I got the yard mowed yesterday, again.

Yesterday evening at around 8:00 PM one of the smoke detectors beeped once. We have one in the kitchen, one in the center of the house and one in our master bedroom. All of them are CO & smoke detectors connected to the alarm system. Finding the one that was beeping was the hard part. I guess the tone it uses is designed to echo off of the walls, and it sounded like it was from the kitchen then the bedroom, and every room we were not in. Our dogs really freak out with that noise. I ended up replacing the batteries in all of them. One used a CR123A Lithium battery, one had three AAA batteries, and one had two AA batteries. I had all of those on hand. This morning the alarm system says it lost connection with the CO monitor part, so I will call the alarm company to come replace it.

I am ready to mow, but we got snow last night again. A few years ago we had trees in full bloom on this weekend. This year, nope.

Glen, don't you love all those safety things that go wrong all the same time?

Yea, the smoke and CO alarms are nice peace of mind. I just feel fortunate they totally screwed up for a change and went off in our normal waking hours. Normally smoke detectors only go off between 2:00 and 3:00 AM.

Vacation, ya suffer. 12 hour days 7 days a week is what the company wants. Of course no one on their deathbed thinks, dang I wished I had worked a few more hours a day in my career.

The boss's wife came in and had me out in the garden doing sprinkler repair. One of the 1/4 rubber hoses for the drip irrigation in the front flowerbed had a hunk cut out of it. I can only guess a mouse or vole chewed on the hose. The good news is is if just a rubber hose, so two connectors and a few inches of hose and it is fixed, in theory. The bad news is is is just 54 degrees right now, so the rubber hose is more like hard plastic and pushing a fitting into position is pretty much only for the Hulk or Superman level of strength.

So I had to grab my heat gun, and an extension cord, and warm up the hose ends. Then it is really easy to shove the fitting into place. So that is done.

One of the great gifts I got her that she did not know she needed until she got it, is a battery operated cutter. Just pull the trigger and the electric motor will cut off a limb 1/2 to 3/4 inch in diameter. She had some stuff to trim and easily can do it without my help now. She even said that is why I got it for her. I told her it was only because I loved her and was trying to make her life easier. She just rolled her eyes.

Wow, so a few thousand miles southwest, then even further east. Lots of airline time. Sound like a fun vacation.

The other day I noticed a small black spot on my windshield of the El Camino. I thought it was a bug, but from the outside I could see it was a rock chip. Frack!

So I went today to a pro to get it "repaired" and it looks a lot better. It is not a black glob now, it looks like a small speck of water and I have to look for it to see it. The shop I went to is close to the hazardous waste disposal site. So I planned ahead and brought 5 gallons of old oil, one can of brake fluid, and two of the CR123A lithium batteries for free disposal.

Getting there was easy, but the on-ramp for the interstate was closed for some road work. So I had to drive through a high traffic area to get on at a different place, and that had construction and narrowed lanes. I managed to get back home after going through several other construction areas. I guess construction season is back in full swing.

We will fly home for about a week before heading East to Spain. So west then east and then more east.

We got a taste of summer yesterday. It broke a record for the hottest ever for April 20th, 93 degrees. Kinda toasty. The house warmed up a bit, but no AC was used.

The rain storms continue to form just to the west of us, or over us, and then move off to the east to dump rain. Eastern OK and Arkansas is getting a lot of rain, and we get just a trace at most. Easter Sunday is supposed to be wet. We will see.

I am dealing with another customer ham strung by his IT department. We prefer to use a Google Earth KMZ file to send to a client to show a box that delineates the area we will capture in the flights. His IT department screams and runs in circles with a KMZ file and will not allow him to load Google Earth on his computer. SO I had to send PDF files. Of course a PDF file could have malware embedded but evidently they are happy with PDF files.

A KMZ file is 1K. The PDF were almost 6 MB total. What is a few MB between email friends.

The PDF files are saved with JPG compression, so a Zip file would just make one file to send instead of three and almost no compression savings.

I was back in the days when I drove to work for someone else that I was dealing with a client that had Mordoc, the preventer of information in their IT department. Even when I sent a file to the IT department they would not open it and put it on the server. She got pissed off enough to drive to McDonald's with her personal laptop, and downloaded the file. Then she used a thumb drive to copy the file to sneak it past IT. It got to the point that she just sent me her personal email address so I could email the files there. Then I had some big files that needed FTP. Only her home email could download them. The entire time the owner of the company was demanding she get her presentation finished ASAP hair on fire, now now now! She was not happy in her job.
