When we had a cat and heared varmint noises opened the door from the house to the garage and pulled down the attic ladder. Never actually saw the cat explore, but know it did because the noises stopped.
Resorted to calling pest control after Mom's cat passed. Pepper does chase everything that moves in the yard. Have also seen her pull snakes and lizards from holes too. Even seen her with one of those things that looks like a 4 or 5 inch long black and yellow stripped wasp looking bugs. She hasn't brought me any birds or varmints yet. Camber brought me one of everything, squirrels, rabbits, snakes, and even a opossum. The opoossum was just playing dead. Quickly brought Camber in and tossed it back out into the back yard. After a couple of minutes it got up an ambled off. Penny was content to just run varmint off her property. She was the smartest she would run after them, once they when into a tree she would just smell around where it had been in the yard. Pepper and Camber chase them across the trees, an down the fence barking at them. The only exception for Penny was we had powerlines going down the alley beside or first home. Penny would go bark, clearing the birds off the power lines. But only in the front yard where the bird poop would get on the cars parked in the street in front of the house.

This was my favorite winter vehicle.
![]() It had a couple of things going for it. The center transfer case and rear dif were locking the front diff was open. That meant one front tire would not spin and steer instead. Kept it from just going down hill in all but the absolute slickest situations. And It did not have ABS. Also the tires were just big enough that it would float thru snow. It would start to sink, then pack enough snow to move forward. Crossed many deep drifts that other 4x4s would just sink up to the frame and have to be dug out. Without ABS could stop on ice quicker than dry pavement. Slam on the brakes locking all four up. Shift it to reverse and floor it while the brakes are locked up. Then release the brakes. Wow it would stop quick spinning the wheels backwards, and usually because of the saw tooth wear on the tire tread it would throw big chunks of ice out in front of he vehicle. Tried that with the Rover and the ABS just let it very slowly decelerate to a stop. Would like to somehow install and ABS on/off switch on the Cayenne. But we haven't had enough icy weather to worry about it. Was driving to the store in my Passat (it did really well on ice and snow) and it was really icey. A suburban went zipping by me on the four lane street. Sure enough when I got the half mile to the intersection that suburban had slammed into another truck. While they both could get going, evidently neither could stop. So, the way I drive in icy conditions is not by how fast I can get going, it how quickly I can stop. Actually all my vehicles did pretty good on ice and snow even the 944 Turbo. The only exception was the 928 GT when I had summer ultra high performance tires on it. Got some all season tires and it did great. Remember on New Years that I follow the sand truck most of the way home.'

When had the front wheel drive Audi went to visit a girlfriend when it was ice/snowy. On the way there was a long incline and it was backed up for 1/2 mile. Just used the grassy side of the road to pass everyone. After all, was headed for the girlfriends. Got to the front and surprise. The first car stuck going up the hill was my girlfriend in her VW Beetle spinning tires.
Stopped next to her, told her to take my Audi and follow me. Drove her beetle from there the 3 miles to her house no problem. Didn't even have any problem staring on the hill where she was stuck. She was also able to drive the Audi without any problems as well. I did take a route that had the least inclines.

Sometimes when it was wet and got cold enough to freeze it would get water into and freeze up the flywheel on the 914. Could push it and pop the clutch. You could hear the ice break, then it would start fine.
Went thru deep enough snow in the Satellite it pulled the muffler loose from the tail pipe. Got rid of those clamp things that held it together and had it welded.

When car shopping for my 2nd car I tried to get one of those midgets and Dad said NO. Then tried a Fiat 124, got a no on that one too.
Then Treasurer where I work now had a nice Monte Carlo with a 400 for sale. Wanted it and he refused to sell it to me. Instead he tried to get me to buy his son's Skylark. The steering was horrible, like every other Buick you could turn the wheel 5 inches and nothing happened. Went to a bunch of car lots with Dad. He said no to 2 Camaros I liked. Finally he let me buy the 2 door Satellite Sebring plus with the 383. Kind of interesting I later bought that Monte Carlo from the guy he sold it to that also worked where I did. Took the 400 out, rebuilt it and put it in my GMC Jimmy. Sold the car sans motor, and the 305 from the Jimmy and made enough money to get back what I spent on the Monte Carlo and pay for the motor rebuilding and hot rod stuff for the Jimmy.

