One of the many programs I want to get up and running on the new system is the FedEx ship manager. It is nice to just print the label, and drop the package in a box or at the office. No long lines at the busy FedEx office.

One of the steps has me stumped:

Step 4. Insert a blank, formatted 3.5 inch floppy disk into the floppy disk drive.

We do have a USB 3.5 inch floppy in the collection of computer stuff we own, but I am thinking I will use the network or a USB drive as none of my computers have a 3.5 inch floppy.

Hawaii has to be one of the prettiest places ever. Sunset photos always look great with palm trees, ocean and clouds.

Well that was fun!

I installed the FedEx shipping software on my new machine. Downloading it is a breeze. Installing it, not so much. It wants a code number that requires talking to a human at the tech support site. So first wade through the phone menu and finally get a human. Answer all the questions they ask, and they will email the secret code. Enter that, and it will start to install. And it takes a log time as it does many steps and shows a slide show of how happy everyone is that used FedEx. Big smiles on the FedEx employees and customers. Anyone using a computer is on a laptop, and looking serious. The rest of the people are about to break out in laughter.

It is all installed, now I just need a package to ship.

Actually, the pic I posted was just after sunrise looking towards Hilo’s harbor from our Airbnb. We spent all day yesterday at Volcanoes National Park. That was great!

Food here is $$$. And don’t get me started on the invasive coqui frogs.

Sunny and 26* today! Better than they crappy weather Jim has. Or maybe that's backwards.

For the RAID you could always have a NAS to replicate to across a WAN/LAN just to be safe, unless you start getting into a large RAID, then it gets tougher to move that much data across a WAN.

Yea, restaurants are all rather pricey. They know your are gonna eat somewhere.

I was not often up early enough in the morning as a teenager to see a sunrise in Hawaii. I assume they are just like the sunsets, only backwards.

Those frogs were not there when we were. Can't blame them on me!

Our last visit was in 2000. We stayed on the cruise ship at night and did not hear frogs out in the bay.

the frogs have no predators here in HI. They make a loud chirpy sound almost all night long. At least we have earplugs and one of the bedrooms is more isolated from their sounds.

Remember the day Apple rolled out the new iMac with no floppy. The next day floppy manufacturers announced they were not going to manufacture any more..

Have an external USB 3.5 floppy just in case...in a box in the closet somewhere.

Physical Therapist just left. I am bushed and my mid section/core hurts. Seems I can balance better with my right side than my left. Still get tippy after about 25 seconds and that is standing on both feet, yikes.

Wait, there is a 4:30 AM??? I don't believe it, and I don't wanna experience it.

There was a time when the Dell computers the boss bought HAD to have a floppy to load a couple of drivers before loading Windows95. I saved several of the old floppies from old dead computers and would install them in the new computers just to load that driver. Finally when Windows 7 came out those drivers were part of the OS so the floppies were trashed except for one. It was on the shelf and the idiot son that owned the place tossed it and lots of other good stuff.

My business partner flies as co-pilot on King Air and Lear Jets. The king air even as late as 2018 used a 3.5 inch floppy to update the software. The captain of the King Air was clueless on computers. So my business partner dug up an old USB floppy to load the files on it to update the mega million dollar aircraft.

My old 2013 computer had the DVD burner just die, and I never replaced it. We used to burn CDs and DVDs all the time to deliver client projects. Now they are almost all too big, and a thumb drive, of FTP is more practical. I don't think I have burned a DVD in over a year or more.

my laptop has a cd/dvd burner. The dell only has the hard drive.

The mac laptop without a cd is super thin and is called a macbook air.
When they first came out you could access the cd that was on another mac "over the air"

Got 2 apps on my phone that screen the calls coming in. One is from Verizon the other is called Hiya. They both compare the incoming call number to a spammer database. I still get several robo calls a day that hang up after i answer.

Am about ready to have all my calls go to voice mail with a greeting that informs people my calls are being screened for spam and to leave a message and I will call them right back. Or try to use the do not disturb emergency call feature on the phone that basically sends the first call from a number directly to voice mail without ringing, then answers the second call from that number. Could put some sort of notice to call back immediately if you get voice mail in my greeting. Don't know if it will keep blank voice mails from those hang up robo calls though.

I get a few scam calls on my cell phone, but not a ton. Since it is my business line, I answer them all. I can't answer with some BS thing, as I never know if it is a real call or not. If they just start talking I just hang up.

We get 5 or 6 a day on the land line and we might go a week or more before it is a legit call. 100% of thse go to the answering machine. If it is real, they leave a message and we call back. I had someone that was confused yesterday. He left a message that the money he is owed by someone is not right, and his next step is to go to the media, and the radio and social media. He called back again and just left a grunt and hung up. So I blocked his number.

Oh man, they are still waiting on parts to fix the driver's side seat belt recoil.

Remember taking my Porsche in for repair and only had to wait next day. And that was only if they had to order parts. Made fun of a coworker because he broke the gas pedal on his corvette and had to wait 2 weeks for the part.
