Having fun this morning. The bosses wife had made me go out and "help her" dig up an old rose bush. It had been healthy and beautiful for 20 years or so. It got the rose rosette disease, and started looking really weird. She did use her battery powered cutters to cut off some of the limbs. The rose bush had to go. It had a huge root system, and was a challenge to get out. I had to go get my 4 foot long pry bar, and literally jump and down on the end of it to get it to come out of the ground. I still had to chop off a few large roots. It is all stuffed in the trash bin, and goes to the curb this afternoon for pickup tomorrow.

Then she let me mow the yard, "while I was in the mode" and in yard work clothes. It is too early to drink one or two of the bosses beers as yet, but I will get to that later.

Golly Photoshop is fun!

We have a client that wants their project flown on a specific time and day, when their parking lot is full of customers. As long as it is not just hard rain, we fly it. It was a beautiful day for golf, or going to the lake, lots of pretty big puffy clouds. Those clouds make dark shadows on the ground. We fly under the clouds, and it takes 164 images to cover the area with the proper overlap. The cloud shadows are miking my life hard, as they want a pretty photo to hang on the wall. So I am working on trying to even out the dark shadows of the cloudy areas and not the normal areas.

Normally we just don't fly a project if it is full of cloud shadows. Total solid overcast is OK, but random shadows on the ground in patches are a pain.

Rant over, get back to your normal work day.

David, I hope you did not drive yourself home!

It takes me 5 or 6 hours before my eyes stop the dilation routine. It does suck, but nice to hear that I have no eye problems from an eye surgeon.

We have one more day of SUMMER and tomorrow is the start of fall. And the weather man is watching the calendar, because a cold front is coming and highs of 80 and lows of 50s. Gonna love it.

I need to do an oil change on my 911. I will wait until it is cooler outside so the air conditioner is not needed in the garage.

We had a customer call yesterday afternoon for a small project. We have done work for them in the past.

My business partner was flying out today to Florida, but he stuck around long enough to do the site, and get me the data. The computer ran it in just a few minutes. It is all done, invoiced and ready. Now I need to wait until tomorrow to tell him it is done. I don't want him to think 24 hour service is normal. If he had called today it would be a week before my business partner is back to fly it.

Howdy all.

Ted, the Cobra has no top so I guess that meant is isn't a convertible? They probably don't see it that way so wrist restraints it is.

We love going to Road America for the vintage races. Everything from Can Am to Trans Am to F1 and Indycar. Honestly it is the GT40 that gives me goose bumps from the exhaust sound, but watching the winged wonders come down at 200 plus, practically stop at turn 5 and go up 4 gears over the hill to turn 6 is impressive. Some of the older cars shift once up and then right back down. Been to San Diego Festival of speed a few times when I lived out there.

Today, not quite two weeks into my job I was told I get to lead the Teams Meeting with a big customer today since no one else was available. Oh, joy.

Did I mention they have beer on Fridays, end of day? Too bad I don't like beer.

David, you seem to get those messes pretty often. Maybe you should slack off a bit so they don't know you can get things done with a tight deadline.

Was 92 here Tuesday and 58 today. Weather must have gotten the memo about summer ending. Was a good day for the boy to play football at least. 1 tackle, 1 sack, 1 sack assist and 80% of the rest chasing someone in the backfield. One more year of jr high for him and the real football starts.

We woke up to 55 degrees this morning. The bosses wife is outside digging in her garden. She just happened to swing by a nursery yesterday, and two more plants jumped in her car. One is in a huge pot, so I have no doubt I will be called to dig a huge hole.

The place were the large rose bush was, already has new plants in place. Many of the plants that are supposed to remain 2 feet tall seem to grow to 4 or 5 feet with all the compost and attention. In places it is like a jungle, a very pretty jungle.

Weeeee, fun with computers!

The computer that I used to have here as my home computer for email and general nerd stuff, is just an i7 CPU, and maxed out with 32 gif of RAM. I replaced it with my current monster system.

The old computer was pouting and sobbing as it was not getting used. So I stuck 5 - 9TB hard drives in it, and made it a RAID computer for my business partners office. It got to be up and running 24/7 and happy and well.

Then something weird happened. It decided it did not want to boot anymore. I can only get to the Intel RAID setup screen and it says the hard drives are all happy and ready, but it will not load the BIOS at all. Like a mad wife, it ain't talking and nothing will get it to communicate. Crap.

So some online chatting with Asus and thay said I am SOL unless I just send in the motherboard for them to repair. Not a viable option.

So more online looking, and I ended up on Ebay and bought a new BIOS chip for $14.20 delivered to my door. The real pain will be getting to the BIOS chip. That motherboard is a fan loving covered board and the vast majority of the board is covered in a plastic cover. So likely I will have to pull the memory, CPU and all the connections to remove the cover, then swap in the new BIOS chip, and hope that is the real issue.

Golly computers are fun. Only a 38 TB RAID with a ton of company data on it. Oh well.

Let's see some photos of your Cobra?
Did you have the Cobra in San Diego?
Yeah you'll need wrist restraints and use just your big toe on the gas pedal.
My buddy had a Cobra with big side pipes.
Funny at a stop light the leaves were being stirred, the exhaust was acting like a 4 inch diameter leaf blower.
Another buddy with a lifetime of racing experience built this car but sold it quickly, too light and too much power.

If only RA was close to my location.
SD Festival of speed was a small airport track but I enjoyed it.
It was close but if I had to tow for hours it would of been less appealing.

First year in the 911 was fun chasing this LeMans history 911.
He had a shifting issue on the back straight and I nearly shot off track to avoid him.
It happened again on the next lap and we drag raced straight towards a tire wall.
I thought wow pretty brave in such a valuable car and then I lifted.
That day had terrible front brake shudder you can see in the steering wheel.

Another year we had a wicked start and I cut the first turn and avoided a pile up.

Last year 2016 I had the field by 2 seconds and the second fastest qualifier after a short discussion agreed to put on good show with point by passes till the last lap when I tried to drive away.
My wife was riding in the pace car for the start of the race, fun day.

Ted, my first ever ride on track in a truly fast car was back in the late 1970s at Road Atlanta. A guy named Duncan Powers bought an old used 1974 911 RSR for less than 20 grand. It was just an old used race car back then. I had been running in my 100 HP 914 and having fun, and I asked if I could go on a ride with him. He said hop in, and off we went. As we came to the first turn I was standing on my non existent brake pedal as he was still accelerating, and then we just turned after a slight tap of the brakes. The speed difference from a 911 RSR on race rubber to a 74 912 2.0 street car on Michelin XWS street tires was extreme. And later the values sorta reflected that. I wonder what the RSR is worth today, a bit more than my one 914 would be.

Duncan also had a 906, but no room for passengers.
