I never said anything about knitting, just that I am not adverse to art. I actually used to love it as a younger child.

I think I could defend an engineering thesis easier than this. This is like a psych thesis.

Nah, trust me, an engineering thesis defense is more like work. This like being hazed by an older brother.

No-o-o, you don't want to rob precious posts from this epic thread. It has to remain the most active thread of all time.

Part of my aversion to bars comes from having a couple branches of the family tree that I am rather close to and which I am not proud of and do not care to discuss further here. Scarred for life? Not really, but scared for life.

OK, I think I am getting a little emotional now. I need to sign off. I have a lab 12-3 and then will be working on the car after picking up my Dean's List certificate from last quarter.

OK, if this is making you emotional, you need to execute the Stijn maneuver, fist to nuts. That'll snap you out of it. Have fun at lab.

I started drinking coffee because of the Porsche club. We started a monthly breakfast years ago. Everyone would be drinking coffee except me. I was drinking soda. I felt out of place so I tried some black coffee. I have never had any coffee except black. I have no interest in the foo foo coffee.

The same sort of thing happened with beer. Everyone was drinking a beer and one was offered to me. I liked it from the first one.

Fortunately cigarettes just made me cough and tasted like an ash tray smelled, bad. I had two and never had another one.

really, when it comes down to it...it's helping your awareness. will you like it? obviously not. but at least you can say you did it. my main point is...don't discount any activity (well, legal activity) under the grounds of "im better than that." you might just meet some interesting people.

funny story:

a few years back, every once in a while. i'd stop at a local bar on the way home from work....mostly, because my apartment was lonely, and it was nice to see people other than co-workers. i generally minded my own business...as i didnt fit into the bar-clique there.

anyway, im sitting at the bar, sipping on a G&T, munching some fries and reading a book. The book was Papillon by Henri Charrière. I'm sitting there, minding my business when this meathead walks up to me and asks "dude, what book are you reading?" thinking to myself "Jebus, this moron probably can't even read...." i reply that "it's Papillon...a french book."

his reply, "oh, i didnt really like the film adaptation, although I question how honest Charriere was with his memoir." i about crapped my pants. This seemingly retarded bar dude actually knew the book and had a valid opinion. We started chatting about other french works; Dumas, Voltaire, etc. Hilarious.
