My grandmother had 2 cats. Her house was next door to my aunt's. Grandma had big porches going half the length of her house and kept shoes just outside her back door for walking over to my Aunt's. Her cats were finding and killing snakes then leaving them in Grandma's shoes.
We had Siamese cats when I was growing up. They passed from old age not too long before my Grandmother did and my Mom took her two cats. One was siamese and the other a big Burmese. The burmese was very very attached to Grandma. It would site next to her on the piano bench when grandma played the piano and sing. When grandma picked him up he would grab her around the neck and hug her. We had both cats at our house for a couple of weeks, then Mom decided they needed to be let out since they were both inside/outside cats. The first time Mom let the burmese out it took off and we never saw it again. The Siamese stuck around and was a good cat. She even put up with me training Penny to pet her. For a while anyway, when the cat had enough it would plant it's paw claws out on the top of Penny's head. Penny would just sit there patiently with her head down and a big grin until the cat took her paw back. Penny would still pet the cat when you asked her to and the cat enjoyed it for a while each time,

Good over the hump day. On that long downhill slide into the weekend.
Someone opened the refrigerator door. It was mid 80s on Tuesday. Yesterday morning was nice, then the cold front got here. It dropped to 49 last night. The goofey thing is the weekend and into next week will see more high 80s.

Mertnin all yall, sure sleeped gooder with temps gettin themselves cooler in the night time.
Figgered it was gonna get cooler cuz they comed out an put a new electronicamical device on that gas meter thang stickin up in the back yard. Guess the battry done went and pooped out on it. They cain't do like the lectric company an run a electriconicamical device an charge you fer the lectricity is uses up to send them how much to charge you fer. Instead the gas company uses an batteryfied thang they kin drive by an see how much gas you done used from their pickup truck. Feel sorry fer them water guys, they still gotta have a guy open the lid in the front yard and peer into that hole to see how much water I been wastin.

Going to be a long weekend. The wife just got word her father has passed. He has been ailing for a long time with COPD and has been at home with hospice care. Now for the juggle of time and plans to attend a funeral.

Sorry for the bad new David. My condolences.
At my old bachelor pad house the gas meter was way out back. It had not been replaced in ages and was pretty rusty. I noticed on fall when I finally turned on the heater my gas bill did not go up at all. The next month was cold and it was still the minimum amount. I went all winter with not much more than the minimum service fee. I was not real upset. Eventually about spring time they sent me a letter saying I should call them to set up a time to have them replace the meter. For some reason I kept forgetting to call. Finally in July they just showed up at my house real early and said they were there to replace the meter. I told them it was OK and I liked my old meter. ![]() They changed it anyway. The summer bill was just the minimum of about 12 bucks a month. The next winter it went up to almost 35 per month. It was a tiny 950 square foot house and gas was real cheap back then. No I have it on an automatic checking account draft. I still have them mail me a paper bill with the big letters DO NOT PAY THIS BILL, and I smile. I love getting a bill I don't have to pay. It is drafted from my account so I do pay it, but I don't have to do anything.

There probably wasn't anything wrong with my meter reader thingy. They probably replaced it because they went to actually read it and my usage went way down since I put the water heater in VAC mode. Noticed my bill has been exactly the same for the last 4 months even though I have turned the water heater way down the last 2. Curious to see what my next bill is, bet they don't give me any credit and blame it on a faulty meter.

One of my friends that was married to the comptroller of a major company. She made good money and he made good money. They lived in a very nice neighborhood. She was VERY tight with their money. She insisted they keep the house AC set for 79 degrees in the summer. He was just sweaty all the time at home. He figured what is good for the goose is good for the gander. They kept the house at 45 degrees in the winter. He said one day he could see his breath in the kitchen. She just moved into the bathroom and virtually lived in there. It was all a matter of seeing who would break first. I told them both the were nucking futz.
One day the gas company came out to replace the gas meter because every other house in the area had gas bills in around a 100 to 200 bucks. Theirs was just the minimum fee. The gas guys came inside and saw how cold it was but they changed the meter anyway. It was the same amount the next month. They finally decided on a compromise temperature in the house.

Friend of mine was living frugally. Thermostat hot in summer and cold in winter. He even went so far as to have his gas shut off during the summer, no hot water either. Right up until he got married. Then the gas got turned back on and she got control of the thermostat. She liked sleeping under blankets so it was 68 at night summer or winter.

Mack 2.0 is coming home with us tonight.
Wifey went to the Humane Society at lunch and now we are getting a black lab puppy. On a brighter note, I ordered a new drum kit right after she told me about said puppy.

You didn't want a puppy or wanted to be part of the choosing process?
Personally I prefer getting an AKC puppy in the 6.5 or 8 wks range. It's getting about time to decide if Pepper is going to have puppies or get fixed. They usually have about 10 and hers would be worth $900 each. Have had 3 people tell me they want a puppy and that doesn't include the sire getting pick of the litter.
