My cat, even in his old age, will still do that occasionally. Usually in the early evening. It's really weird.

That is part of the problem. I feel that I am fundamentally different from the vast majority of the college population.
no, you're not getting it. i hate all of those things, too. but once you do them, you will realize who you are, and what you want. it will change your outlook in life for the better. consider it a rite of passage.

let me guess....you consider yourself a smart guy. you consider yourself to be better than those who go to bars, drink, smoke, party, etc. you're "above" all of that.

i was exactly like you are. from a young age, all though high school...while my buddies were out doing whatever, i was in my garage every night, restoring my first car. the only girl i thought about was Delilah, from Delilah After Dark...because that was the only radio station that came in out in my shop. Then came college....I was socially awkward, so i directed my energy to hobbies. Mountain biking, building stuff, etc. I hated drinking, and considered those who do it, to be common people. I was better than that....or was I? it took some people to loosen me up. and no, i still didnt like the bar scene, but it forced me to meet people, and understand how they are. would i date a chick a found in a bar? no. would talking to her be a learning experience? sure.

once i left college, and found myself not in a readily social scene...guess where i went back to? devoting all of my time to hobbies. while you think it's fine...deep down in side, those hobbies will only keep you happy for so long. i found myself switching hobbies every month or so. it gets old after a while.

the moral of the story...just don't use your hobbies an excuse. i did, and in some ways, i still do. it sucks.

What does the registration cost out there?

I pay $21.50 per year for each of my cars.

I do wish there were some fun roads close by. All we have is interstate on ramps for curves. Everything else is just straight. We have to go east a ways to get to any fun roads. Arkansas has a few roads that are a 11 on a 1 to 10 scale. One of them was several hours of driving and we did not see one other car. There was not one business to stop at.

It's pretty cheap, Enough that any job should do it. Then there is the cost of fuel and oil and such. Tires eventually. But right now I have zero income. And I have a bit of student loans to pay off, and find a place to live (all after school).

and like Glen and the others said...find hobbies with girls in them. right before i moved out of indy, I took a knitting class and stained glass window building class. As ridiculous as it sounds, the girls were all over me. they A) thought I was hilarious for doing B) thought i had an open mind, and C) appreciated the fact that i was there.

While I try not to express it and I am no psychoanalyst, I will admit that superiority is probably what I feel inside. It helps me cope with the occasional rejection from my peers or encountering some weirdo who heckles me or whatever.

I am not saying that there are not smart people who do the bar thing, but it is not for me. I don't see it as "normal" or any reason why it should be. I don't consider it a rite of passage. I don't think anything good will come of me going to the bar. Talking with those people, perhaps. But not me going to the bar.

My passion for driving the 911 has waned over these past few years. I like the bike better, and designing car stuff but not actually driving so much. Saving fuel. I drive my BMW slower on the freeway and just enjoy the beauty of the drive. Take all the scenery in. Gives me more time to think.

My Mom was an art major before switching to pharmacy to get a real job. She did some stained glass windows. It looks pretty cool. Lots of lead, though. Gotta wear gloves and a face mask when soldering I assume. But the designs are pretty cool. I like drawing though since it is easier to erase if you mess up.

Let's see...boozing, folk dancing, knitting classes, and stained glass window building?

Max, go bicycling, hiking, climbing. Go to concerts at school (hopefully they're cheap or free). If there's art shows, go to them. Go to the farmer's market in town and get something to eat, and sit and watch the people. But don't go to any of these events with your eyeballs bugged out looking for women. Just go and see if you enjoy the events/activities. Force yourself to do a little of this every week. You sound like you need to become more well-rounded, and coincidentally be in places where the opposite sex happens to be. From there, well, sh^t happens.

of course you feel superiority...that's how i felt. and as you get older (and wiser) you will realize that you're really not superior to everybody. just because somebody goes to bar and drinks (or even gets hammered) doesn't necessarily make them a bad person. and you going to the bar, doesn't make you less of person.

that's what was hard for me to grasp. for being a smart guy (like you are too) it was a foreign concept to me.

but being smart also means, knowing lots of things. if you don't know how a beer tastes, how can you say you don't like it? or a gin and tonic...you might think you don't like it, but unless you try it, you'll never know. those are just examples.

I don't know of any concerts on campus. They advertise their weird parties like raves or something but they are not on campus. I like your suggestions, though.

Junipers smell wonderful in the mountains on a misty autumn or spring morning.

I posted links to activities on campus and off campus a page or so back.

Probably your school hosts classical music concerts. Which is cool as the composers really knew how to rock.
