About 20 years ago my wife was on her way to Enid to visit her mom and she hit a skunk and had a great luck of getting the stink on the car. Her mom was going to drive her car and had pulled it outside already and was ready for my wife to park her car in the garage, and was waving my wife to park in inside. My wife just parked in the driveway out of the way. Finally when her mom came over and started to tell her to park inside she understood why she parked outside and all was well. It rained that day and with the water on the road it washed most of the stink off. She parked outside for a week and it dissipated.

My wife had said she always wanted to see a live armadillo and on one trip to Enid we did, On the way back home in the same area I smacked an armadillo with the frame of the El Camino. Zero damage to the Elky, but the dillio went from 0 to 65 in a few milliseconds with a large hunk of steel. Not good on the armadillio.

Somewhere way back in this thread Rick has a great story of hitting a deer and getting his truck, Peggy covered in blood and guts. Some guy was have a problem with Rick and they pulled over to "discuss it" when the guy saw the very tall Rick exit the truck covered in blood, he jumped in his car and left.

Not to make this thread PARFy, but now that the election is over and we will have a new President next year, why are there still so many stories about our current one or the election? Is there no other news going on in our world?

The press only had negative stories about our current president, even if they have to just make it up. He did nothing right, ever, in the eyes of the press. Our incoming president will do nothing wrong in the eyes of the press. Just like Kennedy and his affairs, or the fact that one Roosevelt could not walk and was wheelchair bound. They hide a thing like that because of the party affiliation.

The Iranian political sphere is very uncertain right now. Economically they're nearly crippled. Pre-COVID, 2/3 of the country was under 35, that's likely higher now. Khamenei has made subtle indications that he may acquiesce to the Trump admin sanctions, but the election (theirs and ours) will play a significant role in that decision.

Somali piracy is nearly non-existent. Eunavfor op atalanta actually works pretty well.

Gulf of guinea piracy is just ridiculous. Those boys have gotten bold. Sometimes, when they run into some homies if mine, that bold turns to cold.

There's your world news update for my AoE

I guess piracy has been around since the first boats sailed the oceans. Like bank robberies, it will never stop. It can be slowed down by just eliminating the pirates when caught. Like cattle rustlers or horse thieves in the old west. Very few repeat offenders once caught.

Hey, it is back to hump day!

Another day of Monterey, CA weather. And they even turned off the wind making machines so no silly winds, just a light breeze.

We had our PCA regional board meeting last night, once again via Zoom. I just use my laptop and it is pretty easy to do. I usually keep the camera and microphone turn off in Windows 10 settings. My new monster computer came with a video camera and microphone that mounts on top of a monitor. I did open that part of the box to look at at, but it is not hooked up. For a meeting we have 6 times per year, I will keep using the laptop.

Morning all. I spent yesterday helping the wife clear wide paths for a walker in her mom's house. My back is now on the fritz and its back to work.

Having used a walked after my hip replacement I can say our house is pretty well set up for it. There is just one short step up in from the garage. The kitchen and dining rooms have a wide opening into the living room and the hall and bedrooms doors are wide enough to easily get through. The main bathroom or guest bathroom is plenty big enough. The toilet in the master bathroom is too tight. The toilet is in a little room that can be closed off for privacy is the spouse is in the main bathroom.

I remember one of my friends houses that was built in the era of sunken living rooms and he had steps up and down all over the house, and it was a two story house. It would suck to be there and on a walker or wheel chair.

Out house has no way in unless you climb a hill to the back door, climb the stairs and walk to the front door or go in through the garage and up a flight of stairs there. Once up, it isn't too bad.

We just went to get the second part of the two part shingles shot. I guess in a few years they will come out with a three part shot and say the two part is not good enough.

We did the high strength flu shot a month ago. No doubt if and when the China flu vaccine is available to regular people we will get that as well.
