a hot climate.

The main reason I went to 18in wheels on my black 951 was better tire choice. Back when I had the white 951 and 928 GT there were still good tires choices for 16in wheels.
When I got the GTS it had 17s and there weren't any good tire choices anymore so went to 18s on it.

For the 944 the Carrers lightweights are a great 18in wheel...

The previous owner had the front suspension adjusted so low it rubbed cornering at speed. Had to raise it almost a half inch.

When autocrossing usually just got the stickiest street tires according to the tests on tire rack.
Got tired of changing to my slicks just because they were 2 seconds faster. And there were only one or two other cars running slicks anyway.

It looks like I will be going out to the airport and fly a project. Well, I will be in the aircraft but not flying it.

They only opened the airport on Thursday morning after the crash. I hear the NTSB has to get there to do their thing before the wreckage can be moved. I sure the airport wants it gone ASAP. Kinda hard on beginner pilots to see the mangled airplane just off of the runway.

The FAA did not have to come very far, just across town. NTSB is a little further away.

I'm sure that they will take their time about it.

I am not at the moment. Things in life have kept me grounded. It’s up in the air at the moment as to if I’ll resume.

In 2008 they made a people trebuchet in England with people landing in a net like the human cannonball at the circus. One lady bounced out of the net and broke her pelvis. A guy missed the net entirely and died. Not sure just how much safer launching someone off into a lake would be. You pretty much tumble through the air.