My 914 did great in the snow and ice, as long as the ruts were not too tall, and I did not drag the bottom.
We had a blizzard back in about 1978-1979 with 45 MPH winds and over an inch per hour. My grandmother was stuck at my aunts house, so I was the lucky one to go get her and get her home. My 914 was my only car, so it was the only choice. It took me four hours to go the distance that is normally 20 minutes. My first apartment was a real beauty, $90 per month furnished. It was a total POS garage apartment. The garage downstairs was full of crap so I could not park inside, and of course it was unheated. My water pipes froze. My landlord drove a pickup and was stuck at his house. I had to go to TG&Y, and buy him some snow chains, drive to his house, and then get back home. The ol 914 just putted along in the snow, and at some points I could see the drag marks from the engine mount bolts on the snow between the tire ruts. It took him all day to get o my apartment, and heat up the garage enough to find the frozen pipe, replace it, and thaw the pipes. I went for three days with no water. I had to go outside to scoop up snow to melt to flush the toilet, and brush my teeth with beer. And if I had to open a beer, I was not going to pour it out. This was all in the late 1970s, so before anyone had bottled water. In the end I spent most of the months rent of his chains, and the chains pluse the day of no water was the price of a months rent.

Good Freakin Hump Day Mornin,
David, you can apply for a 10% hazardous duty pay increase for what you get to post here. One winter with deep snow and Ice we piled in the Jimmy 4x4 and spent the day pulling people out of the ditches. If they did not say "Thank you" we asked for $5 to help with gas. One guy got pissed and refused to pay us. We quickly pushed his car back in the ditch, and left with him yelling at us. He didn't even offer to give us a fiver when he realize we were pushing him back in the ditch.

It is still foggy here. All day yesterday was San Fransisco like foggy yesterday. Today is not a day for civil aviation fer sure, but the fog is less. Still well above freezing so it does not matter.
Yesterday the cold front stalled right on top of us. The north part of the state had mid 20s, and the southern part had high 60s. And there are no mountains like in Colorado or California for the difference. I know in some states like Colorado it can be high 90s in the east part of the state where it is flat, and sub zero it 14,000 feet, but that is cheating! We have about 900 feet above sea level in the south around Ardmore and 1,000 feet elevation in Ponca City. Oklahoma City is an average of 1,200 feet.

Slushy ride home last night.
Dad had a Corvair that went just about anywhere in the snow. The Cobra does very poorly in the snow. Just touch the throttle and you are sliding and it has very little clearance so you are dragging in 4" of the white stuff. Our truck does OK even though it is RWD, but it has Blizzaks on it for the winter. One of the first cars I looked at buying was in 1987 and it was a BMW 2002 they were asking $350 for it. It had 300k miles on it at that point and no internet at the time to tell my that I should buy it anyway. Probably would have killed myself anyway. Got a big GT car instead. It did good in the snow, but I had winter tires for that also.

Was offered a trade of my 71 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus hot rod for a Ford GT40. They said they were restoring it and everything was done except for the interior. I turned it down because I thought it was one of those VW kit cars. They didn't start it or let me see the motor. It did have a fresh pait job. All my Dad said was my insurance would be outrageous. I would probably not be alive today if had had gotten a GT40 while still in my teens.
The guys that offered the trade were brothers that had a nice repair shop named Sebring Auto, It was their last name. They were into drag racing, had a mopar 'cuda. Wanted mine because it was quick and had Sebring in the name. I'm sure a big part of why it was so quick is because they worked on it. They didn't offer to trade until I took it in because it broke the motor mount instead of the tires loose. It actually did well in the snow and ice. It did pretty good in deep snow too because of the way those Plymouths front sloped back from the bumper like a boat. I even described it taking off from the hole like a boat. The rear would drop, then it would start rolling as the rear came up and planed off like a boat.

my Mitsub 3000 was that way. If you got on it the butt would drop and the front came up till the air started to move over the car and it would settle in. when the active aero came into play it would lower itself to the ground. Of course it was electronically limited to 149mph. The running joke was that if you pushed it off a cliff when it reached 149 it would open all the doors to keep it from going any faster.

The Cobra has a rod on each side of the bellhousing with heim joints to adjust the preload and one on the drivers sit of the engine on the front so it doesn't break a motor mount or twist the transmission mount (again). I tried a chain but it just stretched the chain and twisted the transmission cross-member. Now it is all triangulated. Made a huge difference in the response as well, but you do feel the engine shake as they are all solid connections.
