Watched a show about Arnold Schwartzenegger. He had 1 year, 5 year, and 10 year plans. Weider the fitness equipment guy said that was one of the reasons he was so successful. Made most of his money from high risk investments well before he made any movies. Said the investments were the type that only 1 in 10 would make money, but would pay out big enough that one would more than pay for the other 9 failing.

Maybe that's why they want pictures 5 years from now.

Man flu? Nah, couldn't be. It sounds more like a Vitamin M* deficiency.

Get well soon, Azzy!

Good Morning.

Thought I was awakened by that danged Sparrow Farting this morning. Looked all around and couldn't find any sparrow. Pretty sure it was just me.

I've got a big weekend planned in front of the idiot box, with F1 and Bathurst on its a full weekend of motorsport. One year I'll get over to Bathurst to watch it live.

Was planning to go to the Austin F1 race. Been exercising to get into shape so I can easily walk the 5 or 6 miles my friend says it takes. And I assume the walking will be brisk. Had a sore pop up on my foot from all the extra activity so now can't do near that much walking so looks like attending the race is off.

Morning all.

We decided the old router was flaking out and wi-fi was real slow with it so we figured no big deal slap a new router in place a roll. We still can't get email to work and some of the VPN services. Golly computers are fun!

Routers and firewalls are the most fun you can have short of playing slip and slide on sandpaper then cooling off in gasoline.

Richard came over and gave us some adult supervision.

We are back up and running. Thanks Richard. Lunch is on me Tuesday.

I am The Man, or The Geek as the case may be.

Routers and Firewalls are NOT that big of a deal if you've been messing with them since 1991 ie 25 years.
At one time I had a poor man's border protocol setup. Border protocol is where if and ISP connection into your servers goes down, the internet fails over to another ISP connection. I ran two name servers, one on each ISP connection. My servers each had IPs on both connections. The names servers were set pointing the their IP for each server with very short Time To Live, TTL. and to not store lookups. If a connection failed the connection to that nameserveralso failed routing all DNS lookups and the resulting traffic to the other ISP. The longest access would not be available was less than 5 minutes. At the time there was a company selling a firewall box that did the same thing for $13,000.

Yup, been at this for almost 24 years. To paraphrase Quigly, I didn't say I didn't know how to set them up, just don't like it.

Though our Sophos unit is a far cry better than the old Cisco in terms of usability and performance. Yes, it does failover. It also blocks everything out of the box.

Back in the early 80s I developed a database for all my model rocket launches to track how things went. On a C-64. Then a wrote a program for some friends that had beef cattle and a feed store so they could track the type of feed to beef production. I did it for free of course. These are the people that brought many pounds of Angus steaks to us as a housewarming gift when we moved back to Wisconsin. Very good natured as well. I once stole her shoe when she was playing the prelude on the organ at church when I was about 14 years old. She told my daughter about that and her shoe came up missing again and I got blamed but then I mentioned that SHE was the one that told my daughter at which point she covered her mouth in mock horror and asked "I brought this on myself didn't I?".

The strangest part of our router problem was we had the VNC working. the internet worked for every site we tried, EXCEPT the mail server. It was like we were just not allowed to have access to that one site only. If much of the internet did not work I would never know. We kinda need our email to operate a business. The best part is at least Pelican was working fine.
