I find Porsches are pretty useless with the way our economie is running, i've said it before, i'm dumping everything in the house , mortage , guns & ammo. not necessarily in that order.

I have a car, so i can't see any reason to spend 30K on a redundant, guzzling, weekend car..
Let's face it, there are no cheap 911's, only cheap project's requiring much cash input to make em decent.
I cannot rationalize that kind of expense considering i operate from a single income.

Stijn, it all comes down to what you want to do with your disposable income. Putting into the house is always good. It is nice to OWN the house where you live. A big pile of guns is just another hobby instead of cars. You can joke about the coming zombie attack but you know that is just the movies. Good quality guns that are kept in good shape can be a decent investment but don't expect to really make money, just like Porsches, just a toy not an investment.

The bottom line, if you want to play with guns not cars that is totally cool since it is your money and time.

Stijn, I think the priorities you're setting make sense, though I don't think the guns & ammo should require a great deal of attention / resources invested. The ROI isn't all that great. Putting money into your house is generally a good thing. Since you already have a daily driver, a second car for fun use is frivolous right now.

You shouldn't be so gloomy...things will slowly improve, even if only at a snail's pace.

Let's face it, a 1911 , ammo, and a Dillon press makes for peanuts compared to a 911 Addiction..
I'm mentioning it as a joke really. My focus is my house.

Disposable income.. I can dispose a lot of income in a variety of ways.
But if my income falls 5 years from now,i don't want to have to regret not having done my best to insure myself for that possibility.

If i spend 10 K a year on a 911, at best i will have a 911 in 2014..
I will not have done much to improve my house, my finances will definately be in a pisspoor state of affairs.

Now if i spend 7 K a year on the house & the mortage, and 3K a year on guns
I will
A have had quite some fun at the range
B not stretch my finances, on the contrary
C be much happier for it.
D be in a much , much better position in life, with more disposable income if my income doesn't change, or with enough margin to take some hardship if my income does change.

Really, a 911 does not make any sense in my position, at all.

These last 3 years i have
Bought the house, with land
Changed all windows to double High effiency glazing
insulated the roof to more then recommended value
placed enough solar panels to kill my electrical bill close to 0

all those things pay off right away.
and they will keep paying off for the next 20-30 years


Next , 10 K on my mortgage, will nett me 5 year & about 24K profit down the line.

No argument, but unless you buy a very expensive 911 it will not cost 10 grand PER YEAR. I keep my car in top shape and I drive it! I don't spend anything remotely like 10K a year on it. An old 911 is 100% toy.

saving 3 years to buy a good 30 K 911
or saving 1 year to buy a project , and then spend 10 k a year to get that project in good shape.

you know as well as i do, that you can't buy a perfect 911 for 3K..

I bought my 911 16 years ago. I paid it off 14 years ago. I have spent money on making the AC work like it should have from the factory & I refurbished the suspension. It costs me 40 cents a day to insure for full coverage with an agreed value. I feel confident I could sell it for what I paid for it 16 years ago. I have had a LOT of fun in it. It got me to work today and through the torrential rain yesterday.

It is a good toy and a useful one as well!

Nope, the only way I would borrow money for a 911 would be a totally pristine 20,000 mile Gulf Blue GT3 for 30 grand or maybe a 993 TurboS for 30 grand. I figure the odds of that happening are the same as winning the lottery, and I don't even buy lottery tickets.
