Good Monday all.

Jim, I am the same way with nav and would not own a car that has the in car infotainment screen sticking up out of the dash like an afterthought.

Joe, good luck on the Disco.

I had a decent unit in the Cobra for music. I think there would be some wind noise to go hands free. Then again, there is wind noise if I hold the phone to my ear as well. Maybe a lapel mic.

When I do my road trips in the 911 I have a Garman GPS that I use a mounted to a ring around the clock. The GPS is right behind the cruise control stalk. I have it wired to the car, so it is very unobtrusive. More and more states are passing laws about having anything mounted on the dash or on the window in the field of view of traffic.

The Macan has a large central display that runs most of the functions of the car, and the stereo. We did not get the GPS option. Since 99.999% of the driving is done in town. If we need a GPS we just use the Apple Connect, and it throws the display from the phone up on the screen and talks through the car. It is a nice system.

Em has been messing around with some music apps now. I know she has one other song not up there yet and we did an arrangement of carol of the bells/we three kings/God rest ye merry gentlemen a couple years ago in the style of TSO.

Weeeeeeee, fun with computers!

The laptop I use in the airplane gets used 98% for flight. On occasion I use it for other things and the bosses wife has used it when she has some Excel work to do. It never goes to other networks. Just here or my business partners place, or in the airplane.

Last month I noticed it was stuck on a windows update and today I figured I would whip the problem. After poking around on the web, and trying several thinks Microsoft suggested, I was still stuck. So I called Microsoft support. Talking to a human inside of 60 seconds. He took control of the laptop, and cleaned up some old files that were unnecessary, and downloaded the most current version of Win10. It is a 4 GB file and he was happy I have high speed internet.

All in all, it went smoothly. Ta Da.

Got to re-partition my 5TB IoSafe fireproof/waterproof external drive.

Didn't make a big enough partition for 14 nightly email backups. Warned me it was getting low on space.

So now the fireproof/waterproof drive as 3 partitions instead of 4...
weekly bootable mailserver backup.
2 weeks of nightly email backups.
Hourly Time Machine backup (that keeps monthly/yearly backups until out of drive space then dumps oldest.)

So much for making a Time Machine backup for my laptop on the IoSafe fireproof/waterproof drive.

Evening gents... up late trying to fix someone else’s mistake. Had a feeling this was coming and tried to coach the poor guy through it a few times but it was clear he wasn’t getting it. Got the call at 4pm that I was inheriting the project and needed to have a doc ready to go by noon tomorrow...

Nice knowing I’m trusted, but it gets old always being the guy that moves mountains.

For over 25 years at my job in the photolab I was THE one guy the boss knew could fix whatever, and invent a way to make the customer happy. More than a few times a client would come to us, ask for a product that is real easy now with Photoshop, but Photoshop was not invented yet. I would make it work the old hard way. I loved it when we got PhotoSyler and that is what Adobe bought to make into Photoshop. Of course doing photo editing on a 386 with 4 MB of RAM and a 120 MB hard drive is a challenge.

Good Morning,

When I got the new 01 BoxsterS asked about NAV. Was told the official Prosche response was,,,You should know where you are going before you start the car. Heard Prosche had a similar opinion of in-car drink holders, i.e. you should not distract yourself while driving by drinking a beverage. They caved on popular owner opinion on both.

After what it takes to setup a destination in NAV on the 05 Cayenne, feel like that was still the opinion as I would NOT recommend setting a destination unless the vehicle is NOT moving.

The other night I set my home as a destination when sitting in line getting a burger at Whataburger. I arrived at my destination 3 houses south of where my house is located. It had me drive right by my house to get there.

Once home, went thru and deleted the 50 some odd destinations stored by the previous owner. They were at various trip destinations around FL and GA, where I got the vehicle from.

Richard, your GPS navigation system is way out of date. I would not be surprised to find it would cost over a grand to get it updated if it is possible at all. For sure the nav systems are tons better now. For years my Garman GPS was convinced our house was on the other side of the road. I told any friend that was using a GPS to find us, that fact. Most of that is the address errors from the one database source all the nav systems use.

The biggest reason we opted to NOT get the nav system in the Macan, is it needs constant updating. Road change. My phone always has the latest maps. I can use Google maps or Apple maps, either one will display on the dash from my phone. The only problem, ya gotta have a cell signal. That is the advantage a real GPS system has.

The house we went to last Saturday night is not even on a map database yet. THe entire neighborhood is brand new.

Yep. remember when photoslop was only B/W or grayscale. And was happy to have it because almost all of our pictures were printed B/W. Printing color was 4 times more expensive.

Also remember once it was color spending like 20 hours adding a black border to a poster. Today at the same resolution that file would be 8-1/2 x 11 and take mere seconds.

Do remember the reactions on one of my first major editing jobs. Removed a utility pole and wires from in front of a building.

A while back i was in a mood for complaining and said something about how the people in our office are eating at their desks and how wrong that is, and how we should turn an unused space into a kitchen/lunch room.

So now I've been tasked with designing a lunchroom remodel and getting quotes.
You'd think by now I would have learned to keep my yap shut.

Morning all. Hey I eat at my desk. Saves time with having to go back to work every time I heat up my food.

For a couple few years I was the art director for a monthly publication for business, primary and secondary education, and in both English and Spanish. Usually spent the evening of deadline waiting for the editors to finish so I could clean up the layouts. Spent my time editing the photo files adding myself inconspicuously to the photos. It got to be where I looked forward to it (pun intended).

Did the first edit in the main picture in the first issue. It was a B/W photo of Edison and his Pioneers standing in front of a brick factory looking building. I added myself behind them looking out a window of the factory. If it wasn't related to the content I put myself flying planes, driving cars, etc. Also put a relief of my face in tree bark, clouds, and even the Andes mountains on a map. One of my favorites was a picture of a light bulb. The GE logo was at an angle on the top of the bulb. I changed it to RKD. Nobody ever found that one.

It became a "Where is Richard" game with those involved in the publication. But that didn't start until a full year of it being my private joke. I did good because nobody actually noticed until I pointed it out.

There was also a famous quote on every page. Of those quotes there was always a quote by "Mom." Only the editor knew that I was Mom. "Timothy, quit picking on your sister." —Mom. What made them funny was most of the time the Mom quotes had nothing to do with subject of the publication like all of the other quotes did.

One of the big Photoshop editing files was for a big project at Tinker AFB in the mile long building they have. At the center of the building is a large intersection, and they have a huge 8 foot tall 20 foot wide transparency we made. We had to make the light box to illuminate it, and I made the graphic from a composite of over a dozen photos. It was right at a gigabyte image back in the olden days of computers. I remember if I clicked save it took over one hour just to save the file. It took me days to make the image because the computers were just overtaxed. Now I have to cuss at Photoshop because it will open 12 GIG tiff file, and let me edit it, but I can't save it because Photoshop says it is too big. The only format I can save it in it a PNG file! Then I can open it in my mapping software and make a tiff file for the client. PNG is not a standard except web design.

I can open and edit and save a one GB file in seconds.

That’s how I used to do it when I was in the working class. Most days were so full that working while eating was a necessity. Just another memory that I need to repress.

sometimes I close the door to my office during lunch and it automatically locks.
If someone knocks I say CONFERENCE CALL.

that worked for a while until they caught on. Then it started morphing into unscheduled meetings yelling to each other through the door.
That way everyone can enjoy it!

One of my many pet peeves, loud talkers in an office environment. Almost as bad as close-talkers.
