Get off my lawn!
|
Our female is a long haired dachshund and does not care much about the cold. She does not like to get her feet wet, so if it is raining my wife will just pick her up and put her down in the grass. Then she do what needs to be done, and head back to the dry sidewalk.

David, it is our beagle that walked out yesterday morning, did his stuff and then bayed to get out of the cold. Our lab did the normal teen "do I have to get up now" thing and walked out. Her head perked up and tail was going after she got out. She loves snow. My wife said she was hitting the beagle with her paw and biting at him to get him to go play in the snow with her.

As a kid growing up we had a English Bulldog that was born in Hawaii. We bought him when we lived there. His name was Igor. When we flew back from Hawaii on a commercial flight, we had the economy seats in the back. The cargo hold was full, so he rode in his crate, up in the cockpit. They fed him leftovers from the first class meals. We moved to Montgomery, AL.
The crappier and colder the weather the more he liked it. If it was sleeting and miserable he wanted to go for a walk.

Dad had an English Bulldog growing up. It always wanted to get on the couch but would run and jump too soon and face plant into the front of the couch instead. Dad said it never did learn.

My parents raised my brother and I, and many litters of English Bulldogs. Igor was the best of them all. When Igor was still less than a year old and we lived in Hawaii, Mike, my brother and I came downstairs and I asked what was for breakfast. Mom said "fix your own breakfast" in a dismissive tone. Seconds later Igor walked in the kitchen and mom leaned over and started baby talking to him and asked if he want a egg with his breakfast. Igor always answered with two barks. Mike I and I both got on the floor and started barking. She got the point and fixed us breakfast as, after feeding the dog. Mike and I often brought up how horribly mistreated we were at family gatherings.

I spent the morning at the beach today. Seems that the camel toe is a fashion accessory this summer. Some were good, others not so

My business partner is back in Florida on a project. He said he might be able to get used to winter when it is 78 degrees, and watching the local bikini show on the beach, and shorts and flip flops for his attire in late October. He is there for a client that is paying all expenses, so instead of a motel, they let him stay at a building they own. His "apartment" is on the third floor of a commercial building, right on the beach. If he needs to drive somewhere they let him use their spare car, a Panamara. That saves them money and my business partner figured he could put up with staying at the beach and driving a Porsche for a while as a single guy forced to live at the beach.
![]() We had our first real freeze last night. That will end the growing season, and means one more mowing to get a even grass level, and I can put the mowing equipment in storage mode.

Morning all. I to wish to retire someplace warm just not to hot.
Must be a real stressful time driving a Porsche and living on the beach. How did you not take this high stress project Glen?

I am not a pilot, he is.
I figure it is payback for him flying for 12 hours to Central Illinois middle of nowhere spending the night in a cheap motel, and 12 hours flying back. Or any of the flights in the 100+ degree heat.

And by everyone I mean millions and millions and millions of people. I live in a place that's warm but not too hot, and I'm considering moving to an oven just to get away from the all peoples. |

Good point
It's only an oven from about June to September, after that it's nice. if you don't mind wind. And that's another problem. A lot of the world has wind most of the time. And I hate the wind. but in Socal we rarely get more than a slight breeze unless the Santa Anas are blowing, and that's only a couple weeks a year. I'm gonna hafta adjust. |

I really hate firestorms, and no electricity, mudslides, and killer earthquakes and high taxes. No bugs would be really nice. Nice weather would be nice. California has some really great places along the coast. And a whole lot of not so nice and a lot of crappy places to live away from the coast. I prefer to live in a nice neighborhood in an almost 3,000 square ft house with a oversize three car garage, and own three paid for cars parked in the garage of the paid for house, and have the money to go on fun trips. I really love driving for miles and very little traffic. I can't even imagine commuting to work in California and fighting that traffic every day. Many people believe we have tornadoes just pop up out of nowhere. That is as realistic as what the media is showing for the fires and power problems for California right now.

My father's family was from south east New mexico. Flat prairies and it was windy there.
Every time i went to visit it was windy. Hot and windy, or cold and windy, but always windy. I had a lucrative chance to relocate there in the mid 80's but I turned it down because it was windy. Spoiled I know. But at least the wind was all in one direction, they didn't have them circle winds like some other places I won't mention

Yep, last year a lot of countryside burned up. Mostly cedar trees and pasture land. Only a few house and some cattle killed. Every state and place on the planet has catastrophes. We are 100% immune from a tsunami! Hurricanes are often welcome. They are just thunderstorms by the time Baja Oklahoma has buffered them into heavy rain for us.

I laughed out loud when I went to Alabama once. It was late fall. The leaves were off the trees. Homeowners just raked the leaves into huge pile in the front yard. The city comes along and uses giant vacuum cleaners to suck up the leaves, and grind them and fill up a truck. That would not work here. The pile of leaves would blow away before the city could get here. I think only Texas is ahead of Oklahoma in wind power now and they are a lot bigger state in area. There are new windfarms going up all over the place. Huge areas.
