Well, I did once set a users screen lock to 10 seconds with a group policy because she would never lock her computer when she left it even though she had been told many times to do so. She got the message after that.

We took our guest to the The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and it is just 5 or 6 miles from our house. My wife and I had not been in 5 or 6 years. They were having the last week of the Prix de West exhibition. A basic artist contest or western art. Some really amazing work. Several pieces I would love to have, only they are 70 grand or more for the ones I like the most.

They still have many other displays, and two of Annie Oakley's guns, and some targets she shot, an amazing collection of real Indian or Native American artifacts. THey have a huge gallery of just guns from the west, and famous guns from western actors. We walked for 1/2 a day and did not see all of the galleries.

It is a really cool place. For many years they were just called the Cowboy Hall of Fame, and that does not represent their collection. They changed the name to The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum partly to have the word museum in the name, and to get accredited as a real museum. That way they can display stuff on loan from the Library of Congress or the Smithsonian. Some of the authentic Civil war and frontier Army uniforms, guns and equipment are just real interesting history.

Phew it is nice to have company, and nicer when they leave. It is so quiet here now.

They are a great couple, the wife is one of the ladies that NEVER shuts up. Silence is not allowed around her. They left yesterday morning after breakfast. We enjoyed the company, and the dogs really loved it. Both dogs received a lot of extra rubbing and touching and stroking and lap time.

We had company planned for the weekend.
They arrived but 8 hours later their pet sitter was locked out of the house because the front door lock was stuck in the locked position.
So they headed home to enter the house with the garage door opener.
Their 2 dogs were inside and needed dinner and the evening walk.

Saturday morning took them 3.5 hours to get to San Diego from LA but only 2.5 hours to return to LA at 8pm on a Saturday night.

When we were gone we gave our dog sitter a garage door opener, and a key to the house. She parked her car in the garage.

I have a box screwed to the fence post in the back yard behind the storage building. It has a mechanical 4 digit code to arrange some pins to be able to open it. Inside are house keys. In 20 plus years I have opened it every few years to hose the keys down with WD-40 and the pins in the mechanism with high quality oil. Never needed to use the keys however but they are there just in case.

The lady that dog sat for us is also a knitter. My wife invited her over to the Monday afternoon knitter group. We have a glass storm door on the front door so the dogs can see out when the door is open, and still keep the dogs and AC in and the heat and bugs out.

As soon as the dogs saw her they were all excited and happy to see her. They both wanted her to hold them for a while. She got along fine with the other ladies, and will be back on occasion.

She had one trick up her sleeve, she brings treats for the dogs. I only feed them their breakfast and dinner, and they get one "dental chew" with each meal and they think it is part of the meal. My wife gives them a treat right before we go to bed, and on occasion if she is in the laundry room and they are both watching intently.

So they don't get many treats day to day. Trying to keep a dachshund slim and not look like a log on legs is hard.

My old doberman was a self feeder. I just put down two bowls of food and she ate what she wanted and stayed slim and fit. If the food bowls were empty, she would bat them around like a cat with a ball of yarn and a hint for me to fill em up. Usually as soon as I filled them, she would sniff, and maybe eat one kibble, and be happy to know food is available. Our male, Reuben would eat until he popped given a chance.

Our lab was that way eat until he couldn't walk. The Boston might self feed but we have to keep it away from the cat who has digestive issues and would promptly barf it back up.

Our labs were not terribly food driven. Our beagle on the other hand will bay and howl if he does not get his bedtime snack. You would swear he was near death the way he carries on.

Our second lab only cared about two things. Her bed and play time. Even in the cold dead of winter she wanted to sleep in her bottom bunk in the garage.

Our first lab wanted to sleep in the hall between the two kids bedrooms.

Our old beloved bulldog we had as kids (Igor) only cared about three things.

Um, making puppies, food and marking his territory with a squirt of pee. If he could not 5uck it, or eat it, pee on it was his motto. He did not even acknowledge other dogs if they were not a female in heat. He was a top stud dog.

We took him to the vet one time to do artificial insemination on a female that was in another state. The vet brought in a female that was just ending her heat cycle. They was close enough for him to be um, aroused. The vet gave him a hand job, and collected the results to freeze and send to the other state. He suggested I could learn to do that for him. I said hell no, he follows me around enough, he would never leave me alone if I provided that service for him.
