The Stick

In 1987 I wanted to buy and finance a new Jeep Cherokee. My brother told me it would be cheaper to put what my payment would be in the bank each month then buy a new one when I had saved enough. I looked at the price of the 1982 Jeep Cherokee plus financing and found that If I had started putting the payments in the bank in 1982, at payoff it would still not be enough to purchase a 1987 model. The cost of the current model was more expensive than the cost plus 5 year financing on the older car.

I'm more concerned about the guy doing the internal bits than the guys pulling the motor...assuming they follow the Porsche repair manuals.

Of course some of the same folks buy mega million dollar houses as well. A house usually is a good investment and it goes UP in value. Very few cars go up in value within a few years. My wife does have a 2008 Infinity and I see do see the advantages of a nice modern car. No doubt a new car is nice to have. I will stick to my 30 year old cars and just keep on driving them. Sometime near the end of the year I will reach the point where I personally have driven my Elky 300,000 miles. I have personally put 1/2 the miles that are on my 911 on the odometer.

I'd love to have new/newer cars, but other more important things get in the way. I guess as a car guy, I'm a dud.
After we sell our DC condo, I'll probably jettison the Jetta and get my wife a Volt/Prius/whatever.

![]() Hot, humid and rainy today. Our 911 is for sale, but haven't gotten around to listing it yet. If I ever sold the Cobra, the kids would kill me and my wive would leave me. Maybe not in that order.

$3.58 is just a silly offer.
50 grand is stupid level money. That is close to my price.

I don't know. Seems you have a keeper with good character.

So if 50 grand is stupid level, what is the fair market value.
I ask because the fair market value has gone up enough on the GTS I've had to re-evaluate my stupid level value. Luckily with a fair market value of 70K, my then stupid level of 80K discouraged the potential buyer.

Fair market value for my Carrera is hard to nail down. I have it insured for $30K If someone offered me 30K cash for it I would likely turn it down since I don't really want to sell it. That is unlikely to happen. If they offered me $50K cash it would be sold.
To find another 911 as a replacement that has the upgraded AC, new engine and transmission and refreshed and refurbished suspension and nice leather seats in the right colors would be a challenge if not impossible. To find any other 911 I am willing to drive off on a long road trip would be even harder.

Still working on the ((*&*&^%%$#!!@$%&&*(() Camaro with the smashed spark plug. Got it back together and installed but now we have 2 cylinders with little or no compression?!!! I suggested we push it out back and use it for target practice. My FIL thought differently.
On the SC> the buyer wired the funds today and we are waiting for them to clear. Once that is done, he is sending a transporter to pick it up. It is going to a fellow Pelican but I shant reveal his name until the deal is completed. We are both happy with the amount he is paying for the car. I gathered up my folder of receipts and notes on the car to send with it.

Glen, that's how I feel about the GTS. Only instead of the a/c upgrade it's the unique color. The guy that made the fair market value offer told me if I ever want to sell, he would be happy to pay whatever the fair market price is at the time.
Several 928 aficionados I spoke with agreed that the fair market was $70K, which kind of surprised me. And told me I should set my crazy stupid sales price closer to $100K. Especially since the 928 values seem to be climbing. If the fair market is $30K on a typical very nice Carrera, if you were selling you should be able to get a bit more with your upgrades and recent refreshments.

Evening Y'all,
I had a fellow last year drop 30K, in cash on Lanna's hood. I told him he had about 2 seconds to get his trash off my hood. Original paint commands a price
