What a fun weekend.

I was allowed to drive the El Camino to Enid to bring back some of the "stuff" from my MIL's house. One old rocker is cool in that it uses two large coiled spring steel in a helical coil as the rocking mechanism. It belonged to my wife's great grandmother.

Then today I got to mow the lawn, and almost had to bail the hay after 12 inches of rain and no way to get out there to mow. That is done.

Caught up a little on the weed-landscape bed battle.

Installed a pain in the butt foot-operated door-stop. The stainless wood screws I bought turned out to be pretty soft so they were getting rounded out . Ended up using an old reliable screw driver. Of course the last one (on top) is the hardest to access since the mechanism partially blocks a path to the hole. All screws are in now. Wife happy - all that matters.

Day P + 4 (when I pick up the Cayman).

Today I will tasked by the mean boss's wife to replace the seals inside both of the sillcocks. That means turn the water off, open one up, and go the the local hardware store to find the correct seals, then return and replace the seals on both of them.

Golly, I love playing plumber.

Paul, I still remember the anticipation on my 74 914 2.0 to arrive. I ordered just what I wanted, and for six months they kept telling me in it will be in "tomorrow" so I called every single day, 277-1700 was the number. It finally arrived on 9/13/1974. For a split second I thought about waiting until 9/14 but it was a beautiful Friday afternoon, and I just went to pick it up. I brought it back on Monday morning with 601 miles on it for the free 600 mile oil change, transmission oil change, and overall inspection on the car.

I have had both the Michelin and the Continentals. Mine are summer performance tires, not all season. Both are very equal. I would have stayed with the Michelins, but the size I need were out of stock, so I went to Continental. Both do great in rain, and on my cross country drives, I always have some rain. I have had them in freezing conditions, and they get rater hard until they warm up some.



I just drive it like it is not a sports car until the tires warm up. For real winter weather, with ice and snow on the ground, yea, you want all season tires.

Jay Leno says that the Michelins always seem to take less weights to balance the tires as they are very round.

Looks like a bit of orange peel on the paint and it has lost its gloss!

We actually got some rain yesterday. The timing of the rain is perfect as we are getting our entryway and driveway pavers resealed today. That process don't like water injection.

No rain, day 2 of waiting for the resealed pavers to dry, and less than 48 hrs until I pick up the Cayman.

We received a 1/4 inch of rain in less than 5 minutes. Then it quit.

My El Camino has been idling rather low, and when the AC compressor kicks on, the engine almost dies. So today I started a 10 minute project to remove the throttle position sensor, whip out the Dremel, and use a long skinny grinding stone to elongate the slot to position the sensor. That allowed it to move to a slightly higher idle. Put it back to together, and I was shocked to see it really was a 10 minute project. That never happens!

I remember that feeling. I bought my 911 back in 1995. Before the internet, so I was looking in the newspaper, all analog! I found a guy selling it in Tulsa, 100 miles away. I had been looking for almost a year, and looked at lots of project cars, and cars that were not loved, and rejected them all.

My wife rode with me in case I wanted to buy it. In her words I was drooling and had stars in my eyes, and I don't deny that. It was just what I was looking for, nice paint, and well maintained. He drove it every day, but he parked it in his garage at home, and at work, he parked in underground parking, assigned parking spots, between two other guys with nice cars so not one door ding. and the interior was not sun damaged, and looked great.

I took it for a test drive, and whipped out my checkbook. My credit union knew I was looking, and they said I bought the car for loan value. I did not want to pull money out of an account that was doing well, so I financed it for 12 months, and a low interest rate. They just turned that check into a loan, and I have not had a car payment in this millennium.

evening all. The doc has called the final review of the ctscan and blood work stable. I'm not losing and I'm not winning. Time will tell. They have other meds to try when the cancer gains the upper hand again.

We have had a string of really pretty spring days. And we are supposed to have no rain for the next 8 or 9 days. I like it!

Morning all. Holding up ok for now. Its one day at a time at this point. The 911 is basically sold now. It will remain in the garage till I'm gone and the wife will finalize the paperwork. I got what I asked for so that is good. I miss driving it but that is a big no no at this point.

The mean ol boss's wife had me outside early to lift the 200 pound (OK, my mom told me a million times not to exaggerate) so the really heavy concrete statue on top of the fountain base so I could plug in the pump. It is on the verge of a limit of my old geezer strength. The hose that goes from the bottom of the statue to the top was full of an ant's nest. They were evicted in the vertical water slide.

There was a large sycamore tree in the neighborhood association green belt that was planted 35 years ago or so. It was large and a pretty tree, but the dummies that planted put it too close to one of the houses. The roots were starting to cause foundation damage on their house. So the association paid to have the tree removed, and stump and roots ground out.

The same homeowner had a Bradford pear tree that they cut down after storm damage. They had the two son in laws do it, and they are as much as a lumberjack as I am. They left a stump 24 inches across and 18 inches tall. I sent them a text and suggested they talk to the guy removing the tree. His equipment is 30 feet from the pear tree stump. They got a good price quote, and it goes as well. They thanked me and the tree guy thanked me.

Then on another block of our neighborhood one block over, home owner had a tree they cut down partially, and the tree guy is doing that one. The tree guy thinks I am a hero as I recommended him to remove the sycamore tree. He is having a busy day. He has his stump grinder, and the tree limb shredder busy.

Welp, the trees are gone, and Mrs. Carrera decided she wanted the ground tree mulch. So it got shoveled up, and then dumped on the compost pile. That was fun!



This is the end of our driveway parking area. You can see the pile of stones that will finally go away soon as she is done with flower bed construction for now. Behind that pile of stones is the compost pile. The barrel is another compost she has going. The tree guys still have one stump to grind up, or is the grind down?

Anyway he asked if he could just leave it here overnight and they will come back today and take it over to the stump that needs to be ground down. Then he will load it on the trailer and it will be all over.

Mrs. Carrera will eventually spread the ground tree stump on the flowerbeds as a mulch.
