PCA tries to pick a east coat, west coast, central states location, rotation of locations. In July in the USA most of the country is hot. Hershey, PA and Savannah, GA have been the two hottest that I have been to. Monterey, CA was in a class by itself for cold. It is the only parade that I took my jacket to, and wished I had my coat. Jay Peak was really nice, Keystone, CO was nice except our room sucked. French Lick, IN was rainy, but not hot.

The forecast seems to be for some rain all next week. It looks like it is going to rain on my parade. Next year will be rain free, and stupid hot. I guess they are trying to get the Savannah parade of the top of the list as hottest ever.

In the end, California will get to have both the hottest and coldest parade after next year.

Michigan and Chicago were warm, but not bad, Charlotte was comfortable. San Diego was the perfect San Diego weather as always. Fort Worth was hot, but not that bad. Salt Lake City was hot for sure, but we would drive for 30 minutes and be up in the mountains and it was really nice. A North Dakota parade would be great, I need to get to that part of the country.

Dang, I am, reliving the George Carlin routine about "stuff" and amazed how much stuff I need to survive in a fancy hotel as my camp grounds. One laptop, and all the cables for power, hooking in my Canon camera, iPhone and stuff. Of course charging cables and transformers for all of them, and the GPS crap.

Then the tools for minor roadside repair that I really hope just stay packed away. The clothes and shoes and "stuff" I need to survive, and then making a backup of my phone, and data files from my mail computer to my laptop in case I need to write up an invoice, or do some business.

Then finding a way to get it into the car, in a logical manner, and of course we are taking a side trip for an overnight so I need a smaller suitcase to put our reduced pile of stuff to go to the Keys.

It is hard work planning for a vacation! Now is where you feel sorry for me for going on vacation tomorrow.

always pack the tools on top. That way they are in the way when you get to the hotel. If you put them in first you will just get frustrated taking everything else out along side the road...............

The tools are in a bag. I lay the rear seats down, to have a luggage shelf. The tools are in the space between the seat bottom and the flay cargo space. One side is the oil and a funnel, one side is the tools. Of course the standard stuff like tire tools is in the trunk.

Exactly. You will always need what is on the bottom.

Yea, I understand. The tools are in easy reach, just grab the handle of the bag, and pull a little, it will slide out and I have tools. I don't pack a lot of tools. There is no way I can do much more than minor repairs on the side of road. One of my Florida friends gave me the contact info for a local Porsche independent in the area. I have AAA and can get it towed to a shop. So far in all my many trips, and over 75,000 miles of road trips the car has been flawless, and that is my plan for this trip.

I love it when a plan comes together.

THAT is the plan.

My brother and I were laughing about the last road trip we made together. Going back from OKC to Montgomery, after coming to visit my grandparents. I still lived in Montgomery back then. It was about 1976 or 1977 and the gasoline was changed for the vapor point. My 914 had run fine for years, but the new fuel was causing it to vapor lock. I was driving along at 55 MPH in the bad old days, and the engine would just shut down. I could squirt some water on the fuel pump and it would be OK. It was 113 or so in east Texas, and crawling on the 200 degree concrete was not high on my list. It was my brothers turn to squirt the water on the fuel pump and his hand hit part of the heat exchangers. The stock position for the pump was under the battery, in the engine compartment, right where the heat exchangers dumped out the heat that was diverted from going into the cabin.

Anyway, he burned his hand along one side. We got it rolling and stopped at the first place we came to, a Stucky's. We walked up to make a drink order and we both ordered a large drink, he order a Sprite. She handed it to him, and he just shoved his hand into the drink and walked off for me to pay for the drinks. She looked at me and asked "where are y'all from" and I said Montgomery, Alabama. She nodded and then said oh, OK as if that was why he stuck his hand in the drink.

With no AC in the 914 it was a hot trip. At another place in the trip I had a sudden flat tire in the rear. The tube had ripped, and it was instant flat. The spare is in the rear trunk. The rear trunk had 4 cases of Coors beer in it that I would bootleg back to Alabama and sell for a nice profit. So we unload all the beer, jack up the can change the tire, and put the flat in the trunk, and all the beer, and just as I lowered the trunk, a state trooper rolled up. He asked if we had a problem and I was covered in sweat, and said, no sir, I just had a flat and I just got it fixed and was about to leave. 30 seconds earlier he would see the beer, and then investigate the two more cases in the front and we would be in jail for bootlegging.

After I got back, I moved the fuel pump to the front, and it never vapor locked again.

Hmmm, my 914 the spare was in the bottom of the front trunk under a cover that made the front trunk floor flat.
On trips I would leave the cover out so i could stuff more in the front trunk. Just had to leave enough space in the top of the rear trunk to put the targa top!

Msde the comment to my brother that i found another Cayenne turbo at a dealer I could probsbly if they total this one. He said, "Great, just what you need, 3 Porsches." Told him the whole premis of them totaling it is that I would no longer have the one they totaled and would have to get something else.

Says those Porsches are too expensive. Not saying they are cheap but I've spent less on the Cayenne Turbo even with the repairs that he's spent on his Escape. And his Escape has been in the shop just as much. And Porsches don't pinch my siatic nerves and make my butt and legs hurt. Don't think he believes my nerve problem. Even when I was driving every brand and style of car and every kind of office chair and recliner I could find while the nerves were irritated. He said behind my back I was just looking for an excuse to drive a Porsche.

Despite what he says would work, already tried sitting on pillows, looked into exchanging seats, and even having a seat completely re-upholstered with custom padding to fit better. Was cheaper to just sell the car and get something that fits right to start with.

The spare is in the front, which had beer on top. The Jack is in the rear, and beer was in the way. Not much room in a 914 with 6 cases of beer. We had to move stuff around.

You should’ve had a luggage rack to load a few more cases onto.

Think back then they got upset if you crossed state lines with certain brands of beer.
