Get off my lawn!

Welp, Pelican comes through.
I put a Want to buy ad in the used parts section yesterday. Bingo, today I get a reply and just bought a cable for $50. It should be here soon.

Morning.
I wish my SC had CC. My right foot would get tired on long highway drives. To remedy that I would take backroads whenever possible. ![]() Our roads need repaving badly but the city has no money for it. The county has done the main trunkline in the past few weeks, right up to the city limits on all 4 fronts. FIL came home yesterday and is doing well.

When recovering from my foot thing drove the 928 to Rolla MO, 400 miles, twice using the cruise control almost exclusively. To speed up or slow down, everything except starting it rolling. Used it as a hand operated throttle. Even with that, the first trip I got home with a bloody foot. Had been driving the Rover around town with my right foot elevated up on the dash and pedaling with my left foot.

With the proper adjustment, it works great. As I have mentioned before for short trips it is superfluous. On long road trips, it is a wonderful helper. It is best when in areas with lots of cops. Set it at a reasonable speed and forget about tickets. I learned long long ago if I just ignore the speedometer and watch the wide open road I end up at 90 and that is that car's happy spot. Only in some roads in Texas is that reasonable to a cop.

Bought a new 87 Jeep Cherokee without cruise control. At the time was making trips from OKC to Atlanta several times a year to visit my brother. A year later I asked the service tech what it would cost to get cruise control and rear window wiper added. He figured it up and said it would be $2000. Walked from the service department to the show room and asked if they had a Cherokee with cruise control and rear wiper they would take an 87 and under $2000 to trade. Drove out in a new 88 Jeep Cherokee Limited that had every option for only $1000. So basically traded cars to get one with cruise control.
Trading the Cayenne for another with the cornering lights is not a precedent for me. However, with the maintenance I'm having to catch up on, may not have been the most economical choice this time. Sunday stopped at Lowes. When I came out was a bit disoriented...couldn't find the dark red cayenne! Almost panicked until saw Pepper hanging out the window.

Oh its adjusted properly. The cable came out of the flimsy pot metal mount and locked the throttle wide open. The cable is now zip tied to the cheap metal bracket and can not come out unless you cut them.

On the 928 5 speed the front of the shifter rod is held in place by a plastic ball cup. When the ball cup eventually disintegrates and lets go the car is stuck in whatever gear it is in when it happens. When replacing most guys put a couple of well placed zip ties around the connection. The zip ties act as a fail-safe so if/when the ball cup fails again the shifter will still operate.
I know, more than you wanted to know about a 928.

When mine died I replaced that cup, the bushings on the shift rod in the tunnel and the shifter coupling. It mad a HUGE difference but the 911 from that era was never known for a wonderful shifter.

I agree with you there. I have replaced all the bushings in the shift rod line and it made things better but not great.

The aftermarket shift coupler makes a big difference. The stock one in new condition has a lot of slop. I think mine is a Wevo or one of the other good ones. It has been too many years since I swapped.

Some say they prefer an automatic transmission in their 928 because shifting in stop n go traffic is too much trouble. Think they should be driving SUVs.

That's where my RDX has it made. It has an automatic tranny but has sport mode and flappy paddle shifters.

I have to admit driving in heavy traffic an automatic is real nice. Since I avoid heavy traffic as much as possible I can handle it.
On the road trip coming into Arlington, Virginia there was some dude having a real bad day. He was pulling a U-Haul trailer and it looks like it started fishtailing and it threw him off the road. The trailer was smashed and the SUV was beat up but I think they were OK.One lane was blocked and all the traffic had to funnel to one lane and 5 MPH so the lookie loos could look at the wreck and they inched by. It took us 45 minutes to get through that and it was move a few feet and stop the entire time. It was a pain to have a 5 speed then, but a million times better than sitting in any minivan with an automatic.

Cayenne Turbo has tiptronic with thumb shifters. AND accelerates just as quickly as any sports car I've driven. Driving around town it is rare I ever use more than 1/4 throttle.
Find neutral really saves the left leg in high traffic stop and go stuff with a manual. Almost every time i drive to Austin i get stuck somewhere, usually in the DFW area going slow and just inching along.

What exactly is a flat iron steak?
Hickory grilled a NY Strip and it was pretty good.
