Yea, spring warmth seems to bring out those spinning winds.

Well this sucks.
Mega 45 to 60 MPH winds, and a big grass and wildfire just south of us. The power is out, and the internet is down. 74 degrees outside and inside, so no major heat or cold. Hopefully we get power back on soon. And internet.

That was a scary afternoon yesterday.
![]() This is the only road that gets to our house. This is looking south, and the fire was 1.5 miles south, traveling right to left in the photo, or west to east at 50 MPH. The fire was started a couple of miles to the west of us, and traveled due east and fortunately for us, stayed south. Many houses were destroyed. The fire department said every fireman was called to duty and they all were fighting the flames. They called in help from other areas. The did a wonderful job and saved a lot of houses. The winds gusted to 58 MPH and the sand and "stuff" in the air was painful when it hit skin. The dang red cedar trees that pop up like weeds, and are even considered a weed tree is a major issue. The are full of an oil, and the just explode with fire and throw off embers that catch the next one on fire. Property owners are encouraged to remove them, but most never do. No deaths or injuries, but lots of property loss. I was watering the yard that is mostly dormant dry Bermuda when the electricity went out. We lost power and the internet for two hours, it came on for an hour, and then back off for two hours. We need some rain!

First nice day in SoCal for long time. Sunny, mid-70s, minimal wind, and no humidity. Took the little one to AYSO soccer, and he scored a couple goals.

We had another fun autocross yesterday. Nice turnout, and warm temps. It did get a bit breezy about noon, but unlike the F1 cars, my car is not affected much at all by the winds, or I am so skilled as to negate the winds effects.

Morning all. No fires here lots of the rain you need, some hail and in some places snow that didn't stick.

We only got up to 80mph winds so the garden shed and lawn furniture stuck around this time. The motorcycle trailer even stayed outside!

80mph winds? I'd want to come inside as well. Can't really blame the trailer.

74-95 mph winds are a Category 1 hurricane speed winds, so pretty windy there Brent.
65 to 85 is just a wimpy F0 tornado speed. 86-110 is F1 speed. The F5 tornado that hit Moore, OK had 300+ winds, and not much stands up to that. Since the winds were not recorded with a anemometer, and measured with a RADAR system, the F5 winds are considered to be measured winds and don't go in the column as recorded winds like on top of Mt. Washington. It would have to be a very robust anemometer to hold up to a F5 tornado and all the debris blowing around, like 18 wheel semis and houses. The recent high winds here have taken a toll on many older stockade fences in the area. Several people have gaping holes in the back yard fences. We have all metal posts, and properly screwed together fence panels, so no issues here.

Brent I just finished a book titled "The Widow Maker". A short read about the corsair. Seems like it had design issues as well as just being plain hard to fly.

We had a bunch get together and fly as teams in our air combat sim. One of the guys got slow in his and said he was hit and was spinning. I flew by and there was no damage, he just got too slow. A lot of the issues were compromises to make it the baddest thing in the air was my understanding. The fuel tank ahead of the pilot making poor approach visibility and such. |

Many of the fighters were hard to fly. A very maneuverable aircraft can be finicky to fly.
Part of the issue was also very young pilots and big fighter jock egos. They often relied on their talent and did not listen to the instruction as they thought they knew best.

Morning all. Not off to a bad start. Cold but dry. Looks like this weekend I may have an 4 hour drive to Eugene and back. Road tunes!

The client that had the assumed coordinate project has another project for us. We told hem it will cost an extra $200 bucks just because of the assumed coordinate system.
His opus ( Online Positioning User Service) is not working right. He has to re-submit and re-process the GPS data to get valid GPS coordinates, and that can be translated into Oklahoma Stater Plane, South NAD 83 Ft and we will be happy. It is just post processing the data from the GPS. I have no idea what his opus processing issue was, but the extra fee is just a small part of the cost and mostly to motivate him to send data in that fit the planet in a format that everyone else understands. One of the surveyors we work with has some stand along software program to post process GPS data to the on-board camera GPS, and a fixed ground station. That will get him 1/4 CM accuracy to the position and orientation of the camera as it is in the air flying along at 130 MPH.

Or the pain in the butt fee.
He has to submit the data to the processor program and wait 24 hours for the data to be returned. Just a bunch of number and a 1K text file. That is the magic for our program to drive me right to the targets, and then I just tell the program that the center of the big X it in a certain spot, and then all the aerial triangulation can be accurate.
