The Stick

Grandma had a big yard with huge trees, mostly fescue. She always said she would like to just pave the yard and paint it green.
She would never do that. my Aunt & Uncle lived next door. He had a lawn tractor for his yard. She wouldn't let him mow her's because "she needed the exercise."

That is a big part of why I still mow my yard. I need the physical exercise. It beats the heck out of paying some gym fees. And the fact I am a cheap bastage. I do pay to have it mowed when I am on vacation and out of town. But that is never more than two mowings in a year.

Morning all. Grass is high on my allergy list so I pay to have it mowed otherwise I'll feel like crap for days afterward.

My yard takes 10 minutes to mow & edge. I mow with a human-powered reel mower.

It takes almost that long to make a pass around ours on the lawn tractor. We did look at a couple of those style mowers a while ago though. They cut so nice when they are sharp.
The IT Directors lunch is heating up. Will go snag it when it is done!

I just watched three crows harass and drive away a hawk. Fascinating!

Crows are interesting birds. Smart too.

My yard takes me a full 90 minutes to edge and mow. A full two hours if it is really hot because I stop to rest some when it is brutal hot. I end up walking 2.5 miles and one flight of stairs from the slope in the front yard. It would go a LOT fasted if we did not have so many obstacles like trees and flower beds to mow around.

We can be done with the tractor in 1.5 to 1.75 hours. We don't edge and the kids trim. Jacob around the fruit trees with the battery powered and Em does the rest with the gas one.

Get off my lawn!

My business partner came over this morning to use my lift to change the starter on his 2008 Miata. After looking for the starter for 45 minutes we finally found it. It looks like a near impossible task. They folks on line say it takes hours to get the top bolt loose.
He threw in the towel. Called a local repair shop and he will "let" them do it for a reasonable $500 and that includes a starter. He just took back the one he had bought. On my 911 I have to reach around the transmission and hug the transmission and remove the bolts by feel. No big deal to do. The El Camino starter is right in view. It is giant and weighs about 150 pounds. Well, not really, but it feels that way holding it up in place trying to get the first bolt to start tightening up. I can't imagine trying to do the Macan starter. I doubt that will be an issue.

I can do the starter on the Cobra by opening the hood and reaching down and that one 1.75hp and is big and heavy like your old school GM starter. The Durango is easy also. The other cars I have no idea.
Almost everything is easy on the Cobra.

That is like the El Camino Alternator. It is right there on top. Disconnect the battery, remove the ground wire for the bracket, Loosen one bolt, remove the other, flop the alternator over to get the belt off, remove the big bolt. Slide the alternator up. Swap the bracket from old to new alternator, reverse the steps above, and fire it up. 15 minutes is about average.

The starter is under the headers on the Cobra, it is just easier to reach down from the top. The alternator is two bolts and the hot wire.

At the hold home we had a little over an acre. Bought a riding mower that was a mower and not a garden tractor with a mower attachement (what we had before). It had one 39 inch blade. They told me it spun the blade as fast as it would go without the tips going supersonic. Could mow with the mower in the fastest gear and it looked fantastic. Only took 45 minutes for the whole acre! And we had a bunch of fruit trees too.
Looks like I am going to have to rake a bunch of leafs and limbs to see if I can find my Cayenne keys.

Pretty light wind here on the coast today. Not the best day sailing, but better than any day I ever worked.
Oh yeah, mowed the lawn earlier. It should be good for two weeks, at least.

The weirdest vehicle was that 92 Range Rover. All the different accessories had belts just just went to the accessory next to them. So that meant each accessories belt tension was managed by it pulling on accessory next to it. That meant to pulleys on all but the outside accessories were in tension from more than one direction. But is sure was weird trying to tension belts on that thing.
Oh and the fuses were located in different locations all around the vehicle as opposed to a single fuse panel. Never had to find the starter. Don't remember seeing it. The only reason I sold it was that the heater and a/c blew at the correct temps, but neither had enough air displacement to have any effect on the actual temperatures in the vehicle. Same reason I got rid of the Isuzu Trooper I had.
